Two Family House

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Movies: Drama: Two Family House
By Adam Bomb on Saturday, March 02, 2002 - 12:27 pm:

There were a couple of nits in an otherwise fine film I saw on HBO2 this morning called "Two Family House." The plot is that the main character, Buddy (Michael Rispoli) is a dreamer and is constantly shot down by his wife, friends and family. He buys a two-family house and builds a bar in it, after he evicts the upstairs tenants.
Nits:
1. This film was set in Staten Island, New York (where I was raised) in 1956. Naturally, there is a shot of the Staten Island Ferry. The ferryboat used was the "Gov. Herbert H. Lehman", which was not put into service until 1965. To be fair, the boats used in 1956 were scrapped long ago. But, couldn't the producers have done a bit of research and at least replaced the nameplate on the boat with the name of one used in 1956?
2. Buddy's love interest in the film, Mary, (his former tenant, BTW) is seen carrying a bag of groceries home (without French bread, BTW.) There is a box of Ronzoni pasta sticking out of the bag. However, the lettering on the box is of the style used today, not in '56. (Ronzoni changed their lettering a few years ago.) This is odd, as the producers have a couple of scenes set in a local grocery store, stocked with goods in the boxes that were used in that era. ("Cheerios" comes to mind.)
