From the creator of "Hot Fuzz".

(Wow, not having the Batman movies on the top of the Superhero subtopics is gonna take some getting used to.)

Are you sure you don't mean MANT? If you don't know, MANT is the "movie-within-the-movie" in Matinee, director Joe Dante's affectionate tribute to 1950's monster flicks. Half-man, half-ant, all terror.

Check out this test footage that was screened at Comic-Con.

Disney has changed the release date from November 6, 2015 to July 31, 2015, which will put it in the same movie season as Avengers: Age of Ultron (which comes out May 1, 2015), and Zack Snyder’s untitled Man of Steel sequel (currently scheduled for July 17, 2015).

This can't be right.

Don't get me wrong, Michael Douglas is a very good actor, but really? A 69-year-old actor to play Ant-Man? Who's his archenemy gonna be? Arthritis? Rising Medicare co-payments?

By Josh M (Joshm) on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 - 12:15 am:

I've read he's playing older Hank Pym and Paul Rudd is playing the Scott Lang, who will be the movie's hero.

By Luigi_novi (Luigi_novi) on Thursday, February 06, 2014 - 5:49 pm:

Evangeline Lilly is in talks to play Pym's daughter and Lang's love interest.

Filming began today!

And here's the trailer...

And checking imdb.com listing , I'm not sure why Evangeline Lily is 'Hope' Van Dyne, instead of 'Janet' Van Dyne, the proper character name.

Well, this movie was just delightful. Fast paced and funny, much more Guardians than Ultron to compare it to Marvel's last two major releases. It has a smaller scale, both literally and figuratively, and it worked for me.

Nit, though. Luis goes out of his way to save the security guard he knocked out and tied up. This is just seconds after he knocked the two or three guards who were shooting at Scott, meaning they're probably still dazed on the ground as the timer counts down past 2 minutes and were probably caught up in the explosion/shrinking. I suppose Luis may not care about the guys who were just trying to kill his friend vs. a guy who was just doing his job, but it was kind of strange timing.

Couldn't agree with this more! Though a bit predictable/formulaic it was still a fun movie IMHO.

SPOILERS ABOUND!!

My nits are pretty minor but mostly revolve around my unfamiliarity with Antman's abilities: When the Cold War footage of Pym taking on entire platoons was shown we seem flying around as if he really was a bullet, which is what he was compared to in the movie, but how did he get to each person so quickly? Doesn't he still need momentum to move around?

On a similar note, throughout most of the movie Antman seemed to get around much faster in his shrunken form than should be possible, even when riding around on a flying ant.

Even though it was explained, I still thought the reason(s) Pym sought out Lane was pretty weak. Also, he breaks into Pym's house on a tip, finds practically nothing in his safe except some weird suit, decides to take it anyway and put it on later... Does this seem odd to anyone else?

As a training exercise Hank sends Scott to what he thought was an abandoned Stark warehouse, but is now the Avengers HQ we see at the end of Ultron. He lands on the roof (ant-sized) and immediately Falcon comes by to investigate a potential security breach. First off, the sensors to that building must be going off non-stop of something that small can trigger them. Secondly, Falcon's goggles are pretty sophisticated if he can still see Scott running through thick grass without a thermograph. And finally, when he returns to the Pym residence and gets an earful from Hank and Hope, only to show that his trip was a success, it's as if they had no communication since battling Falcon. They're in SF and the Avengers compound was in upstate NY; that's about a six-hour flight and they didn't talk to each other before or after the trip, or during assuming he was still ant-sized?

End Spoilers

The house that stood in for the Pym residence looked very familiar to me so I looked up the film locations and Buena Vista Park in SF was one of them. I checked it out and sure enough the house on Haight Street! I've been by there many times and came close to renting a room in an equally nice place across the street not too long ago.
