Got questions? Feedback? Requests? Free Super Bowl tickets? Here's the place.

I think Jard and Sax are somewhere quietly crying.

By Craig Rohloff on Monday, February 04, 2002 - 2:52 pm:

A few days ago I used the "create a conversation" button to pose the question of whether or not there was interest in a board about the Mad Max trilogy under Jake's Movies: Action/Adventure (Or Both). There was a response the same day.
Unfortunately, I didn't discuss the idea with the moderator, so I apologize if I've violated protocol in any way. (I just added a note to that new board stating the same thing, just to make it known there.)
So...was this the correct way to handle the situation? And just to make it official, could a board about the Mad Max trilogy get started?
Thanks!

By JD (Jdominguez) on Monday, February 04, 2002 - 3:18 pm:

No problem at all, Craig. Check out the Mad Max Trilogy section.

By Joe King on Saturday, February 09, 2002 - 2:18 pm:

Any chance of a Daria board? We've got Is It Fall Yet around but the full series is worth a section for the animation slip-ups alone.

By JD (Jdominguez) on Sunday, February 10, 2002 - 9:30 am:

I don't see any problem with it, Joe, except if you're talking about the actual TV series. That will have to go under its own board on the front page. This lovely domain is for movies and mini-series only. Sorry. :-)

By Craig Rohloff on Friday, February 15, 2002 - 8:16 am:

Having just watched 'Leon,' I thought another potential board for Jake's Movies: Action/Adventure (Or Both!) could be Leon/The Professional (or two subheadings for each film, since 'Leon' is different from the pared down 'The Professional').
Then again, maybe there's nothing to nit in this film! (A non-nit-able film? Can such a thing exist?)
Anyway, thanks for considering it.

By JD (Jdominguez) on Friday, February 15, 2002 - 12:13 pm:

If you want the boards for the two movies, Craig, go ahead and make them. That's what the "Create a Conversation" button is for!

By Padawan Observer on Sunday, February 17, 2002 - 7:03 am:

Jake, are you sure that the person asking about the "Daria" board was being serious? I mean, look at the name he posted under...

By Anonymous on Saturday, March 09, 2002 - 6:59 pm:

Has anyone noticed that the current incarnation of the "columbia lady" logo for columbia pictures bears a striking resemblance to Ida Lupino circa 1955?

By John A. Lang on Tuesday, April 09, 2002 - 7:06 pm:

The new "Spiderman" movie WILL HAVE the groovy 1960's cartoon theme at the beginning of the flick! ('bout time!)

By JD (Jdominguez) on Tuesday, April 09, 2002 - 7:53 pm:

Very cool, but why am I in particular supposed to know about this?

By Groovy 60s Singers on Tuesday, April 09, 2002 - 8:09 pm:

Spider-man Spider-man
Does whatever a spider can.
Spins a web, any size.
Catches thieves, just like flies.
Look out, here comes the Spider-man.

Is he strong? Listen bud,
He's got radioactive blood.
Can he swing from a thread?
Take a look overhead.
Look out, here comes the Spider-man.

In the chill of the night,
At the scene of the crime.
At the speed of light,
He arrives just in time.

Spider-Man, Spider-Man,
Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man
Wealth and fame, he's ignored.
Action is his reward.

To him, live is a great big bang up,
Wherever there's a hang-up,
You'll find the SPIDER-MAAAAAN!!!

By Craig Rohloff on Wednesday, April 10, 2002 - 7:29 am:

Maybe it has to do with "BUGGING" the moderator!

By LUIGI NOVI on Wednesday, April 10, 2002 - 11:17 am:

John A. Lang: The new "Spiderman" movie WILL HAVE the groovy 1960's cartoon theme at the beginning of the flick!
Luigi Novi: No way. I can't believe Raimi would make such an awful, cheesy decision.

Are you sure about this, John? Where did you hear it? Is it some type of hard rock or metal updated version of the song?

By Brian Webber on Wednesday, April 10, 2002 - 12:18 pm:

Oooh, I hope it's The Ramones version! :)

By Joe King on Wednesday, April 10, 2002 - 1:17 pm:

So it isn't frying pan, which freatures in the "playground" version of the lyrics. ie:Spiderman, Spiderman can do anything a spider can, climb up here, climb up there, in & out of a frying pan!

By John A. Lang on Wednesday, April 10, 2002 - 3:26 pm:

The article was printed in the Chicago Sun Times a few days ago. The finale of the movie will feature the Spidey theme but with Aerosmith doing it in a "modern" way.

JD- I put the note here because I didn't know where else to put it. I apologize if I offended you.

By JD on Wednesday, April 10, 2002 - 5:55 pm:

No, s'alright, I was just curious as to why here. :-D

By KAM on Thursday, April 11, 2002 - 4:14 am:

John, if you scroll down the Topics list you will see a board for Spiderman & they already have some discussions about the film.

By stephen on Saturday, May 18, 2002 - 6:53 pm:

A couple of years ago people were talking about a James Bond Board and I don't see it here; why not?
They could have one for both the books and the movies.

By JD (Jdominguez) on Saturday, May 18, 2002 - 9:46 pm:

If you're looking for the James Bond movie boards, you can find it here under Jake's Movies:Action and Adventure:James Bond Films. If you're wondering why there isn't a James Bond board on the topics list, that's probably a question for the Chief.

By KAM, the Kitchen Sink Moderator on Thursday, June 13, 2002 - 3:07 am:

Hey Jake. There are some old movie boards in the Kitchen Sink (Movies More Or Less under Media) and they would probably be better here. If you want them, maybe we can ask one of the Roving Moderators to move it?

By JD on Thursday, June 13, 2002 - 9:36 am:

That would be nice, KAM, but I don't know if the Roving Mods have that power, I think this might be a job for the Chief.

BTW, this exact message is also on Lasersword Tavern. :-)

By Butch the Roving Mod on Thursday, June 13, 2002 - 7:49 pm:

Jake and KAM,
It's not part of our "official" duties but, yes, we can move things around that way.

If you want to do it, I don't think the Chief would mind if one of us put them where you want them. We would be acting with the permission of both Mods involved. This question came up somewhere not too long ago and the consensus seemed to be it was alright as long as both Mods agreed to the move.

By JD (Jdominguez) on Thursday, June 13, 2002 - 9:26 pm:

Oh, that's terrific, Butch.

Um, let's see, if any of the friendly Neighborhood Roving Mods could move the folder Movies More or Less, under Media in the Kitchen Sink, into my Rick's Cafe Americain, that would be great.

Oh, and if you have extra time, perhaps move Adventurer's Row (Role Playing Boards), from Kitchen Sink into my Heroes of Past, Present, and Future (Other Stories) under L.I.C.C., that would be great too. KAM, care to make a confirming post?

By Brian Webber on Thursday, June 13, 2002 - 10:35 pm:

I'd been suggesting Jack Mightee and the others should go to the new LICC board. I'm glad someone finally agreed with me.

By KAM trying to remember Rikers line from that NextGen episode on Friday, June 14, 2002 - 7:13 am:

Yes. I agree. I concur wholeheartedly.

Thanks Butch.

Thanks for taking them JD.

By Kai on Friday, June 14, 2002 - 8:52 am:

KAM, if you have the guides, it's quoted in the First NextGen book (pg 78, Where Silence Has Lease):
"Yes, absolutely, I do indeed concur, wholeheartedly!"

By Captain Baldy on Friday, June 14, 2002 - 11:30 am:

You could have just said yes

By Butch the Roving Mod on Friday, June 14, 2002 - 5:27 pm:

KAM and J.D., it is done.

By CC on Friday, June 14, 2002 - 5:50 pm:

Jake, how about putting spoiler warnings before & after Josh M's post in The Time Machine?

By KAM on Saturday, June 15, 2002 - 7:00 am:

Thanks, Kai.

Thanks, Butch.

By Nit Reposter on Sunday, June 30, 2002 - 8:36 am:

I have some nits from an old board called Movie Ads. Did you want them posted here somewhere?

By JD on Sunday, June 30, 2002 - 9:16 pm:

Sure, I'll create a Movie Ads board under Rick's Cafe and you can put them there. Thanks.

By ScottN on Saturday, September 14, 2002 - 1:34 am:

Where the heck is Jaws???? (I don't care about the sequels).

By LUIGI NOVI on Saturday, September 14, 2002 - 8:26 pm:

Scott, why don't you just make a board for it yourself?

By ScottN on Saturday, September 14, 2002 - 10:17 pm:

Didn't know I could... So I'm not too bright sometimes.

By Rene on Saturday, November 23, 2002 - 7:22 pm:

Is there a board for the new James Bond movie?!

By Dude on Sunday, November 24, 2002 - 9:00 am:

You could MAKE one you know.

By Merat on Sunday, November 24, 2002 - 1:55 pm:

Except there isn't a button for that in the area designated for James Bond films, Dude.

By KAM on Wednesday, January 15, 2003 - 6:39 am:

Given the recent... difference of opinion over where Daredevil should go, maybe you should create a section for Superhero Movies where superhero & superhero-like films can go?

By Brian Webber on Wednesday, January 15, 2003 - 10:39 pm:

I agree with KAM!

*I'm screaming to be heard over the gasps of shock* :)

By KAM on Thursday, January 16, 2003 - 4:19 am:

Webber agreeing with me. Isn't that one of the signs of the Apocolypse?

By Sven of Nine, the Fifth Horseman on Thursday, January 16, 2003 - 7:14 am:

Don't forget the Fourth Winking Smiley of the Apocalypse!

By Zorak, Lone Locust of the Apocalypse on Thursday, January 16, 2003 - 9:35 am:

No, I'm the sign.

Space Ghost, what are you doing with your disrupt-o-ray?

By Butch Brookshier on Saturday, January 25, 2003 - 5:10 pm:

Jake, shouldn't the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies be in the new Comic Books/Superheroes section?

By Butch Brookshier on Sunday, January 26, 2003 - 3:37 pm:

And now he's done it! Thanks Jake

By Benn on Tuesday, February 04, 2003 - 8:08 pm:

Jake, the following movies belong on the "Comic Books/Superheroes" board:

Blade and Blade II - The character of Blade first appeared in Tomb of Dracula #10 and was a regular in the title.

Men In Black and Men In Black II - MIB was published by Malibu Comics before the company was bought out by Marvel Comics.

Heavy Metal - Very much based on the anthology magazine. As a matter of fact two of the segments were based on characters from the magazine: Den and Captain Stern.

Road to Perdition - Elsewhere, Darth Sarcasm has pointed out that it was a "graphic novel". While this is true, graphic novels are a part of the comics family. It was initially available at comic shops - primarily. But Road to Perdition was championed and celebrated by the comics community as a triumph for comics. I think it belongs.

By LUIGI NOVI on Tuesday, February 04, 2003 - 8:11 pm:

I believe Men in Black was first published under Aircel before Malibu.

By ScottN on Tuesday, February 04, 2003 - 8:26 pm:

Benn, (and you should know this, given your name :O) it's STERNN (2 'N's).

By Benn on Tuesday, February 04, 2003 - 8:34 pm:

You're right. All I could remember off hand is that Sternn was a Bernie Wrightson creation.

I never read Men In Black, so I really had no idea who published it first. I just know that Marvel ended up with it. But everything I've read about the series has indicated it was a Malibu property first.

By KAM on Wednesday, February 05, 2003 - 5:49 am:

This is why I simply suggested the section be called Superhero Movies & not Comic Book Movies. How many people would think to look for Road To Perdition in Comic Book/Superheroes?

What about Ghost World? It was based on a comic but does not, to the best of my knowledge, feature superheros. (I also don't know if there is a board for it or not. I simply mention it as a superheroless comic book movie.)

I think Superheroes should include characters that are superheroes (Superman, Spider-Man), or characters who seem to be superheroes (Batman, Spirit, Shadow, Doc Savage), or characters who come from a superhero universe (Punisher, Blade). Other comic based films should go in whatever other category they seem to fit.

By Dude on Wednesday, February 05, 2003 - 9:40 pm:

Dare I suggest a seperate board for Trilogies?

By JD (Jdominguez) on Friday, February 07, 2003 - 9:58 am:

Comic Books/Superheroes renamed to just Superheroes, and Blades I and II moved there. I'll have to think on the Trilogies idea.

By Electron on Friday, February 07, 2003 - 5:17 pm:

Maybe not exactly for trilogies but for movie series in general like Bond, BTF, etc.?

Speaking of Bond, there is this topic that exists in three quite different incarnations:
Jake's Movies -> James Bond spoofs
Jake's Movies -> Action/Adventure -> James Bond spoofs
Jake's Movies -> Action/Adventure -> James Bond Films -> Sink -> James Bond spoofs
Some of the boards still believe they belong to Jared. J

By JD on Saturday, February 08, 2003 - 2:11 pm:

Yup, there's a bug on the server concerning the Movies board. I don't know if it can be fixed.

By Brian Webber on Sunday, February 09, 2003 - 12:10 pm:

Yeah, Sax tried to remove them too, but they wouldn't show up on the thing. He asked me about it, but I didn't know what to do or how it happened because this happened long after I'd been kicked out of the Movie moderator job.

By Benn on Saturday, March 08, 2003 - 4:28 pm:

Um, hey, uh, JD I was about to make a post on the X-Men 2 board, when I noticed that I had a choice of two boards: "X-Men 2" and "X2". Could these boards somehow be merged? And while we're at it, there are also two Hulk movie boards in "Superheroes".

By Dustin Westfall on Monday, April 07, 2003 - 6:48 pm:

JD, did you get my email? I'd appreciate if you could restore my post to the Roman Polanski board, edited, of course. If not, please let me know so that I can recompose it. Thanks.

By JD on Tuesday, April 08, 2003 - 11:44 am:

It's back up, Dustin.

By Dustin Westfall on Tuesday, April 08, 2003 - 12:34 pm:

Thanks.

By CR on Tuesday, April 29, 2003 - 2:56 pm:

DUH! I forgot this board was here... JD, I just e-mailed you to ask about getting a Movies board for The Poseidon Adventure, which some of us have been discussing on the Lost in Space board. (ScottN suggesting contacting you, and I hastily went the e-mail route instead of coming here.)
Thanks!

By CR on Wednesday, April 30, 2003 - 7:28 am:

And now... D'oh!
I also missed the Create New Conversation button. I didn't see it on the Movies board ('cuz it wasn't there) and didn't go far enough (to an actual board, like Action/Adventure or Both), where it was. Sorry, and thanks!

By Matt on Thursday, December 04, 2003 - 6:49 pm:

Speaking of Movies

How about a movie based on the life and beliefs of Militant Jewish Leader

Rabbi Meir Kahane (1932-1990) born Martin David Kahane
He was born in Brooklyn and assassinated in Manhattan.

For more info on Rabbi Kahane see www.Kahane.org
and JDL.org

By Matt on Thursday, December 04, 2003 - 6:51 pm:

See the Internet post, type into Yahoo

"Rabbi Meir Kahane: Saving the Day"
which brilliantly compares Rabbi Meir Kahane to a Scene in the 1984 Movie Ghostbusters.

By ScottN on Thursday, December 04, 2003 - 11:04 pm:

Kahane was a thug. Sorry.

Disclaimer: I had a friend who was in the JDL in the late 70s.

By LUIGI NOVI on Friday, December 05, 2003 - 6:28 pm:

Excuse me, but can someone here explain to me all the gratuitous off-topic posts and even entire BOARDS created to mention Meir Kahane, when this has nothing to do with Star Trek or Movies?

By Snick on Friday, December 05, 2003 - 7:19 pm:

Seems like a troll to me, or at the least a clueless person.

By ScottN on Friday, December 05, 2003 - 8:00 pm:

And I fed him.

IHBT. IHL. HAND.

By Brian Webber on Wednesday, December 17, 2003 - 7:52 pm:

Hey JD. There are 3 boards for the upcoming Garfield moive (I'm still waiting for Boondocks The Motion Picture me-self, *evil grin*) in the Sink. Such is not neccessary. Could you move the messages from the two erronious boards into the first one? Thanks.

By Butch the Roving Mod on Sunday, February 01, 2004 - 1:07 pm:

Jake, I think the "Bowling for Columbine" discussion is veering off into more of a "Political Musings" subject. Could you take a look at it please?

By Douglas Nicol on Thursday, March 18, 2004 - 3:25 pm:

Under Jakes movies there are also two 'Romance' categories, one of which is unused.

By CR on Wednesday, April 21, 2004 - 7:28 am:

Hey there, I was wondering if maybe all of the Mars-related sci-fi movies could get regrouped under their own heading. There are a few Mars films already being discussed, and I can think of a few more that could be added; it would be nice (and convenient) to have them grouped though. Just a thought. Thanks!
(PS, Jake, e-mail me if you'd like to discuss this in further detail off the boards.)

By JD (Jdominguez) on Wednesday, April 21, 2004 - 8:47 am:

It seems a little eccentric to group sci-fi movies by an odd category such as Mars, but it might contribute to easier searching. The Movies boards are due for reorganization anyway, so I might just implement this soon.

By CR on Thursday, April 22, 2004 - 7:34 am:

Eccentric and odd. Just look at who made the suggestion in the first place! :O

By Benn on Saturday, April 24, 2004 - 11:03 pm:

I don't know where else to put this, but I thought everyone who a hasn't already heard, might like to hear about it: New STAR TREK movie in the making. There are very few details available at this time. Anyone else hear any news?

"I like to watch." - Chauncy Gardener

By KAM on Sunday, April 25, 2004 - 1:31 am:

Jake, have you considered making a Table Of Contents that people can check to see if a movie has a thread & where it might be found?

I made up a TOC for The Kitchen Sink a while back, although here you could put the list in alphabetical order with the folder the movie's in following it or if it's discussed under another area.

Fer instance

15 Minutes - Action/Adventure

Airplane! - Comedy

Angel Eyes - Action/Adventure

Animal House see National Lampoon's Animal House - Comedy

As Good As It Gets - Comedy

Bad Company - Action/Adventure

National Lampoon's Animal House - Comedy

Star Trek The Motion Picture - can be found in the ClassicTrek topic

Star Wars - can be found in the Star Wars topic

Rather simple, although sometimes as in the case of Animal House you might have to have more than one listing since people know them by different names, but hopefully this would allow people to find threads easier & avoid the unnecesary creation of multiple threads for one topic.

By LUIGI NOVI on Sunday, August 22, 2004 - 3:59 pm:

Jake? I take it you deleted all the Fahrenheit 9/11 boards?

By Benn on Sunday, August 22, 2004 - 4:54 pm:

They got moved to Political Musings, Luigi.

By LUIGI NOVI on Sunday, August 22, 2004 - 7:44 pm:

The entire boards? Why? The first board, and at least part of the second, dealt specifically with the movie.

By Benn on Sunday, August 22, 2004 - 9:40 pm:

But it had degenerated enough into politics and the movie had too great a potential to continue to do so. At least that's what I recall as JD's reasons for wanting it moved. It just would not/could not remain merely about the film. It kept veering into politics.

By Benn on Sunday, August 22, 2004 - 9:40 pm:

JD can correct me if I'm wrong.

By JD on Monday, August 23, 2004 - 10:06 am:

Benn's not wrong.

By Brian Webber on Tuesday, August 24, 2004 - 12:14 am:

I agree with JD on this one.

By Some AOLer on Tuesday, August 24, 2004 - 10:09 am:

By D.K. Henderson on Thursday, July 21, 2005 - 5:11 am:

Would it be possible to put the James Bond film "Die Another Day" in the James Bond section? And take the film "The Day After" out of the James Bond section?

Just a suggestion.

By Titanman22 on Thursday, March 23, 2006 - 12:59 pm:

In Sci-Fi/Fantasy, Planet of the Apes series, the movie title is Conquest OF the Planet of the Apes, not FOR, the board title needs correcting. I posted this message on the movie board a while back, thanks!
