Sex and the City 2

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Movies: Comedy: Sex and the City 2

Saw the trailer...I am NOT happy.

First...why is Charlotte whining about her kids? She was reproductively challenged before this...she should be grateful. Yes, kids can get bratty at times, but still...you should be glad that you have them

Second...WHY is Carrie getting involved with Aiden again? He's married...she's married. Get away from him!

The only possible thing that's got me interested is the rumor that Samantha might be married...which is kind of odd...seeing she could never commit herself to anyone before.

BTW..I was talking about the sequel...not the original.

Sorry to bring this up again, but...the small fact that my then-wife was married didn't stop her from being unfaithful, way back around 2001 and '02.

Here's a not so kind opinion. The movie's been rated "R" for sexual content and language (were you expecting a "PG-13"?) Opens everywhere May 27.

I guess I'm just old-fashioned

Hewlett-Packard has a cross-promotion with this flick. Including SJP's Carrie allegedly using an HP in the film, and Parker appearing in HP commercials. But - In the series, Carrie was very loyal to her Mac. Including replacing the motherboard when it tanked, and leaving the Mac on her bed when she left New York for her aborted stay in Paris. A press release on the cross-promo is here.

Seems like a case of the producers, um, "whoring" their franchise for money. I'm not one of those people who thinks that any & all product placements are selling out; but sometimes it can be.

Macs are the computer of choice for well off, big city, liberal, hipsters. Not only that but it's established that the character is a Mac user. Suddenly they drop that in favor of a cross-promotion with HP.

I've been trying to find out the running time; it's finally been posted at IMDB. A bladder-busting 146 minutes. Michael Patrick King must like to make his movies loong, as the run time for the first SATC movie was almost identical.

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Tuesday, May 25, 2010 - 7:50 am:

The New York Daily News' review is here. No mention of the long running time. The 2.5 hour run time of the first SATC pic was a sticking point with some critics.
And, so what if Big wants to snuggle on the couch, rather than go club hopping? I was the same way. Still am, in fact. Maybe that would make me seem dull and boring, but I'm too old to care.

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Tuesday, June 01, 2010 - 7:11 am:

The first weekend (a four day holiday one) had a relatively poor box office total - $37.1 million. Which put it in third place, behind Shrek Forever After and Prince of Persia - The Sands of Time. If you add in Thursday's b/o take (as it opened a day early), the total was $51.4 million. I really expected a much bigger box office, on a par with the first movie, especially due to the enormous hype this film received in the weeks prior to release.

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Friday, June 11, 2010 - 5:50 pm:

The second weekend had an even worse box office take - $12.3 million, a drop to fifth place.
I wanted to see SATC 2 with the girlfriend. She adores the first flick, and saw it three times - once with me, and twice with her girlfriends. She saw this with her friend the other night, and hated it. The word she used most frequently used to describe the flick was "stupid". Stupid plot, stupid acting, stupid all around. She says that she won't sit through it again. And, as I won't see the flick in a theater without her, this will be one for HBO.

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Thursday, August 26, 2010 - 11:10 am:

DVD and Blu-Ray come out October 26.

...This will be one for HBO.

And, for those of us who missed the movie in theaters, it will premiere on HBO this April 2. Let's see if the girlfriend will watch it with me, or if she's still true to her word that she won't sit through it again.

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Thursday, June 28, 2012 - 11:00 am:

And, she didn't, so I was left all alone to see this on HBO. It's not as bad as the reviews were, and I enjoyed it. But, the girls are getting too old for this stuff.
The girls are seen riding camels in the Abu-Dhabi desert. And, they're getting cell-phone service there. With no cell towers in sight.

By John A. Lang (Johnalang) on Wednesday, June 25, 2014 - 8:46 pm:

What was the point of bringing back the men from SATC in this movie? They barely had any screen time at all.

The first movie was better.

BEST MOMENT:

Carrie flashing her leg to get a cab in the Middle East. (Works every time)

By John A. Lang (Johnalang) on Wednesday, June 25, 2014 - 8:49 pm:

Why doesn't Charlotte trust Harry to be faithful?

Yes...they have an Irish nanny with "a nice rack", but Harry has told Charlotte time & again how much he loves her.

TRUST is a part of marriage.

By John A. Lang (Johnalang) on Thursday, June 26, 2014 - 7:32 pm:

CONTINUITY ERROR

At the wedding, Antony says, "I'm Italian"

In the series (When he first met Stanford), Antony said he was Sicilian.

(And he added, "There's a big difference")

By John A. Lang (Johnalang) on Thursday, June 26, 2014 - 7:34 pm:

Boy, oh boy...Charlotte's girls are going to grow up with deep emotional scars when they remember that their mom....Charlotte..."vanished" for two days during moments of their youth.....and it was for getting away from them!

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 - 9:35 am:

I don't know where else to put this: A limited revival of SATC will occur on the streamer HBO Max. Without Kim Catrall's Samantha; the actress wants to put the series behind her. (Why? Is she that much in demand? Maybe Valeris will reappear somewhere...) More here.

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Saturday, December 18, 2021 - 7:22 am:

The girls are getting too old for this stuff.
Quite evident in the first episode of the sequel series, titled And Just Like That. Maybe Kim Cattrall was the smart one to sit it out.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Sunday, December 19, 2021 - 7:02 am:

Another revival that no one wanted or asked for.

Is Hollywood that bankrupt for ideas.

By Francois Lacombe (Franc0is) on Sunday, December 19, 2021 - 9:04 am:

It's not that they have no more ideas, it's that they are allergic to risk and only want products they perceive as safe investments.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 - 5:40 am:

So they keep digging up corpses of franchises that were laid to rest years ago.

Reviving them like Victor Frankenstein did to his monster.
