As this Miyazaki animation is now out on Region 1 DVD, I decided to put this up as a topic...
The plot is of a aviator in Italy, post World War 1, who was turned into a pig-like being, after flying too high & as a result, almost got his soul taken away from him, with the souls of fellow aviators who had recently died in combat...
Add to this Sky Pirates, and the creeping influence of Fascism in 1920's Italy & you have a interesting animation indeed

I liked this movie for the most part (those busybodies at Studio Ghibli really outdid themselves with the dogfights), but this movie has the most annoyingly unsatisfying ending I've seen in a long time. I know vague, open anti-climaxes are rather common in anime, but Porco Rosso practically rubs it's lack of conclusion in our face.

I love the way the schoolgirls run rings around the sky pirates!
