OK, for this one, we look at the following scenarios;
Movies you thought you were going to hate, but ended up liking (in my case M:I 2 is a prime example)
and
Movies you thought you were going to love, but ended up hating (in my case, American Psycho).
Thought I'd Hate It, But Loved It: The Sixth Sense
Thought I'd Love It, But Hated It: 2001: A Space Odysey
Six Days, Seven Nights: Thought I'd Hate It, But Loved It
I Hated, but Thought I'd Love, Mission: Impossible 2.
I Loved, but Thought I'd Hate, Coyote Ugly.
Thought I'd Hate, but Didn't: American Beauty
Thought I'd Like, but Didn't: Broken Arrow
Thought I'd Hate, but Didn't: Field of Dreams
Thought I'd Like, but Didn't: The Blair Witch Project
Was positive I would hate it, but loved it so much it became one of my all-time faves: "Saturday Night Fever." (The "R" rated version)
Thought I would like, but hated it:"Broken Arrow" (the '97 Travolta one.) Go back to dancing, John.
Thought I would like Forsaken--Hated it.
Thought i wouldn't like Emperor's new Groove--Loved it.
Thought I'd hate, YEAH!\Thought I'd love, YUCK!
Starship Troopers\Mission2Mars
Pitch Black\Alien3 (or cubed) &4 TOO!
Erin Brocovitch\Eyes Wide Shut
American Pie (I was 34 HaHa'ed alot!)\Porky's (I was 15 & shudda Ha'ed)
Playing By Heart\Magnolia
Thought I'd LOVE but ended up HATING: The Blair Witch Project.
Thought I'd HATe, but ended up laughing my ass off: Deuce Bigalow, Male Gigolo.
Thought would be as good as Deuce Bigalow, Male Gigolo, but wasn't as good: The Animal.
My friend made me sit and watch Army of Darkness, and, because I'm not a big fan of horror films, I thought I would hate it. It turned out to be hilarious and is now one of my favorite movies. I thought I would like Evil Dead II: Dead by Dawn, and did, though the humor was different than in Army of Darkness (which is also called Evil Dead III: Medival Dead) and it also became a favorite. The Evil Dead, though turned out to be what I expected Army of Darkness to be, a horror film, so I didn't like it.
One I forgot:
Thought I'd LOVE, but didn't: Batman
Thought I'd HATE, but didn't: X Men
Yum, yum, yum. One name. Wolverine. Yep, us gals like our eye candy as much as the next guy. Gotta go now and cook dinner 'cause it's on at 9:00 (X Men)HA, HA, HA (sound of Anita panting, not laughing).
I thought I would hate the 1980 "Jazz Singer" but I really liked it. The pic and Neil Diamond took a bad rap from the critics back then, and the public ignored this fine pic.
Thought I'd hate, but didn't: Titanic
Thought I'd like, but didn't: Spawn
I'm no Barry Norman, but I know what I like.
Thought I'd hate, but didn't: Star Trek Insurrection
Thought I'd like, but didn't: Star Trek First Contact
Thought I'd hate, but ended up loving: Back To the Future
Thought I'd love, but ended up hating (or at least being bored silly by): Out of Africa
Thought I'd hate, but ended up loving: Back To the Future
Not surprised. It's just good plain fun. Doesn't pretend to be anything else.
Yeah, I realize that now, but before my friends dragged me into the theatre the 'his own mom has a crush on him' promos just struck me as weird - I didn't know how they were gonna make that funny.
Also I usually have a very low Christopher-Lloyd-wacky-character tolerance.
Hahaha...here's another diehard BTTF fan.
For anyone who hasn't been following the latest news...BTTF Trilogy DVDs should be out by the end of 2002...with TONS of goodies!
Thought I'd like, but didn't: Conspiracy Theory
Thought I'd really dislike, but liked quite a bit: O Brother, Where Art Thou?
Thought I'd like, because everybody I know kept saying great things about it, but during watching couldn't stop thinking, "WHEN IS THIS GOING TO END?": Being John Malkovich
I hated 2001,I saw it San Francisco, on its first run, then saw it again and again and again and again and again and again and again
and again (14 more times).
Then i hated 2010, (permanantly), Close Encounters of a Third Kind,
then I got the Vhs, then the dvd, then,
Duel with Dennis Weaver. The Orca (?) copied jaws..
Monty Python's Life of Brian,Mission Impossible 2 and 3.Wish Peter Graves made them.
Star Trek the Motionless Picture, Inssurection.
Why would you see a movie you hated 14 more times?
Nove- finally liked it! I left it when the heavy breathing started in act 3..I was only 9 then.
I didn't like till I undertsood it, yahrens later, this Movie.I can feel it.I'm afraid Dave. My god its full of Stars!
the books were better.2001, 2010, 2061, 3001.
Robin Hood , Men in Tights, that's why they call a John a John!
I thought I'd like "Strange Brew", but didn't
I'd thought I'd like "Star Trek-Insurrection" and "Star Trek Nemesis", but didn't.
Guess Who's Coming to dinner. Why did Sidney P. love a white girl anyways?
SuperNove-the special effects in 2001 were way better than
todays cgi stuff.Casper,The live Scooby doo, etc.
Star Trek's Where No Man Was enhanced before went backwards to me.
I thought Guess Who's Coming to Dinner? was an excellent film. They explained where the two of them met. What made you think you'd hate it, John?
RE: Luigi: That's "?"'s question, not mine.
I never saw "Guess Who's Coming To Dinner?"
In Carmel ca I took a family to see 2001, they left when the Jupiter scenes showed up and I made my dad come get me. I was not happy. The other kid who was there apologized when we went back to school.
So they missed the Starchild stuff.
----------------------------------
The Bedford Incident. Unbelievable. A reporter gets free reign on a nuclear ship..If the he fires one ,I'll Fire One. Booooooom!
btw,Supernove, in San Fran in 83, some lady thought it was a soup line on Market street and Powell, for 2001 and gave me a couple of quatloos. I guess I was the poorest one!
I'm afraid, Dave.
Its origins and purpose still a total mystery.
-------------------------------------
Midway. At first I didnt like it.Then it was shown on tv..If Japan won the war the USA would be speaking
Japanese or not even born.
Sorry, John.
No prob.
A Knight's Tale. I thought I would hate it, but watched it with some friends. As long as you go in with no logic or seriousness, its fun.
Spaceballs. How can we be seen right now?we are in middle of making this Movie!
Luigi, why did he love her?, I know where they met.
A movie I thought I'd like but ended up hating was Howl's Moving Castle. Now I've read the book by Diana Wynne Jones which is a slightly fractured faerie tale. I had heard that Miyazaki had taken some liberties with the source material but was willing to accept the possibility that these claims were exaggerated. Let me tell you, if you thought Ralph Bakshi had mutilated Lord of the Rings, that's nothing in comparison to this. Essentially Miyazaki took the characters' names and a few bits of dialogue and shoehorned them into his own story. And what a ghastly story it is, all preachy and devoid of the charm and whimsy of the book. The only worthwhile aspect was Billy Crystal's performance as Calcifer.
Hunt for Red october. Russkys wanted to go to the Usa.Why did that political officer had to die?
and they cut up Dr. Crushers part badly!

also in tng's Deja Q ,Q knew she was gone, did they have an episode that wasn't filmed?
Q knows everything. Why are you asking that here?
