What a shame that so many classic 1969 Dodge Chargers were trashed (over 300, according to IMDB) during production of the totaly inane series. How many classic cars were destroyed during production of the movie? A classic car is a terrible thing to waste.
So, who's seen this and why?
1. Willie Nelson
2. Burt Reynolds
3. Johnny Knoxville
4. Seann William Scott
5. Moonshine
6. The General Lee's jumps
7. Southern hospitality
8. Nostalgia, and/or to angrily compare and contrast it from the TV series
9. The lame jokes
10. Big explosions
Gosh, I really can't think of any other reasons to go see this film. Can you?
I hav enot seen it yet but will do so when it comes to the danberry dollar saver. The reason why is the general lee.
You forgot a few. Jessica Simpson's legs, Jessica Simpson's breasts; the fact that it's the same director as Supper Troopers.
Jessica Simpson's legs, Jessica Simpson's breasts; the fact that it's the same director as Super Troopers.
Those three reasons are basically the reason I've decided to see it after all. And the fact that I won't have to pay for it.
actually i am going to be overlooking those reasons. I didnt like supertroopers or jessica simpson.
I don't like her either, but she does have a nice body. And I thought Supertroopers was great.
I guess she has an okay body. She just doesnt do much for me. Jessica Alba or someone else like her would have definately been a bit better for me. But then again thats why there isnt one movie actress doign everything.
As for supertroopers eh it wasnt hoorrible but it wasnt good either.
They wrecked 325 irreplaceable Dodge Chargers for the TV series, and another 25 or so for this film. A horrendous waste. A classic car is a terrible thing to waste.
Simpson has an "okay" body, but Alba would've been better??????????? Okayyyyyyy.
I dunno I gotta have my mind stimulated as well as the gonads. That and I'm not keen on blondes. Linda Cardennelli or someone like that woulda worked too.
No accounting for taste I know. ;-)
Personally, given that I never watched - and never wanted to watch - the original series, there's no way I have any interest in seeing this film. Which not surprisingly, was the box office champ this past weekend. I never understood the appeal of the TV series and I won't get the appeal of the movie. But that's just me.
"I like to watch." - Chance the Gardener
Well, I was a kid when I watched it on TV, and I remember liking it when I watched it, so maybe it was for people like me. And yeah, Linda Cardellini is pretty, but I'm not sure if she's right for Daisy. I'm also not sure how Alba, as much as I like her, would stimulate someone's "mind" more than Simpson, but hey, to each his own.
The Dukes of Hazzard series was such a classic, why remake it. CMT has gotten its highest ratings ever showing 'Dukes' reruns. The series was a wholesome family treat. The original Daisy was playful, but never a tease such as Simpson's portrayal. Cooter (Ben Jones) is right. The new version is too raunchy. Burt Reynold's face-lifted and botoxed Boss Hog just doesn't feel right either.
I generally watched the old series for four reasons: Catherine Bach's Daisy, the General Lee , the chases/jumps, and the off times they had a musician on there. Sorrell Booke was and forever shall be the essential Boss Hogg. And while Willie may be good he is still a pale shadow of Denver Pyle's Uncle Jesse.
One other dukes of hazzard thing. Anyone remember the animated show about the dukes racing boss hogg around the world? I still have very very vague memories of it existing but not much else.
Cootin: The Dukes of Hazzard series was such a classic, why remake it.
Luigi Novi: Need you ask? Ch-CHING!
That show, R, was just called "The Dukes" and was produced by Hanna-Barbera.
...so Luigi likes The Dukes of Hazzard. I'm speechless.
Why?
Cool. I looked it up on IMDB after I posted that. As all I have in my mind is vague images from the show. But the around the world race was kinda stretching things even for the dukes of hazzard idea. But one thigns that was cool was it apparently had everybody doing their own voices for the show and it had frank welker as flash, smokey and the general lee. Which I wish I could remember. Oh well.
Rona: ...so Luigi likes The Dukes of Hazzard. I'm speechless.
Luigi Novi: I believe I stated that I liked it when I was a kid. Why did you distort that statement into a different one, Rona?
Ok I have finally seen some of this. My stepson's girlfriend came over and brought this. I decided about 10 minutes into it that even the car wasnt worth burning this many braincells for.
I realize the original wasnt the brightest bulb on the tree in many ways but at least it was intelligent in its own way. This one makes the original look like high shaekspearing drama performed by the royal company. Ieven though it is 30 degree outside and snowing I decided taking a walk would be healthier for me than sitting through this.
Jessica Simpson has switched record companies. Wow. There was a paragraph on IMDB making much of her move from Columbia to Epic. But, aren't they both owned by Sony? So, what's the big deal?
Here's my opinion, posted elsewhere on this site back in January 2007, when this film was on HBO ad nauseum:
I was too lazy to get the remote and change the channel, so I took a gander at The Dukes Of Hazzard movie the other day. It's pretty dumb, as dumb as the series was, with some serious overacting from Seann William Scott as Bo Duke (or is it Luke?) Johnny Knoxville is too old to play Luke (or is it Bo?) Burt Reynolds kind of sleepwalks in his role as Boss Hogg. Jessica Simpson's DirecTV commercial was based on the barroom scene here. In fact, Simpson's Daisy is the only Duke that holds down a job (unless you count Uncle Jesse's (a haggard looking Willie Nelson) moonshining business as "employment."
Burt Reynolds wears a goattee in most of the film. Except in the last scene, where he just has a mustache. Re-shoot, anyone?
Of course, they doubtless destroyed some irreplaceable Dodge Chargers for this. According to IMDB, 26 Chargers were used, including one from the series; it doesn't say how many were wrecked. A classic car is a terrible thing to waste.
This movie got a "PG-13" rating, as most films these days get, and maybe even strive for. But. there is nothing in this film that would have kept it from getting a "PG" not too many years ago.
