Major League

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Movies: Comedy: Major League

First, this movie has true baseball strategy. You have your fastest man on second, with two outs, and the infield would be playing deep, expecting a hit. If he beats the bunt, the lead-off man can possibly score. Even if you or the runner in scoring position are thrown out, your team will still get one more at-bat, with the 3,4 and 5 hitters coming up.

Now for the nits: 1) Cleveland's stadium looked like Milwaukee's old stadium. 2) In the final scene, when Charlie Sheen is brought out to get the final out, the bases are loaded, and the catcher (Tom Berreger) only gives one set of signals!

In the playoff game with the Yankees, there is a scene where Yankees #37 is batting and on first base at the same time.

In the playoff game, when Cerrano hits the home run, he takes his bat all the way around with him. A base runner must drop his bat before he reaches first base, or he is out.

Much of Rachel's plan would be impossible.

1) The players union would file a grievance (and win).

2) The Indians are traveling by bus. Even in 1989, MLB schedules assume air travel. How are the Indians to make it from Cleveland to West Coast in time to make their games?
