With the news of the death of Frank Frazetta I decided to pull out the videotape of this 1982 Ralph Bakshi film that was based on paintings by Frank Frazetta.

Of course one problem with basing a movie on pictures that were done over a number of years for different reasons is that you end up with scenes and characters that exist simply because they were in a picture & not because they were intended to be part of one big story.
Which is not to say that it's a bad story, it just has some extraneous bits that pop up for no important reason.

That being said, I do remember reading an interview with screenwriters Roy Thomas & Gerry Conway where they mentioned that due to a miscommunication the first draft included all Frazetta paintings done to that point.
Now that must have been a mess.

Queen Juliana & her son Nekron have driven humans out of the region of ice to "huddle for warmth amongst the volcanoes".
That line is just laughable.

Oddly enough the people from the region of ice & the subhumans are usually shown in loincloths while the king of Firekeep & Prince Taro are shown wearing more clothes.

Funny that Nekron should kill Prince Taro, but spare Lorn. Almost as if he knew who was the hero of the story & shouldn't be killed off.

Lorn is pretty good at flying a dragonhawk despite, apparently, never having done it before.
Must be very well-trained pterosaurs.

Of course real pterosaurs had hollow bones & probably couldn't have born riders on their backs & the crash Lorn's takes probably would have broken enough bones so that he & Princess Teagra couldn't fly away on it toward the end.

Nekron is fighting Darkwolf & when his magic is failing to kill him screams, "Why won't you die!"
Good question, the movie never does explain why Darkwolf survives.

The climatic lava scene is obviously rotoscoped water & not molten lava.

When the lava hits & flows into Nekron's glacier there should be clouds of stream released from this meeting of fire & ice, but there didn't seem to be any.

People of the Frozen NorthTM wearing very little is a common yet inexplicable fantasy trope. This is further expounded on in The Tough Guide to Fantasyland by Diana Wynne Jones.

It probably boils down to Fanservice Trumps RealityTM. ;-)
