Oh lord. I did love this though;

Cook called the upcoming pics for the rest of this year and 2009 "the most creative slate of films in Disney history" and showed sequences from "High School Musical 3: Senior Year," "Bedtime Stories," "Race to Witch Mountain," "Hannah Montana: The Movie," "Old Dogs," "The Princess and the Frog," Robert Zemeckis’ "A Christmas Carol" and Pixar’s next pic, "Up."

Creative? High school musical is a sequel, Race to witch mountain sounds like a re-make of one of their 1970's films, Hannah Monyana is from a TV show, the Princess and the Frog is (I think) a Fairy tale and 'A Christmas Carol' must hold the record for the most number of films made from the same book. Then we have Pirates 4 and National treasure 3, both sequels.

If this is Creative lets hope they don't fall into a rut any time soon....

"High School Musical" is a Sequel...
To a sequel. A theatrical sequel to a TV movie sequel to a TV movie.

Hannah Montana: The Movie..
Yecch! Just the idea makes me grateful I never had a daughter.
Even though I still have yet to sit through the entirety of Fantasia (I bought the VHS in 1990) that film is still much more creative than anything listed above.

I thought Fantasia was wonderful. Bought it for me, not the kids.

Trailer. And a title.

I noticed the trailer yesterday but didn't post it because I'm not sure how to do that. So far it looks to be entertaining and a decent sequel. I don't think I'm gonna miss Orlando or Keira; well maybe the latter a bit :-)

A very entertaining flick but it could've used a few tweeks IMO. The movie just felt long; several scenes could've been shortened.

SPOILERS!!

Blackbeard 'destroyed' the Black Pearl and Barbossa cut off his own leg in order to escape the ordeal alive. Instead of acting like a pirate and just finding another ship and crew to hunt down Blackbeard he actually joins the Royal Navy? That doesn't make sense to me. I would think that route would hinder not help his hunt.

The whole plot with the mermaids was cute but didn't really go anywhere. When the "Bible thumper" was mortally wounded Syreena(?) claimed she could save him so they kissed and she dragged him underwater. Legend has it that a mermaid's kiss can prevent drowning but what about his other wounds and what if he wanted to leave the sea?

The entire reason that the Spaniards sailed across the Atlantic was to destroy the Fountain of Youth? That seems like a huge waste of time and resources just for the so-called "Pagan monument." Wasn't Ponce de Leon Spanish? Would it not be an honor to the country to claim the fountain for Spain instead of destroy it?

Am I to understand that the 'historical value' the movie had was that Blackbeard's real name is Edward Teach or was it something else? The fountain works by one person taking the years of another, but is that just the years a person has left or have already lived? I'm confused by that whole thing.

I knew Jack would switch the chalices at the end. Wouldn't the poison on the sword have rubbed off on Blackbeard already? A more conclusive ending would be that all Jack had to do is smash open the bottle to get the Pearl instead of the other BS he talked about. There is a post-credits scene but not as interesting as the previous movie's IMO.

Judging by the opening weekend's boxoffice, and the post-credits scene, there may be another, but where else could they go with it? Either way, it was worth the matinee price to watch.

Am I the only one who thought the Fountain of Youth resembled the Guardian of Forever from the STAR TREK ep, "The City On the Edge of Forever"?

Exactly how were Blackbeard's officers zombies? They may have been very loyal to Blackbeard, but they seemed to be able to think independently and in no way exhibited any traditional - or neo-traditional - zombie traits. Throw out the zombie characterization and there wouldn't have been any noticeable differences with these characters.

Wouldn't the poison on the sword have rubbed off on Blackbeard already?

Not only that, but I'm pretty certain I saw Barbosa's poison-tipped sword dip into the water during the sword fight. Mightn't that not washed the poison off the blade before it could be run through Blackbeard?

Personally, I didn't think this film was as good as the first three. It didn't completely $uck. Just not anywhere near as good as its predecessors.

"Savvy?"

By AWhite (Inblackestnight) on Monday, May 23, 2011 - 11:55 pm:

I knew that looked familiar! Thanks Benn. Another thing about the Fountain that just came to me is what was Ponce de Leon's role with it? Did he create the thing? Why was using it so complicated and how did Ponce have the exact cups needed to use it? He obviously didn't use the Fountain, or else he'd still be alive, but was he merely just searching for it?

The movie certainly seemed to lack the 'flow' of the other three, but maybe it's developing its own.

I haven't seen this pic yet, but I'd go for one reason - Depp's Capt. Jack Sparrow. He's great in the role, and seems to be having a blast playing him.

Shhh. Or Harlan Ellison will sue.
