Earth vs. The Flying Saucers

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Movies: Science Fiction/Fantasy: Earth vs. The Flying Saucers

In "Earth Vs. The Flying Saucers", the UFO lands and someone shoots one of the aliens. It was clearly an unprovoked attack. No wonder the aliens turn ugly.

In "War of the Worlds", you can see some of the wires that hold up the Martian ship. The same applies to the "electronic eye"

John: But only towards the end. I've seen that movie SEVERAL times and the ONLY time I can see the wires is when the one ship turns and dives into a building towards the end. Before that I couldn't see a single wire on any of the ships.

That's one of the "disadvantages" of having DVD, you can see the wires when they first rise out of the pit too. Pal tried to cover them up with smoke, but it didn't quite work.

In some of the shots in "Earth Vs. The Flying Saucers", the action is supposed to take place in Washington DC, but I know better...it's downtown L.A. (The buildings are simular to the ones seen in "War of the Worlds"...made a few years later)

"Simular"... I didn't know David Letterman was posting to the boards as John A. Lang! :O

As for WotW, I heard on one of the other boards talk of an anniversary edition coming out; I wonder if they'll clean up the wires?

As for another nit about that film, the second machine that crashes at the end is simply a flopped (reversed) shot of the first crash.

Love these old 50's movies.
