Thanks, Merat and Luigi, for your concern about my son. He's OK, although he was out of school for a couple of days.
Was it "Bullitt" or "The French Connection" where the car loses five hubcaps?
That was Bullitt with it's use of the same bit of action filmed from several different angles and then used throughtout the sequence responsible for the multiple hubcap loss.
I had no idea where to put this. From The Onion horoscopes

Nothing can convince you that the chase sequence in Bullitt isn't the greatest love scene ever committed to film.
They had the same green VW for a lot of the chase scenes or its a different green VW!
Don Gordon had to learn to be a cop and he convicned some lady she was really under arrest!
(it was on amc i think a while back).
Saw this flick at the TCM Film Festival recently; there's nothing like seeing a great car chase on a big (the Chinese Theater's) screen. My stomach was doing somersaults as the cars wound up and down the hills of San Francisco. Jacqueline Bissett was set to appear, but a family emergency forced her to cancel.
The Dodge Charger that Frank Bullitt (the great Steve McQueen) is chasing in his Mustang loses two wheel covers during the chase. But toward the end of the chase, both covers reappear on the Charger.
