Being John Malkovich

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Movies: Science Fiction/Fantasy: Being John Malkovich

Jared, why no create a new conversation buttons under the Miscellaneous Drama and Miscellaneous Sci-fi/Fantasy sub-sections? I ask because I have something of a nitpick relating to the movie Being John Malkovich.

SPOILER!

Am I the only one who finds it selfish of that group of elderly people to enter--no, make that invade--John Malkovich's mind and thereby live through him? Or how about their intention to cram themselves into John Malkovich's ex-wife's daughter? They never explained as to whether or not the original occupants of the vessels these out-for-themselves old-timers break into are also carried over to the next vessel. Even so, what if John Malkovich or his ex-wife's daughter do not wish to live eternally? Aside from this, the movie was mediocre and became mighty weird not long into the film, in my humble opinion. I hope this movie is not categorized under comedy, considering it is anything but such a genre.

Okay, since I can't make a new discussion, I will put this here.
Being John Malkovich; Much and all as I love this film, and much and all as I hate to pour pee in the punch, it does not seem quite so dazzlingly original when you read The Drawing Of The Three by Stephen King, second book in the whole Dark Tower series, also, my favourite ever set of books.
But anyhoo, both feature doors.Just plain old doors; Craig finds his buried behind a filing cabinet, while the Gunslinger finds three doors standing in mid-air on a beach. Both find that the doors lead into people, where they can see through that persons eyes, and later they both learn that they can take control of that person when they want to.
Granted, the Drawing was a serious book, and the film went for a totally different surreal comedy approach, and I think they're both great. But as I said, the film ain't too original for me anymore.
