WOW!!!
If you can see this movie in 3-D I do suggest seeing it that way before it's gone. It's playing in both IMAX 3-D & a new digital 3-D system in many regular theaters across the nation. I saw it in one of the non-IMAX digital theaters and it was amazing.
As for the film itself:
The action sequences are amazing. Destroys the laws of physics. That's where being an animated film helps, since an audience will accept more impossible motions with animation than real people.
It truly shows the back room studio politics that go into rating a film that it's rated PG-13. Were it live action it would have been R and I'm even amazed that it wasn't still.
**********SPOILER*************
The plot, of course, was adapted from the Old-English epic poem, but the film changes meaning of lots of it. The poem is a good vs evil story where Beowulf is the ultimate hero, always doing what is right and fighting evil. This movie makes him into a great warrior who none the less exaggerates his exploits, downright lies about others and is a bit too horny for his own good. They even tie it to the poem at the end where he confesses to his right-hand man who only replies that he has no idea what Beowulf is talking about since the song that people sing about his exploits must be the true account of it.
One thing I didn't get about the ending though. What happened with Grendal's mother? Earlier in the film they said that when she was gone demon kind would cease to exist so I figured that was how the film would end, her death and nothing left but the song of Beowulf that people sing. She seemed to be alive and still trying to tempt the new king. What happened?
Who cares about Beowulf?
I'm more interested in Grendel's mother! (If you catch my drift)
Does anyone think the line: I am Beowulf is too similar to the line in 300: We are Spartans!
At least Captain Jack Sparrow didn't use it like a tough man contest when he said his line...
Just got the DVD,
Holy smokes...Angelina is smokin' hot as Grendel's mom! DANG! I need Visine!
If I were Beowulf, I'd succumb to her too....
Especially if Grendel's mom was played by Marina Sirtis.
GREAT MOMENTS:
Beowulf & his boat on the open sea.
Grendel's mom
The Sea Monster battle
Grendel's mom
The fire breathing creature
Did I mention Grendel's mom?
