Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Movies: Action/Adventure: 2012

I watched the 5 minute clip the studio released on Youtube and I was very impressed. However, I noticed a couple of glaring nits: 1) A massive sink hole is destroying LA all around, yet the limo manages to get to the airport and rather fast at that. Talk about one extremely lucky crew! Its hard to move through the Los Angeles area during the morning (looked like rush hour) even without the city crumbling apart 2) The airport is in Santa Monica, which is right by the sea. Why didn't the plane pull up and turn to fly out over the ocean instead of dodging falling skyscrapers in downtown LA?

One more thing: all of that moving/falling rock should be causing massive winds due to the air displacement. I remember a National Geographic article from the very late 50s/early 60s about a big earthquake that hit Yellowstone park. A large rockslide happened which caused a massive gust of air said to be of hurricane strengh.

Actually, Zooz, LAX is in Inglewood, which south of Santa Monica. However, you are correct, that it shouldn't be dodging skyscrapers. The landings are from the east, the takeoffs are to the west. That is, takeoffs *DO* go over the sea. In fact, there's a sign at the end of the runway: "No turn before coast". I laughed myself silly the first time I saw it.

THe end of the runway hits the coast just south of Marina del Rey.

If the earthquakes are happening all over the world, where do they plan to land the plane when it runs out of gas?

I liked this movie the first time I saw it, when it was The Day After Tomorrow!

The same guy made both movies, he just recycles the storyline from TDAT here.
