One of the quickest transition from theaters to pay cable I can recall - it was released to theaters on October 2009. Maybe the quickest. The previous "record" might have been 1983's troubled film Brainstorm. That was released to theaters in September of 1983, where the film immediately bombed (it was pretty awful). It was released on VHS in December, 1983, and premiered on HBO in May, 1984.

The original, with Terry O'Quinn as the stepfather, is way better, IMO.
