Just heard a scary rumor that director Nolan is considering casting an older woman--- no, a MUCH TOO OLD woman in the role of Catwoman for the next sequel.
Cher.
CHER IS 62 FOR GOD'S SAKE!!!!!!!!!!
Can you guys say, "Eeeeeeeewwww!!!!" ????
Please, please, pleeeease hire Angelina Jolie
(the other rumored actress for the role)or SOMEBODY that was born in the past 30 years for the role, Nolan! Cher is TERRIBLE idea, PERIOD!
This can't be right.
But I loved Lee Meriweather and/or Julie Newmar...
anyone knows what happened to them?
Have you ever heard of Google, IMDB, or Wikipedia?
I never thought I was watching Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight.
It'll be impossible for me to see anyone but Cher on screen IF she's Catwoman. I won't see a character, I'll see an old actress that has no business in that role.
Gross.
Hes_dead_jim: "But I loved Lee Meriweather and/or Julie Newmar..."
Yea...when they were in their HOT prime years in their THIRTIES!
What about Annette Bening? She was to play Catwoman in Batman Returns, but had to bow out due to pregnancy. Maybe she could get her chance now...?
She just turned 50 on May 28.
No thanks.
45 years of age would be my absolute maximum, and only if the actress looked like she was still in her thirties.
Having a Catwoman that doesn't have the grace and speed of a cat is somewhat counterproductive, if you ask me.
Perhaps they'll give Halle Berry a chance to redeem herself from the lousy "Catwoman" movie.
If Cher is chosen, maybe Batman will say, "I've got you, babe"
LOL!
I knew the whole Cher thing was a load of b.s.! Nolan isn't even signed on for the next film (yet)!
(Note: The above link is the second page of a two-page story.)
Of course, MY nomination for Catwoman is...
Marina Sirtis.
(Of course, you guys knew that, didn't ya'?)
BTW---All this talk about Marina got to me...I had a dream about her. I was at another "Trek" convention in my dream. I got to kiss her in my dream. It's too bad I had to wake up.
(I'm not making this up either)
Duh , JohnA :P
Johnny Depp is the Riddler, according to Michael Caine.
Caine also says that Phillip Seymour Hoffman is the Penguin, but Hoffman denies it.
Nolan on whether he'll direct.
Possible clip
(Just kidding)
Gary Oldman says shooting begins in 2010, and it's two years away.
Christopher Nolan has an idea for the third movie, which his being scripted by his brother Jonathan and David Goyer, who co-wrote the first two films.
Goyer is juggling this with his showrunner duties on Flash Forward.
We have a release date, along with the tentative title: July 20, 2012.
I thought it had been posted here or somewhere on the site, but the Joker will not be recast and will not appear in this movie.
We have a title and villain update!
And by update I mean elimination.
First of all, the title: The Dark Knight Rises. Bit of a combination of the first two titles and my least favorite of the three.
Nolan has also confirmed that the Riddler will NOT be the villain.
No Riddler? Ah, phooey! His fans (there are at least 3 of us worldwide! We are a growing movement!) can officially be considered disappointed.
Now they'll porbably get some second-stringer out of obscurity, like Penguin or Catwoman. :-)
The Riddler definitely would've made a good villain. A villain that taunts the main detective character with clues and riddles would've been really cool, a la Hannibal Lecter, or John Doe from Se7en, and seeing that type of archetype grafted onto a film version of the Riddler, so as to treat the character seriously, as was done with the Joker, would've been awesome.
I can't wait to see who the villain will be, but I'm sure that Goyer and the Nolans will do him/her justice.
And who knows, maybe they will use him for the fourth film?
Catwoman is hardly a second string villain. She's one of the most well known of the major bat-villains.
Apparently the movie makers have recently released a casting call for a young actress to play a strong woman; or something of that nature. People have speculated that it could be anybody from Catwoman, Harly Quinn, Barbra Gordon or even Talia al Ghul given that her old man was defeated by Batman in the first movie.
Nolan reportedly considering using unseen footage of Heath Ledger in the next film.
According to the source, "The idea is to use these fragments of cut scenes and use CGI to have The Joker appear one last time. Chris wants some continuity between movies and for the franchise to pay tribute to Heath and his portrayal of the Joker. "It would only be a fleeting moment in the movie and would only be included with the full consent of Heath's family."
Two pieces of news:
First, I'm a little late in reporting this, but in October it was revealed that Tom Hardy, who played Shinzon in Star Trek Nemesis and Eames in Inception, has joined the cast.
No word yet on what part he's playing, though suggestions that he'd be a good Hugo Strange have circulated, as well as rumors to that effect, rumors that have been debunked.
Second, and more timely, is the short list of actresses who are being tested for major female roles: well-known actresses Keira Knightley, Anne Hathaway and Jessica Biel, and newcomers Kate Mara, Charlotte Riley and British actress Gemma Arterton.
Which characters these roles are has not been confirmed, but some sources say one character is Talia Al Ghul. (Could a Damian Wayne be in a future film?)
According to the first source above regarding Tom Hardy, shooting begins this spring.
Latest rumors:
-Eva Green and Naomi Watts are going to be cast, possibly as Talia and Vicki Vale.
-Principal photography is set to begin on May 6th with post-production set to begin on November 28th.
-There will be some new designs for the Batmobile and Batcave. (This isn't really a surprise, not simply because the previous car was destroyed in the previous film, but because of the way art directors and designers are always tinkering with such elements for each new film in a series or franchise.) The source says the Batmobile will be sleeker. The Batcave will keep the circular bay for the Batmobile, but will incorporate modern elements, as well as the Batcomputer and storage for multiple Batsuits, which the former of which hasn't been seen yet in the Nolan-Goyer Bat series.
Anne Hathaway will be Catwoman. Can ya dig it? Maybe I can, if I can erase her horrible performance as "99" in Get Smart from my mind.
I'm not too thrilled about Anne Hathaway being cast as Catwoman (though its possible she may actually be playing Selina Kyle for most of the movie). I like her, but I just don't think she's a good choice for that character. (Would be better as Rachel Dawes if she hadn't been killed off, or even Poison Ivy)
Tom Hardy has been confirmed to be playing Bane. So I'm guessing when Bane is pumped up on the Venom he'll be CGI?
Joseph Gordon-Levitt will also be in the film, though we don't yet know which role he's playing.
Gordon-Levitt, who previously worked with director Christopher Nolan and star Tom Hardy in Inception, was previously mentioned as a contender for the role of the Riddler, before Nolan indicated on October 27 of last year that that villain will not be in the movie.
Oscar winner Marion Cotilard is in discussions to be cast in the film. Will she be Talia?
First shot of Tom Hardy as Bane!
The teaser will be in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, according to Superhero Hype.
AWESOME teaser poster!!!
There's a HUGE version of it on the movie's official site here.
The teaser trailer is out! The teaser trailer is out!
Loads of candid shots of the production filming a scene in which Batman fights Bane (apparently in broad daylight, while surrounded by cops.)
Okay, there are some clearer, sharper shots here, at least one of which is a better version of one of the ones linked to above.
First shots of Anne Hathaway as Catwoman.
Some way clearer shots here.
MEOW!
Don't you mean...
HANDS OFF!! SHE'S MINE!!!
That applies only to Marina Sirtis
Is this a new Bat vehicle?
It's obviously not the Tumbler, although we do know that Batman has it rebuilt by the time of this film's story, as seen here.
The Batwing crashes into a sign during filming.
Batman: Cheap foreign imports!
Maybe he ran out of gas because he couldn't afford the high prices!
John A. Lang: Batman: Cheap foreign imports!
The vehicle, or the sign?
Steve: Maybe he ran out of gas because he couldn't afford the high prices!
How does running out of gas make you crash into a sign?
Sorry, guys, I couldn't resist, I just found these comments genuinely funny.
A 6-minute prologue will precede Mission: Impossible: Ghost Protocol in IMAX this December.
They were filming in downtown Manhattan last weekend, and will continue this weekend. The production is using a phony name on the parking warning cards posted on the lamp poles - "Magnus Rex." So, if you're in downtown NYC, and see that title posted, you know what's really up.
The movie takes place eight years after the previous one.
Also, some info from Tom Hardy on Bane's "brutal" fighting style.
Bale wrapped up his shooting several days ago, and says that this is his final Batman film.
It's also, I believe, Christopher Nolan's last, too.
Yes, that's mentioned in the linked story too. I didn't mention that because I figured that I or someone else here had already mentioned it, but in scrolling through the thread, it appears that I was mistaken. Thanks, Benn.
No problem. I was sure it was in the article. Just thought I'd mention it anyway.
The trailer is here!!!!
Pretty good on all counts. It really invokes an ominous, scary atmosphere, in which Bruce appears to be genuinely at the mercy of Bane and Catwoman. I love how the trailer, like the films themselves, utilizes music, choice of clips, etc., to create a legitimate feel for a film in which you want to know what happens, instead of just "here is a superhero adaptation, go see it" mentality.
Question: That one football player who ran toward the camera and avoided the collapsing field right before turning his back to the camera? His name is "Ward", which is written on the back of his jersey. A reference to Burt Ward, who played Robin on the 60s TV series?
And for those interested, here is a lousy, bootleg version of the 6-minute prologue now playing in front of select IMAX showings of Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol.
The bigger question about the football player is how the hell did he not notice the ground blowing up behind him? I don't care how noisy the crowd at the stadium is, that kind of noise, an explosion like that, is not going to escape your notice. (The shockwaves should've knocked him off his feet, I would think, too.)
I thought he did notice, and was deliberately trying to outrun the collapse because of it. Wouldn't he have felt the ground trembling beneath his feet and reacted instinctively? I dunno, I'm just going on what I remember, without going back and re-examining the shot.
Same here. But given that he stops, at what I thought was past the goal line, never looks back, it seemed to me that his was a normal linebacker's run for a TD, rather than trying to escape a potential disaster. I could be wrong, though. Might have to rewatch it, after all.
BTW, "Wouldn't he have felt the ground trembling beneath his feet..." would have been due to shockwaves and should have knocked him off his feet, I would imagine. Again, if he noticed the tremblings, shouldn't he have looked back to see what was going on?
Just watched it again. Yeah, the linebacker continues to run with the ball, never looks back and only stops (and then looks back) after he made it to the end zone and scored the touchdown. He's clearly unaware of what's going on behind him. Which is hard to believe. Several chunks of the field come up right at his heels.
Sorry. It collapses. The ground collapses all around him and practically at his heels. It would still be very hard not to notice that happening.
Bane must've used those Silent CGI Explosives.
lol What's equally amazing is the collapse conveniently stops at the goal line.
Oh, so they're kinda like those explosives used on basketball courts, y'know, the Shaquille O'Neal Brand Explosives.
Like him, they stop working at the free-throw line.
lol
The reason the last name says "Ward" is because it's the Steelers' Hines Ward, pretty much playing himself.
Sexy publicity photo of Anne Hathaway in full Catwoman costume.
YOWZA!!
More pics of Anne Hathaway and Christopher Nolan in costume here.
Anne Hathaway's costume sure looks a lot like hers. No doubt intentionally. And, since when does Catwoman carry a gun?
Since Hollywood decided they had free reign to change whatever they wanted, ie the Bat costume, the Batmobile, the look of the Joker, etc etc etc.
It might just be a publicity photo, and she might not even use one in the movie.
Well, the hat and the mask, perhaps. But the rest of the costume is indeed the one she's wearing in that boatload of pics that have been released of her during filming.
Looks like Bats has a rap sheet.
That's a wanted poster. I believe a rap sheet is a record of one's arrests and convictions.
The final trailer for "The Dark Knight Rises" is pretty good. It sets up a really good sense of tension and despair.
I don't like the (Spoiler: highlight to read.) "special" vehicle in it, though. (Maybe if it looked more like a vehicle designed to do what it does. But whatever.) (End spoiler.)
pick pick pick
Early reviews are in, and they sound good!
Not bad indeed. I'm still skeptical about this one though because I've never really liked Bane. It appears this movie has made him more intelligent than the comic-book version but I still would've prefered one of Batman's other villians instead.
The trailers for this movie has caused me to revisit some questions I've had about comic book villians. Bane claims to be "Gotham's reconing" but what has Gotham specifically done to deserve this type of attention? You take over and/or destroy an entire city so then what?
Rotten Tomatoes temporarily suspends user comments after commenters made profane and threatening remarks to critics who wrote negative reviews of the film.
Are you trying to tell me something Luigi?
(I know, I'm not a critic, plus I rarely even read reviews prior to a film's release)
Anne Hathaway made a very good Catwoman
All this time and still nobody wants to nit-pick it?
I'll get the ball rolling.

When Bane takes over the stock exchange, it's light out. A delivery guy even brings a sandwich to a trader. Bane has data downloaded into a computer and is told it will take 8 minutes to complete.
Meanwhile he and his men break out of the building and are chased by the cops and Batman-- only it's completely dark outside. Batman recovers the computer, but the 8 minutes come to an end in his hands.
How could daylight disappear so completly in 8 minutes? It's far too light, then far too dark for just 8 to 10 minutes to pass.
I know how a certain someone escaped at the end, but in the interest of spoilers, I'll wait for an all-clear from the moderator or movie viewers to ask how. It seemed pretty impossible, but the answer is shown earlier in the movie.
No Batmobile in this movie-- the first time in any Batman movie. Unpainted tumblers don't count.
How did Batman survive and live to fight with such a stab wound? It pretty well took the fight out of hiM for the following scenes, and he never patched it,e'd be bleeding inside his suit. And shouldn't the body armor have prevented such a wound?
The How It Should Have Ended video has a few good points.
DVD and Blu-Ray arrive 12/3/12 in the U.K. and 12/4/12 in the U.S. More here.
November 28 for Australia...
Near the end when the bus full of kids are on the bridge the bus has an Illinois license plate, but a few seconds later a taxi with New York plates can be seen clearly. The previous Batman movies were primarily filmed in Chicago, or at least several of the city shots obviously were. Knowing this, why did TPTB switch it up with NY, particularly since Metropolis has been using NY as its backdrop for decades and Gotham doesn't really compare as far as size/population.
The batwing's main propulsion is by propeller; there's little chance it would be able to outmaneuver guided missiles; based on that and its design.
It seems Batman has super-powers afterall as he heals from his leg issue and broken spine, as well as the knife wound Steven mentioned, quite quickly. Granted, earlier in the movie he put a mechanical brace on his injured leg, which more than made up for the handicap, but Bane would most likely take it off him when taken to the infamous prison.
After the trapped police officers were freed their attack strategy consisted of walking down the street en masse directly toward Bane's HQ, with men who primarily used automatic weapons versus their sidearms. 'Gotham's Finest' doesn't seem very fitting here. Also, what happened to all the tactical gear most of them were wearing when they went to the sewers?
A group of organized criminals attack the stock exchange and download information. Days later Bruce Wayne loses his company's money via bad investments and nobody questions if the two occurrences are related? Further insult to injury, Wayne Enterprises cannot be saved financially after the siege is over, despite the fact that it was their (secret) technology that saved the city from total destruction.
If Batman overlooked his 'do not kill' policy in his first confrontation with Bane he very well might've saved himself and the city a great deal of pain and suffering. The how it should have ended video Josh posted does a decent job of detailing what could've been.
IMHO, this movie would've been just as good if it were 30-40 minutes shorter; it felt like a marathon watching this thing. Otherwise, a good ending to an entertaining trilogy.
