Archived Sci-Fi/Fantasy Boards
10.26.06. These twenty boards are here as the result of a mishap that occurred on 10.25.06 when I was in the process of reorganizing the Science Fiction/Fantasy boards. When I took over as moderator, I found that there was a link on several Genre boards to the James Bond Spoofs board. I wanted to remove this link, but found that while it was visible to users looking at the Genre list (On the Movies main page), it was not visible to moderators in the Administrative area. I came up with the idea of simply moving all the other boards in a given genre to a new genre board, leaving the James Bond Spoofs link where it was, and then deleting that old board. This worked for the first couple of genres that I tried it with, but something bizarre happened when I tried it with Sci-Fi/Fantasy.
Since those boards were not alphabetized, and existed in two or three discreet groups that I wanted to integrate, I decided to move them bit by bit to the new board, starting with those beginning with the letter "A". That worked. Then I moved the "B" and "C" ones. But when I checked, those twenty "B" and "C" boards were not visible in the Administrative area, even though they were visible to normal users. I tried moving them back, and the "A" ones reverted easily, but since the "B" and "C" ones were invisible to me, they were stuck there. Hoping that other mods did not this problem, I asked Butch Brookshier, a roving mod, to check out the Movie boards, but he too could not see them in the Administration area, and attempts by both him and Phil Farrand didn't fix the problem. Even worse, through yet another mishap, somehow, those twenty boards themselves became invisible even to regular users! I don't know how that happened, but Butch informed me that even though they were now in some sort of Nitcentral limbo, he still had the urls for them.
So what I decided to do was to leave those 20 boards here, and move this board containing them to the top of the Sci-Fi/Fantasy movie list, and create links for them in that main list. Everything should still function mostly normally, meaning users can see them, and moderators can see the links, but the boards are in this Archived area, albeit invisible. The main limitation on them is that because they are invisible in the Administration area, their page layouts cannot be modified. Posts cannot be edited or moved, posting function cannot be closed, nor new subtopic boards be created for them. Hopefully such things will not become necessary, because like an Internet version of Las Vegas, whatever happens on those boards, stays on those boards, and the only way to remove anything on one of them would be to remove the link to it, thus removing user access to the board entirely.
So to future administrators and moderators, I apologize for this mess I helped create, and hope it does not overly inconvenience you. To keep all these boards and the original posts made on them, you’ll have to make sure you don’t delete this board. I’m going to leave a list of the boards’ urls, courtesy of Brook Brookshier in case you need a record of them.
Thanks.

UPDATE 1.9.07. Unfortunately, it looks like the move to the new server has pretty much rendered these urls unusable, since clicking on them leads to a Forbidden page. So that's that. I apologize, but it looks like we may have permanently lost these boards, including the Back to the Future movies, Blade Runner, Contact, etc. So if anyone wishes to comment on those movies, they'll have to recreate those boards. I apologize to all users whose participation on those discussions have been lost.
