A tremendous hit in the fall of 1979, this entertaining and amusing flick was unfortunately the first of the late Dudley Moore's last two hits. (His last was 1981's Arthur, and he then descended into a long series of movie and TV flops, which lasted until his untimely death in 2002.) It also gave Mary Cathleen Collins, aka Bo Derek, her 15 minutes of fame, and made Ravel's "Bolero" a hit. (I remember calling a record store in 1979, to ask about sales of "Bolero" for no reason than pure curiosity. The fellow on the other end of the phone said that sales were way up, due to "that silly movie.") Moore plays George Weber, who's obsessed with a newly married young woman (Derek) he sees on her wedding day, and chases her to Acapulco. Look for a young Brian Dennehy as a bartender there. Julie Andrews played Moore's girlfriend here, but almost no one remembers her in this, do they?
Anyway, while following the bridal limo, Weber collides his Rolls-Royce with a police car. When the officer asks Weber for his paperwork, it's discovered that he has an expired driver's license, and no vehicle registration. Yet, the cop lets him drive the car away, and Weber gets just a traffic ticket on the spot. For crying out loud, the car should have been impounded, and Weber possibly should have been hauled to the station.

By the way, if you want to (or must) see a really bad Bo Derek movie, check out the 1984 atrocity Bolero. An embarassment to all concerned, especially poor George Kennedy, who looked so ashamed to be cast in this soft-core nonsense. Maybe Mr. Kennedy was marking time, waiting for the next Airport movie, which was never made. At least he bounced back with the Naked Gun series. Where is Bo Derek these days? (If you want a good George Kennedy perf, check out the entertaining but almost forgotten Clint Eastwood action pic The Eiger Sanction.)
