Joss Whedon has signed on to write and direct. The lead part has not been cast. If you want to see what the teaser poster looks like, check out page 11 of the April 3, 2005 TV Guide.

By John A. Lang on Wednesday, March 30, 2005 - 5:42 pm:

If I were to make this movie, I'd have Marina Sirtis as Wonder Woman. She'd look REAL GOOD in that outfit!

By Josh M on Wednesday, March 30, 2005 - 7:29 pm:

I wouldn't mind seeing Lauren Graham.

But I think they're planning on going younger.

By Anonymous on Wednesday, March 30, 2005 - 9:24 pm:

I certainly hope they're going younger than either of those choices. If they aren't going to go with a 20 something, then they'd be just as well off just bringing Linda Carter back.

By Art Vandelay on Thursday, March 31, 2005 - 4:18 am:

I saw in a magazine that Charisma Carpenter (Cordelia from Buffy\Angel) might be up for the role as Joss is now involved.

I think she or Catherine Bell from JAG would be a pretty good physical fit for the part.

By Adam on Thursday, March 31, 2005 - 1:09 pm:

sigh, nobody has suggested Lucy Lawless yet?

By John A. Lang on Thursday, March 31, 2005 - 1:24 pm:

Demi Moore is my second choice

Lucy Lawless is #3

By Anonymous on Saturday, April 02, 2005 - 1:04 am:

I saw in a magazine that Charisma Carpenter (Cordelia from Buffy\Angel) might be up for the role as Joss is now involved.

I read an interview with Joss in some magazine, where he said he wasn't going to cast anyone from Buffy, Angel, Firefly, etc as Wonder Woman, because this is a major motion picture, not a party for his friends.

That said, CC would have been my choice out of every name I've heard thus far.

By Will on Tuesday, April 05, 2005 - 10:08 am:

If Angelina Jolie wasn't such a big star now, and hadn't already been Lara Croft I would have suggested her for the part.

My two picks would be Kate Beckinsale and Eva Mendes (Mendez?). They'd both look super hot in that little WW outfit.

By LUIGI NOVI on Tuesday, April 05, 2005 - 11:47 am:

What I wanna see:

-The battle armor from Kingdom Come. (Was that the first appearance of it?)

-Lynda Carter as Hippolyta.

And yes, Adam, Lucy Lawless was suggested years ago.

By John A. Lang on Tuesday, April 05, 2005 - 12:16 pm:

I second the motion for Lynda Carter as Hippolyta.

Along with Cathy Lee Crosby as an Amazonian Elder

By Anonymous on Wednesday, April 06, 2005 - 11:03 pm:

If Angelina Jolie wasn't such a big star now, and hadn't already been Lara Croft I would have suggested her for the part.

Yuck. Wonder Woman shouldn't have such hideous lips.

By Will on Friday, April 08, 2005 - 10:16 am:

Hideous??? Anonymous, you're probably in the minority; she was rated the sexiest woman recently, lips and all.

How about Carmen Electra, then?

By John A. Lang on Friday, April 08, 2005 - 12:02 pm:

I LOVE Angelina's lips!.....and I'd love them more if they were pressed up against mine! :)

By Deanna Troi on Friday, April 08, 2005 - 3:07 pm:

John! Are you being unfaithful to me?

By Deanna Troi on Friday, April 08, 2005 - 3:07 pm:

Angelina, HANDS OFF! HE'S MINE!!!

By John A. Lang on Friday, April 08, 2005 - 7:40 pm:

LOL! I only wish this "jealousy" were so!

By Anonymous on Friday, April 08, 2005 - 11:09 pm:

How about Carmen Electra, then

Much better!

By John A. Lang on Saturday, April 09, 2005 - 6:44 am:

Yasmine Bleeth....once she cleans up her act.

By Josh M on Saturday, April 09, 2005 - 7:54 pm:

Will: My two picks would be Kate Beckinsale and Eva Mendes (Mendez?). They'd both look super hot in that little WW outfit.

Those would be pretty good. I'd like either of them. I haven't seen many of her movies, but can Beckinsale pull off an Americna accent?

By Will on Sunday, April 10, 2005 - 8:24 am:

Ah, but why would she need to have an American accent? She's an Amazonian princess, and there's no reason Diana needs to sound like an American when she's not Wonder Woman. Anyways, I'm constantly impressed with the way Nicole Kidman hides her own Australian accent, except when she's interviewed.

By R on Sunday, April 10, 2005 - 7:46 pm:

How about Jessica Alba? She can kick high and would be wonderful with that golden rope.

By Will on Monday, April 11, 2005 - 10:24 am:

She would have been good, but I think we'll think of her as Sue Richards now, now that the Fantastic Four is coming out.

By LUIGI NOVI on Monday, April 11, 2005 - 3:36 pm:

I love Jessica, R, but she's way too petite. She'd have to bulk up with muscle, and even then, I think she's a bit short. Remember, Diana is an AMAZON. They're known being kinda tall. :)

By Blue Berry on Monday, April 11, 2005 - 6:13 pm:

She has just, um, matured and the outfit is, um, too tight in places. Any good YOUNG actress with, um, endowment is a good choice.

And whatever reason they use for her leaving the island, defying your mother is a defite teenage trait.

I say a jailbate actress that I feel guilty for turning my head for.

(No suggestions, of course.:))

By MarkN on Monday, April 11, 2005 - 10:43 pm:

How about Jessica Simpson? No, wait. She may have the bod but definitely not the brains, and Wonder Woman/Diana is one very smart lady. Beautiful, too, another aspect Simpson's seriously lacking in. Why? Cuz she's an idiot! Stupid, selfish, spoiled women just aren't attractive, IMO.

Good call on suggesting Cathy Lee Crosby as an Amazonian Elder, btw. The in-joke there, for you young 'uns not in the know, is that she originally played the character in a 1974 TV movie. I never saw it, or can't recall if I ever did, at least.

Catherine Bell a good choice, too, and now that I think of it perhaps one of, if not the perfect actress would be Catherine Zeta-Jones! She's tall, beautiful, blackhaired (or at least dark enough, or else she can always blacken it if necessary), and busty enough and no doubt is in great enough shape for all the physical work she'd no doubt have to do. Even if she may be considered otherwise a bit old to play the part, so what? Hollywood can make anyone look 10, 15 years younger than they really are so that shouldn't be any problem.

By MarkN on Monday, April 11, 2005 - 10:52 pm:

And how could we forget about perhaps the only other actress who'd be a perfect Wonder Woman/Diana Prince: Jennifer Connelly! Sure, she's already been in one super-hero film (and no doubt its inevitable sequel), but she's got the perfect body and looks for this role. Just try telling me you can't picture her in that nice, tight one-piece outfit with the big W on her chestpiece, her beautiful, curly black hair, held back by a headband/tiara, shiny metal bracelets on her forearms and a shiny golden lasso dangling at her hip. Now of course having said that you horndogs won't be able to get that image out of your minds, which means that my work here is done! :) :) :)

By Duke of Earl Grey on Tuesday, April 12, 2005 - 3:50 pm:

Jennifer Connelly as Wonder Woman (growl!) is actually the only idea I've heard so far on this board that I've liked, if I may say so.

By R on Tuesday, April 12, 2005 - 7:37 pm:

sorry I had just gotten back from watching Sin city and jessica was rather freh on my mind. Yeah she would be a rather small amazon but oh well....

Jennifer Connelly Hmmm. Not a bad mental image there. Could be good.

By Anonymous on Tuesday, April 12, 2005 - 11:34 pm:

Personally, I hope they just find some great unknown actress to play the part.

By MarkN on Wednesday, April 13, 2005 - 12:41 am:

I found another possible WW candidate today while searching for pix of her on Google: Kelly Brook. She's British, beautiful, buxom, and built like the proverbial you-know-what, but I dunno at all just how good of an actress she is or would be in that lead role or a smaller one as another Amazonian.

By Will on Wednesday, April 13, 2005 - 10:42 am:

Three more suggestions;

Ali Landry, the Dorito's girl, who also hosted Spy TV.

Or with a black wig, Stacey Keibler or Tori Wilson from the WWE.

By Will on Thursday, April 14, 2005 - 10:24 am:

I'm suprised at myself for forgetting this actress, but I'd also like to see Barbara Mori in the role. Mori is part Uruguayan, part Japanese, and all gorgeous, and the star of a Mexican soap Opera, 'Rubi'. Go to her web-site gallery at www.barbaramori.com and you'll see what I mean.

So to review, here are the Nitpickers selections for Wonder Woman, so far, just in case any film execs are actually reading this;

Marina Sirtis
Lauren Graham
Charism Carpenter
Catherine Bell
Lucy Lawless
Demi Moore
Kate Beckinsale
Eva Mendes
Carmen Electra
Yasmine Bleeth
Jessica Alba
Catherine Zeta-Jones
Jennifer Connelly
(an unknown actress)
Kelly Brock
Ali Landry
Stacey Keibler
Tori Wilson
Barbara Mori

Hmmm...

It's starting to look ALOT like a series / guest cast for John A. Lang's 'Star Trek - Aphrodite' ! :)

By John A. Lang on Thursday, April 14, 2005 - 10:26 am:

YOU PEEKED!

By Anonymous on Friday, April 15, 2005 - 11:18 pm:

Liz Vassey, currently appearing in the doomed 2nd season of Tru Calling, and formerly appearing in the doomed only season of the Tick, could be a good choice.

By John A. Lang on Saturday, April 23, 2005 - 10:00 pm:

Just bought the Season 1 DVD of WW. Here's a list of "Do's" and "don't's" for the movie

DO...the slo-mo spin transformation scene of Diana Prince to Wonder Woman. DON'T do the spin / flash transformation.

DO...have quality music composer. DON'T use any smaltzy jazz music during the Invisible Jet scenes. Even Lynda Carter hated that!

On the same note, DO bring back the Invisible Jet

DO...have use all her "Magic equipment".

DON'T make her so dumb & naive that she walks right into people's traps and gets knocked unconscious with sleeping gas and have her magic belt removed.

DO show "The origin", but don't take too long doing so.

DO bring back the Nazis, they would make a formidable enemy vs. Wonder Woman. But DON'T have them speak with faux German accents.

If possible, DO introduce Cheetah and have her fight against Wonder Woman.

By John A. Lang on Saturday, April 23, 2005 - 10:29 pm:

Before I forget, DO NOT... under ANY circumstances, even upon pain of death bring in "Wonder Girl" (as seen in the 1976 series)

That blabbermouth almost sunk the Amazonian women for good!

By John A. Lang on Saturday, April 23, 2005 - 10:32 pm:

One final note, the reason why they changed the D. Prince to WW transformation from slo-mo to spin / flash is because it was too expensive to do the slo-mo transformation.

WHAT A BUNCH OF CHEAPSKATES! It was so cool!

DO make this a "big budget" movie and bring back the slo-mo transformation

By John A. Lang on Monday, April 25, 2005 - 7:54 am:

Also, DO...make Maj. Steve Trevor useful & self-reliant. In a lot of the TV series episodes, 9 times out of 10, he needed WW's help. There was only a small amount of times where he was able to help himself out of sticky situations. I mean, he didn't become a Major just by pulling the rank out of a cereal box, ya' know!

Also, DO NOT have WW blab to ANYBODY how her accessories work or blab out her secrets (IE: "My Magic Belt is my source of strength when I'm away from home") That's asking for trouble! You know, whenever WW says that, she's practically ASKING to be captured!

By LUIGI NOVI on Monday, April 25, 2005 - 4:12 pm:

I wonder if she'll have the power to fly (under her own power, that is).

By John A. Lang on Monday, April 25, 2005 - 6:03 pm:

Only if she wearing the cape. That'd be cool.

By TomM on Tuesday, April 26, 2005 - 4:08 am:

DO...the slo-mo spin transformation scene of Diana Prince to Wonder Woman. DON'T do the spin / flash transformation.

The spinning costume change was specific to the TV show. It is not likely that it will be repeated in the movie.

...Though, there was a brief period when in the comic book she used her lasso to change -- she spun it like a rodeo star, and passed the loop over her head. As it lowered to the floor, what she was wearing would change. Normally this was indicated by showing the loop around her waist, and she would be wearing her tiara and bustier above the loop and civies below. That would be an effect worth considering.

By John A. Lang on Tuesday, April 26, 2005 - 7:36 am:

Indeed. That'd be cool.

By Anonymous on Wednesday, April 27, 2005 - 10:43 pm:

When I was a little kid watching the show, I always prefered the spin/flash to the slow mo.

The latest casting rumor (that I've heard anyway) has Evangeline Lily (Kate from Lost) being considered for the role.

By R on Thursday, April 28, 2005 - 12:31 pm:

Sweet. She could do it. Sort of an irishish amazon.

By R on Thursday, April 28, 2005 - 12:31 pm:

Sweet. She could do it. Sort of an irishish amazon.

By Josh M on Thursday, April 28, 2005 - 3:51 pm:

That, according to tvguide.com, is just a rumor. The creators haven't begun casting yet.

By R on Thursday, April 28, 2005 - 6:03 pm:

But dreaming of who is in the WW suit and swinging that lasso is fun. :-) And sorry about the double post I am not sure how that happened.

By Anonymous on Saturday, April 30, 2005 - 1:19 am:

Josh, I said it was a rumor right in the post. There was no reason for you to say it again. :)

By Bonehead XL on Saturday, May 07, 2005 - 3:19 pm:

I second Cathrine Zeta-Jones.

I would either do-away with or alter the invisible jet, I mean, if it's invisiable, how can she see it? At the very least, save it for the sequal.

Joss Whendon is a good choice seeing as how he's known for strong female characters. Just hoping he doesn't make it too "witty." I'm also hoping this will be a period piece, simply because they're aren't enough movies now-a-day were Nazis are seen as the bad guys.

By John A. Lang on Tuesday, May 10, 2005 - 12:01 pm:

How about Terry Ferrell?

Now THERE'S an Amazon!

By Adam Bomb on Tuesday, June 21, 2005 - 8:46 am:

A big YES from me for Terry Farrell. IMHO, Catherine Zeta Jones is an awful actress (see Entrapment and Intolerable Cruelty. Better yet, don't waste two hours of your life, that you'll never get back, on the latter.) 'Nuff said about her.

By Zarm Rkeeg on Tuesday, June 21, 2005 - 2:15 pm:

I think we're missing a far more important point, here...

Who's going to play Etta Candy? :-)

By Ryan Whitney on Tuesday, December 27, 2005 - 8:46 pm:

Terry Farrell might have been great a few years ago (during the heydey of "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine"), but she recently turned 42 years old. Even at 42, she might be able to pull off one movie, but my guess is that the producers will want an actress who they can envision doing one or two sequels over the next four to six years, if the opportunity presents itself.

Catherine Zeta-Jones recently turned 36 years old. She's also a bit on the old side for prospective sequels. But beyond that, she doesn't really seem like a movie action hero, despite the occasional exercise in the "Zorro" movies.

My suggestion for casting the part would be to stay away from A-list film and television actresses (or even recognizable B-listers), unless Angelina Jolie, 30, agrees to play the part (the likelihood of which is hurt, I think, by the fact that she's already done two "Tomb Raider" movies). The character is enough of an icon already that if the film is well-made and the actors fit the roles, it doesn't need a big star in the lead role to bring in the big box office receipts. Take "Superman: The Movie" (1978) for example. Name actors were cast in most of the major roles (e.g. Gene Hackman as Lex Luthor, Marlon Brando as Jor El, Glenn Ford as Jonathan Kent, Valerie Perrine as Ms. Tessmocker, Ned Beatty as Otis, and Jackie Cooper as Perry White), but Christopher Reeve (Clark Kent/Superman) and Margot Kidder (Lois Lane) were pretty much unknown to movie audiences prior to the movie. And Christopher Reeve, over the years, came to be regarded as the definitive live-action movie/television Superman.

By Josh M on Thursday, May 04, 2006 - 9:23 am:

And Whedon continues to write.

By LUIGI NOVI on Thursday, May 04, 2006 - 2:42 pm:

Anyone else thinking, given how directors like to work with the same actors that they've good past working relationships with, that Morena Baccarin, who played Inara on Firefly, might be a nice casting choice?

By Josh M on Thursday, May 04, 2006 - 2:49 pm:

I like her, and I think she's a fantastic actress, but I think like many others she's just too short. Not even 5'8" if IMDB is to be believed.

By MarkN on Friday, May 05, 2006 - 12:04 am:

Give her 2-3" heel boots and some good camera angles and I think she'd look tall enough. She's already got just about the most perfect face and figure for the role.

By Brian FitzGerald on Friday, May 05, 2006 - 1:52 pm:

I've heard that Wheadon doesn't want to use any Buffy or Firefly actors for major parts in this because he doesn't want it to look like him and his TV buddies are just playing at making an epic adventure film or some such thing.

By John A. Lang on Monday, August 28, 2006 - 8:05 pm:

Another candidate: Kristin Davis.

By Josh M on Tuesday, August 29, 2006 - 8:33 am:

Looks like we're going to have to change the board title pretty soon.

Maybe they'll go the Kate Bosworth/Lois Lane and get a non-brunette to wear a wig/color her hair.

By LUIGI NOVI on Tuesday, August 29, 2006 - 1:49 pm:

Hmph. Looking at the first post, I'm trying to figure out why I put the year in the first place. Were there other WW theatrical features? That's the only reason I can think of for which I would've specified the year, but I don't know of any.

By Will on Friday, September 15, 2006 - 10:17 am:

If comicbookresources.com is correct then Rachel Bilson will play Wonder Woman, and from the photos I've seen on imdb.com of her I think she's an excellent pick. Very attractive young lady!

By LUIGI NOVI on Friday, September 15, 2006 - 11:51 am:

She's beautiful, but I'd seen WW as someone more statuesque. She's also have to work out ala Linda Hamilton in T2.

By Art Vandelay on Friday, September 15, 2006 - 4:09 pm:

She's only 5'2, bit small I would have thought.

By Josh M on Friday, September 15, 2006 - 4:22 pm:

There's always her audition tape. ;)

By MarkN on Saturday, September 16, 2006 - 1:35 am:

According to IMDB she's close to 5'4" but that's still too short. I'd rather see Morena Baccarin or beautiful, busty British actress Kelly Brook as WW.

By Art Vandelay on Saturday, September 16, 2006 - 4:13 am:

I got my info from www.celebheights.com, good choices btw, although KB's acting skills have a lot to be desired.

By Matt on Saturday, September 16, 2006 - 9:57 pm:

MarkN, sorry, man, and no offense to her, but Kelly Brock's hot days are long over. Time hasn't been kind to her, and she's about 10 years too old for the part anyway.

By MarkN on Saturday, September 16, 2006 - 11:07 pm:

Maybe, Matt, but then they can do wonders with makeup and computer effects these days. Make her look 20 again. But she was just someone I'd thought of last night cuz no one really came to mind, though maybe Catherine Zeta-Jones might also be a good choice since she's already got some action films on her resume, but she might be a bit too old for the part, too.

Well, if it can't be Morena Baccarin, either, then I'd like to see Katherine Heigl in the role. She's tall, beautiful, busty and just needs to dye her hair black and she'd be perfect. Of course, they could also just find a total unknown who, if the movie did well enough, could become a new star almost overnight.

By Art Vandelay on Sunday, September 17, 2006 - 3:27 am:

Are we talking about Kelly Brook or Kelly LeBrock, Kelly Brook is 27, take 10 years from that and she'd be only 17.

By LUIGI NOVI on Sunday, September 17, 2006 - 3:29 am:

Matt, Mark didn't say Kelly Brock (whom I assume you confused with Kelly LeBrock). He said Kelly Brook. He even provided a link to current pictures of the buxom British swimsuit model. If she's ten years too old for the part, does that mean you think WW should be portrayed by a 17-year old? :)

Me, I say Morena Baccarin is the best candidate in terms of looks and acting experience.

By MarkN on Monday, September 18, 2006 - 12:16 am:

Thanks, Luigi. I'd forgotten that I thought of her before and even provided the link above! Man, I hate having a selective memory! Or maybe I should watch less TV while also online since it can be quite a distraction. And yes, Matt, I did mean Kelly Brook, not LeBrock. If they did a WW film 20 years ago then she certainly would've been perfect.

By Gordon Lawyer on Monday, September 18, 2006 - 5:36 am:

I respectfully disagree about Morena Baccarin. I've been watching my Firefly DVDs recently and have noticed that she can sometimes be really wooden. It's all a moot point anyway since, as an earlier poster noted, Joss Whedon will not be casting anybody from one of his shows.

By Will on Monday, September 18, 2006 - 10:16 am:

D'Oh! Whoops, I did it again! My fault for not even knowing who Kelly Brook is!

By MarkN on Monday, September 18, 2006 - 7:19 pm:

Whedon should have Baccarin as WW. She'd be perfect! Well, whoever it is she's gotta be very beautiful, buff and sexy so that men will have an excuse to see an action chick flick with their girlfriends or wives, many of whom just might imagine being WW themselves.

By LUIGI NOVI (Lnovi) on Saturday, February 17, 2007 - 9:30 am:

Whedon's out.

By LUIGI NOVI (Lnovi) on Thursday, March 22, 2007 - 9:05 pm:

The main character is cast?

By Josh M on Friday, March 23, 2007 - 2:34 am:

I'd buy it.

By John A. Lang (Johnalang) on Friday, March 23, 2007 - 4:22 am:

I'd write it. (If they'd let me)

By Ryan Whitney on Tuesday, March 27, 2007 - 7:35 pm:

Re: Cobie Smulders as Wonder Woman

I think this looks like a good choice just from the specs. She'll be 25 years old this year, she's 5 feet 9 inches tall, she's a beautiful brunette, she's known to the public (thanks to "How I Met Your Mother"), and as far as I know, she doesn't bring any negative celebrity baggage with her. Plus, I think the producers could contractually secure her for a 2 to 3 movie deal from the start, without breaking the bank, since she's not yet a huge star.

By steve McKinnon (Steve) on Wednesday, March 28, 2007 - 10:36 am:

They might have to rename her series 'How I Met Your Wonder Woman' in a few years! :-)

By steve McKinnon (Steve) on Saturday, May 12, 2007 - 8:14 pm:

So Whedon is no longer with this project; does that mean that Cobie Smulders is also out, and the project is shelved completely now, or will the studio keep moving towards making this movie?

By John A. Lang (Johnalang) on Sunday, May 13, 2007 - 11:04 am:

Which studio is making this?

By LUIGI NOVI (Lnovi) on Sunday, May 13, 2007 - 12:01 pm:

Check IMDB.

By John A. Lang (Johnalang) on Tuesday, March 03, 2009 - 8:07 pm:

The animated Wonder Woman DVD came out today. There were some NICE scenes in it.

By Josh M (Joshm) on Monday, May 10, 2010 - 11:27 pm:

Won't have a sequel though. Dang it. Though who knows, if the live action movie ever gets made and interest goes up, maybe they'll change their mind.

By steve McKinnon (Steve) on Saturday, January 08, 2011 - 8:36 am:

No tv series in the near future. Once again nobody wants to make a series or movie for this character. Talk about cursed! There goes my hopes of seeing megan Fox as W.W.!

From www.comicbookresources.com ;

"Warner Bros. Television has postponed its planned revival of Wonder Woman after the David E. Kelley project failed to find a home at a network this week, Deadline reports. Sources say it was a matter of “unfortunate timing.”

Announced in October, the modern-day reboot would return the DC Comics character to live-action TV for the first time since 1979, when she was famously portrayed by Lynda Carter. The involvement of Kelley, who created such series as Ally McBeal, The Practice and Picket Fences, seemed to buoy hopes for Wonder Woman, whose proposed movie adaptation has toiled in development hell for a decade.

Last month, however, the Emmy-winning writer and producer revealed he hadn’t “necessarily committed” to the superhero project, and was still “trying to figure out if I can make the franchise work for me.”

But Deadline reports the Emmy Award-winning writer and producer completed a pilot script that was shopped to the networks on Wednesday. Fox and Disney-owned ABC, which is developing series based on Marvel’s Incredible Hulk, Cloak & Dagger and Jessica Jones, passed on the project, while WBTV sibling The CW, home to Smallville and possibly DC’s Raven, couldn’t afford it. Executives at CBS, which picked up the original Wonder Woman after ABC decided not to renew it for a second season, were reportedly split, leaving NBC, which is in a transition stage as it awaits its new president of programming Bob Greenblatt.

The script may make the rounds again, somewhere down the road, but this setback means fans definitely won’t see a live-action Wonder Woman next fall, and probably for some time beyond that."

By Luigi Novi (Luigi_novi) on Saturday, January 08, 2011 - 10:55 am:

Comic Book Resources merely has a link on its main page to the original story on Spinoff Online.

By John A. Lang (Johnalang) on Sunday, January 09, 2011 - 7:11 am:

It will be difficult for any woman to out-do Lynda Carter's performance in any Wonder Woman movie / TV show.

However, if I had my choice, I'd choose Rumer Willis. (Demi Moore's daughter)

By Nove Rockhoomer (Noverockhoomer) on Saturday, January 22, 2011 - 6:49 pm:

Greenblatt is now in charge and NBC decided to pick it up.

By Luigi Novi (Luigi_novi) on Saturday, January 22, 2011 - 9:54 pm:

I'd choose Rumer Willis.
Luigi Novi: Ugh! What quality does she have that makes her appropriate for Wonder Woman? She's hideous, she hasn't distinguished herself as an actress among moviegoers or critics, and she's only in the industry because of nepotism.

Do you really imagine Wonder Woman to have a chin and jawline bigger than Jay Leno's?

By John E. Porteous (Jep) on Sunday, January 23, 2011 - 12:32 am:

Don't hold back, Luigi--tell us what you really think!!!

By Keith Alan Morgan (Kmorgan) on Thursday, February 17, 2011 - 3:38 am:

Actress cast.

"The 27-year-old actress will play corporate executive Diana Themyscira, who fights crime in Los Angeles as Wonder Woman while maintaining a third, secret identity as Diana Prince."

Make. The. Hurting. Stop.

Seriously, what drugs was David E. Kelley abusing to come up with that idea?

By steve McKinnon (Steve) on Friday, February 18, 2011 - 8:19 am:

I'm in agreement with Luigi on this one. Rumor has a very obvious chin, and picking the more experienced Adrianne Palicki is a good move.
We'll see what happens when the costume is unveiled, though.

Liz Hurley will be villain Veronica Cale.

Adrianne Palicki is GORGEOUS!

I hope they bring is Lynda Carter as WW's mom

It'd be a crime if they didn't.

Right! (slaps forehead)

By Luigi Novi (Luigi_novi) on Friday, March 18, 2011 - 3:21 pm:

Palicki in costume.

She looks the part, but god, please tell me that this is a prelim costume, and not the final thing. The story says it'll be a non-campy take on the character. But then why is the entire costume reflective plastic/spandex stuff?

They need to tone it down a bit, like they would if they were adapting it for feature films. I would give the red upper portion of the costume a non-reflective, detailed pattern more evocative of chain mail or warrior's body armor. The gold portions look fake.

As for the blue, same thing. I'm okay with them going for leggings rather than the bathing suit bottom, but I'd make it look more like the leggings a warrior wears in films. Hell, even the multi-pronged skirt thingee that Xena wore would be good for WW, as she has worn a skirt in past incarnations. Make it a dark blue, or maybe dark with metallic blue highlights, or maybe armored stars.

I >>>LOVE<<< the bathing suit bottom!

Have I become a Slider and fallen into a into different universe, or has Sam Beckett quantum leaped into Luigi? :-)
Years ago, Luigi, you were outraged that the Superman costume from 'Superman Returns' was altered, and now you're suggesting a whole list of changes to Wonder Woman, instead of keeping the original? What gives?

By Luigi Novi (Luigi_novi) on Saturday, March 19, 2011 - 8:17 am:

I never expressed any "outrage that the Superman costume was altered".

This is a direct quote from my post on the Superman Returns board in which I first reacted to the costume:

I tend to agree with those who think that the red is a bit too dark, but making the "S" shield an embossed plate is interesting, and I really like the belt, to which the insignia has also been added.

As you can you see, I merely thought the red was too dark. Costume changes, in of themselves, do not "outrage" me, especially when they're an improvement. I'm sure I've stated somewhere in the Superhero Movies boards that, as another example, I far prefer black body armor on Batman to the blue bathing suit bottom over the grey spandex seen in the comics.

By steve McKinnon (Steve) on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 - 9:28 am:

I'm mentioning this because I recently watched 'Superman Returns' again and went back to the Nitcentral entries, so when you mentioned improving Wonder Woman, your past comments about thwe new Superman stuck in my mind.
Here they are.

June 20,'06 "(I’m sorry, I’ve tried giving it time, but I still don’t like that costume. It’s ugly, and it’s not Superman. Period.)"

July 20,'06 - "In my opinion, it’s too dark, and looked awful. I’m not concerned with boots, buckle, gloves or masks."

July 20,'06 - "(Will): Geez, Luigi, the costume is the closest for any movie superhero we've seen in a long time."
"Luigi Novi: Not even close. The Spidey, Batman, and FF costumes were far more faithful to those characters."

Perhaps 'outrage' is the wrong word. It's more like disgust and disappointment.
My point for this thread is just that you seemed to want to keep Superman as he is, but for Wonder Woman it seems okay to alter her in several areas.

By Luigi Novi (Luigi_novi) on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 - 10:05 am:

I don't understand why this is so difficult for you to understand.

Whether I favor a given change to the source material depends on the change in question. If it helps make for a good story or character, or even makes it better than the source material, I'm for it. Otherwise, I'm not. You'll find comments reflective of this in my posts across the various movie boards for Batman, Spider-Man, X-Men, etc, in which I give examples of both.

I can't be certain as to which comments I've made here and which I've made on other sites like Peter David's blog, but in general, I've mentioned, for example, that the Batmobile and costume from Tim Burton's first Batman film were good changes, but that others were not. I've mentioned that the X-Men costumes were a good idea, but how I didn't care for removing the original nationalities of Colossus, Storm and Magneto. I don't have a problem, for the most part, with Spidey's organic webshooters, but when Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark completely removed the burglar that killed Uncle Ben and instead had Ben killed accidentally by a hit-and-run driver that Peter had nothing to do with, that this violated a core aspect of his origin story.

It is not that it's "okay to keep one character as is, but alter another in several areas."

Which areas, after all, would these be? Did you actually read my post?

Hell, even the multi-pronged skirt thingee that Xena wore would be good for WW, as she has worn a skirt in past incarnations. Make it a dark blue, or maybe dark with metallic blue highlights, or maybe armored stars.

Again, she has worn a skirt in past incarnations, y'know, like in her very first appearance. As for dark blue with armored stars, well um, isn't that bathing suit bottom she's worn for most of the past several decades blue with stars? All I was doing was suggesting the material used to adapt that for film to make it more detailed and less cheesy for the big screen. So these aren't really changes.

It'd also be cook to see her in the "eagle" battle armor Alex Ross designed for the Kingdom Come miniseries.

By Keith Alan Morgan (Kmorgan) on Thursday, March 24, 2011 - 1:23 am:

Luigi - Again, she has worn a skirt in past incarnations, y'know, like in her very first appearance.

Actually if you look at the first story it's more likely she was wearing a type of baggy shorts called (I believe) a culotte since the fabric does wrap around inside her legs, unlike a skirt.

However later artists have drawn the Golden Age WW in a skirt.

By Luigi Novi (Luigi_novi) on Thursday, March 24, 2011 - 6:43 am:

And the modern incarnation at times as well. Jim Lee drew her in a skirt during the "For Tomorrow" storyline in Superman.

This makes from both an artistic and storytelling standpoint, because it allows to depict movement during fight scenes more easily, and is fun to draw.

By Luigi Novi (Luigi_novi) on Thursday, March 24, 2011 - 8:17 pm:

Okay, the second image down here is what I'm talking about! THAT would've been a good adaptation of the comics version of the costume!

As for an adaptation featuring a "battle skirt", that would be the first one on the left here.

And for those of you who didn't catch the miniseries Kingdom Come, the eagle armor she wore in the climactic battle scene is scene on the left side here.

By John A. Lang (Johnalang) on Friday, March 25, 2011 - 8:06 pm:

The Battle Skirt is A LOT better than the one they've chosen for the "new version"

By Luigi Novi (Luigi_novi) on Tuesday, March 29, 2011 - 11:08 pm:

Steve, this post of mine from last November on the Green Lantern board provides a more elaborate summary of my thoughts on adaptations that deviate from the source material, with more diverse examples.

By John E. Porteous (Jep) on Tuesday, March 29, 2011 - 11:27 pm:

Excuse me,but before we fight about the outfit there's something else to talk about.

MSN is showing this as being a pilot for an NBC series on Wonder Woman on their Fall TV pilots list(I have it as photo 9 right now).

Are we looking at a movie or a TV series here???

By Luigi Novi (Luigi_novi) on Wednesday, March 30, 2011 - 12:34 am:

Back when I created this board, it seemed it would be a movie. Now it looks like it's going to be a David E. Kelley TV series.

By Luigi Novi (Luigi_novi) on Wednesday, March 30, 2011 - 3:04 pm:

Much as I suspected (and hoped), the costume seen in that photo I linked to March 18 appears to have been a prelim design, because the one seen here is a bit different, and for the better.

For one thing, the texture of the material used for the pants is less reflective/shiny, sot that's a plus. For another, the boots are now red, as they are in the comics, which is a plus. And the center portion of the bustier--that is, the part that covers her abdomen--seems to have more details/wrinkles, which is good.

While I still wish they'd made it look more like the stuff warriors wear, and a less less reflective, and made the metal look more like real metal, this is still an improvement.

STILL WRONG! I wanna see bare-naked legs!

By steve McKinnon (Steve) on Thursday, March 31, 2011 - 11:26 am:

Cute, but she still looks like a WWE Diva.
She's practically a black-haired sister of Beth Phoenix!

By Luigi Novi (Luigi_novi) on Thursday, March 31, 2011 - 6:46 pm:

Wow, it looks like the other fans who didn't like the first revealed costume disliked it for the same reasons I didn't like it.

Also—and this pertains to John Porteous' question above—the above-linked story Wonder Woman may not only feature in the Justice League movie that was announced to be in the works, but she might get the big-screen treatment after that. Won't this conflict with the TV show?

By Luigi Novi (Luigi_novi) on Friday, May 13, 2011 - 4:24 am:

It was not picked up by NBC.

In general, it wasn't a good week for comic book-based properties, as my friend Glenn Hauman said.

In addition to the WW matter, Human Target has been cancelled, and Locke & Key, based on the comic by Joe Hill (Stephen King's son) was also not picked up for TV, even though it's by the guys behind Fringe and the 2009 Star Trek reboot.

By John A. Lang (Johnalang) on Friday, May 13, 2011 - 6:11 pm:

It was not picked up because of that ridiculous costume. Is she were wearing the "Classic" WW outfit...then they'd picked it up. (IMHO...of course)

By Keith Alan Morgan (Kmorgan) on Saturday, May 14, 2011 - 4:19 am:

I think it has more to do with the ridiculous idea of giving her three identities, instead of the classic two, or the Post-Crisis idea of one identity.

By John A. Lang (Johnalang) on Saturday, May 14, 2011 - 9:31 am:

Well..I still think the spandex pants stink. I wanna see bare naked legs!

By steve McKinnon (Steve) on Monday, November 04, 2013 - 11:19 am:

From comicbookresources.com...

Despite Thor: The Dark World making huge bank overseas, the biggest comics-related news this morning may be about a DC character.

In an interview with Total Film, Sif actress Jaimie Alexander dropped a tantalizing hint about another comic-book heroine: Wonder Woman. While talking about the Thor sequel, she mentioned she’s had “discussions with both companies,” meaning DC/Warner Bros. and Marvel.

“I’m a huge fan of Wonder Woman,” Alexander later said. “I really think if this is the closest that we’re ever going to get to Wonder Woman, then I’m proud to play Sif. I hope that other comic book entities can learn a lesson from Marvel in how to execute a female character the way it should be done. I really would like to one day see a Wonder Woman film or Wonder Woman character, but until it’s done with class, I’d rather it not be done.”

If there’s more to this than pure conjecture, it’s possible that Alexander would appear in Batman Vs. Superman, a topic addressed vaguely recently by a Warner Bros. executive.

Alexander also talked about the potential for a Sif film, something she’s greatly in favor of. “I would love for there to be a spinoff film,” she said. “I would absolutely say ‘yes!’ If the fans want it and there’s a strong enough desire for it, it will happen. So, fingers crossed!”

I think Jamie would be perfect-- a beautiful woman that actually likes the character.

By Keith Alan Morgan (Kmorgan) on Tuesday, July 26, 2016 - 8:13 am:

The trailer has a scene where WW asks Etta what a secretary is and she says she goes where he tells her to go and do what he tells her to do and WW says, "Where I come from that's called slavery."

Interesting opinion. Do the Amazons not have a hierarchal command structure, Princess Diana? Do you not have a military with officers giving commands?

What is with setting this in World War I? Afraid of offending Nazis by using World War II?

Of course the real irony is Wonder Woman as a sword-wielding soldier when her creator created her to be the opposite of the violent pulp-inspired comic books that were around in the late '30s, early '40s.

By AWhite (Inblackestnight) on Tuesday, July 26, 2016 - 9:08 am:

I wondered those same things KAM. I believe the WW warrior princess re-imaging began with the New 52, but I'm not sure about that. Can't say that I'm surprised, but I definitely remember her being more diplomatic and just, hence the lasso of truth...

By Keith Alan Morgan (Kmorgan) on Tuesday, July 26, 2016 - 10:24 pm:

I think they started making her a warrior before the New 52. They did have her behead Maxwell Lord in, I think, Infinite Crisis, but I believe they had been making her more of a warrior much earlier.

Out of continuity, but her persona in Kingdom Come was rather warrior-like and there was a planned Xena/Wonder Woman crossover comic back in the '90s.

The lasso only became the lasso of truth under Perez, before that it made people bound with it do what she said to do and go where she said to go. (It was the lasso of secretaries!) ;-)

Gal Gadot makes a very good effort to play her role.

GREAT MOMENTS:

* The look on Wonder Woman's face after she realizes that she killed the wrong guy.

* The look on Wonder Woman's face when the sword crumbles to dust after striking Ares.

IMPROVEMENTS THAT COULD HAVE BEEN ADDED:

* Wonder Woman meeting a young Corporal Hitler in the trenches.

* Cameo by Lynda Carter (You knew I was going to say that...right?)

UNANSWERED QUESTION:

Did Steve Trevor survive the explosion somehow?

I can't imaging continuing the saga without Trevor

IDEA FOR SEQUEL:

World War II

I liked it. My score is similar to Johns. B+ to A-.

The characters were allowed to have fun, and it helped immensely. Gal Gadot and Chris Pine have good chemistry and the motley crew is fun.

Thing I didn't like. They *STILL* are using that darned "sepia overlay" camerawork. Except on Paradise Island, it's still dark everywhere.

My idea for Wonder Woman II:

Set during WWII.

A Nazi scientist woman observes Wonder Woman and decides that she must defeat Wonder Woman so the Reich will survive....so she creates a special potion that turns her into Cheetah.

In round one...Cheetah defeats Wonder Woman...causing her to set aside the tiara "for good".

However, after hearing some little girls talk about how great Wonder Woman is...and hearing the American's people's pleas for help....Diana takes up the tiara again and defeats Cheetah in Round Two.

By Keith Alan Morgan (Kmorgan) on Sunday, December 09, 2018 - 12:07 am:

Finally saw it.

By itself, it was good. As a comic book fan I wondered at the reason for all the pointless changes. ;-)

Anyone notice the Justice League ref on the license of the Wayne car at the beginning? it started with JL and followed by some numbers which I'm not sure if they had a meaning or not.

I didn't see any compelling story reason why this had to be set in WWI. The story would have worked in WWII with few changes.

The Godkiller "gag" was obvious.

In the comics the Amazons worshipped Aphrodite (who created them out of magic clay) and Athena, the goddess of war in a just cause. I don't think either got a mention.

Personally, I prefer the little Amazonium bracelets of submission* to those forearm covering... things.

*Yes, that was their name and submission was to the goddess, not a BDSM thing.

What was with the burst of light? Yes, from a story POV I understand it tied in with a later reveal, but Wonder Woman in the comics has enough powers so screen writers don't need to create new ones.

It would have been tactically better if the Amazons had stayed on the cliff top and just rained arrows down on the Germans. To recover Diana they only needed one or two Amazons to go get her.

The discussion of sleeping together in the boat was completely unnecessary.

Trevor's squad felt like he pulled them out of another movie and they were just there to be redshirts, except that we saw them in the picture at the beginning of the movie so they felt even more pointless.
As far as I know they were not based on any comic characters.

For that matter, could they not squeeze in any Balloon Buster, or Enemy Ace, cameos.
Come on DC! Those were genuine WWI comic characters you had available!!!

I agree with ScottN on the hotel scene. That being said, since they did decide to put it in (no pun intended) why didn't they carry through? Most scenes like this usually show the characters apparently naked kissing or just cutting to the afterglow of both characters in bed. This just had the lead-up, then cut to the next morning. Bwha?

Oh, she's a god... zzzzzzz...
Admittedly this does have some comic precedents. IIRC she was the goddess of truth in the '90s and some recent retcon to her origin did make her the daughter of Zeus (although, frankly it would make more sense to have her father be Hercules as Herc and Hippolyta had a relationship that goes all the way back to Greek myth.)

Steve's death surprised me, and not in a bad way. It worked.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Saturday, December 18, 2021 - 11:05 pm:

This movie took some liberties with General Ludendorff. Namely he did not die in the First World War.

Not only did the real General Erich Ludendorff survive WW1, but he went on to take part in Hitler's failed Beer Hall Putsch in 1923.

Ludendorff died in 1937.
