Anyone else see the promos for this or anythign about it?

From what I understand its about a white american army brat who goes to japan and gets caught up in the drifting scene and has some run ins with the yakuza while trying to prove himself to the leaders of the japan drift crowd. (Yes a very brief cliff notes of cliff notes summary but movies havent been high on my list of priorities recently)

Looks interesting, hot cars, hot chicks, cool music. Might be a fun ride. 2 wasn't so bad (did have some nice stuff, just the main characters where somewhat lacking in something at least the secondaries carried the movie for me), 1 was the best and brought the tuner crowd mainstream (Or as mainstream as it gets) so lets see what happens with this.

Oh and for those who may not know Drifting is basically trying to take your car and get it sideways, yet still in control while going around a track as fast as possible without goofing up and hitting anythign or anyone. Sort of a controlled skiding race (usually considered a bad thing in most other races). You get points for how fast, how wild and what position you come in during "officially sanctioned" races (yes there is a drifting league.) but usually street races just count on position and the rest is show.

While I have street raced I never got into the drifting scene. Something about purposely putting your car sideways is not very comfortable with me.

Not for me. Orange Julius (orange RX-7) and Slapjack (caramel-colored Supra) were kind of bland and Suki (pink S2000) was rather annoying.

Drifting is basically trying to take your car and get it sideways,

If you live here in New York, you can do that easily. Just wait until winter.

I liked Suki. She was hot. But yeah I can understand. Each their own.

Getting sideways on Ice or wet is real easy (Ohio weather does the same thing) its that control part that makes it problematic.

I thought that Tyrese (2F2F) was a more interesting anti-hero than Vin Dissal (The Fast and the Fuious.)

Somewhat I guess. I thought they where both ok.

Alas, according to the latest issue of the British "Modding" magazine, Max Power, drifting is now regarded as "Old Hat", as apparently the latest craze in Japan is that of Time Attack....
(Basically, think of someone doing the "Time Attack" videogame option for real....)
The Front cover of said featured a heavily modded Nissan Skyline, with a 700BHP engine intended for said function...

Ah, but drifting has yet to hit America. No doubt we will be hearing news stories soon of people being killed doing it.

By R on Thursday, May 25, 2006 - 4:33 pm:

Yeah Japan is usually a bit ahead of America in the car/tuner/modding set.

Right now in America its mainly still a small scale west coast thing. Racing/Tuning is still pretty popular as is ricing your cars.

Possibly Influx. Anytime you get large amounts of speed and ego together someone is going to push things too far and since drifting is already pushing things to the edge....Bad thigns happen when you dance on the edge of a sword.

Ah, but drifting has yet to hit America.

Speed Channel's Sports Car Revolution used to have a very silly segment called "Drifting Emergency." In it, the guys on the show (most notably host Tom Hnatiw) made the frantic segment look like a dubbed Japanese monster flick. But, that show originated in Canada (as does Hnatiw's other Speed Channel show, Dream Car Garage.)

Re:last comment
It seems that these shows have not made it onto U.K/European T.V channels yet....
The British T.V show 5th Gear (not to be confused with the other T.V motoring show Top Gear) did try to attempt a record for cars doing simletainous "Doughnuts", recently.... (I think it was 12 at once).

Adam, Too bad I don't get cable that sounds like a funny show.

I looked at the trailer online and noticed one of the cars they where using was a Lancer EVO. The EVO is an All Wheel Drive car which does not drift worth a dang (thanks to being AWD) so they must have done something to it ,probably turned it into Rear Wheel Drive which is actually the better for drifting as Front Wheel Drive has to involve the E-brake a lot more.
