The Pirate Movie

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Movies: Comedy: The Pirate Movie

from The Pirate Movie (a decade old, but still good):
Actually, it's really hard to pick nits in this movie because it's decidedly NOT serious; it's a satire of a satire - a take-off of The Pirates of Penzance, which is a take-off of serious opera.
However, despite all that, there is one scene that always makes me wonder.
Frederic and Mabel are talking on an island, lots of plants. Frederic throws his sword down, says something, and leaves. Mabel watches him walk off (on water - ya gotta see it!), and starts singing. Then they show Frederic walking along WITH HIS SWORD! Altho it's possible for him to have picked up his sword, it would have been hard - he threw it in the middle of some bushes, below the path. So he couldn't just reach down and pick it up, he had to find it first.
Of course, this nit doesn't spoil the movie at all; in some ways it adds to it. The movie is so free with reality anyhow, this just makes it funnier.

mei- ever thought of participating in the G+S ramblings section of the Kitchen Sink? If you have any other comments on the Pirates film i think they should go there because we do NOT ahve enough members!

Oh, and I never thought the Pirates film was a parody of Pirates - merely an alternative way of doing it.

Whoops - I thought when you said the Pirates movie you meant the Joseph Papp version - now I see you mean "The Pirates Movie"...
