The next DC animated movie release comes out the 27th of this month and based on the Batman story "Under The Hood" which featured the return of Jason Todd.

The trailer can be viewed here.

Wow. I think this one might be my favorite of the eight DC animated movie released. It's pretty dark, has appearances and nods to many aspects of Batman lore (I liked Jason's subtle ref to The Killing Joke), and brings up questions that many have about Batman and his methods. I do kind of wish I'd read the source material before I saw this, but maybe it's better that I haven't. I can view the movie simply for what it is.

The chase scene where Batman pursues Red Hood's car in the bat plane was painfully CGI. The style was a little odd, though, like they were trying to make it look like the 2D style as much as possible, something that makes sense if they're shooting for consistency.

When Batman drops the Red Hood's convertible roof, I couldn't help but wonder if it landed on something.

Watched it again last night and wow, I'd forgotten how dark of an ending we get. The bomb going off with the wrap-up news reports and that juxtaposition to the final flashback are kind of depressing.

One thing I did wonder, though, was when Batman and Nightwing are chasing the Red Hood through the city, they land in a train station of some kind where the Hood has rigged some explosives to go off. This causes a giant pillar in the middle of the station to collapse and fall through part of the building. Yet seconds later a train goes through and doesn't even appear to be slowing down in spite of the major terrorist act in the placed it's passing. Admittedly, it's hard to tell the extent of the damage since we don't see any from the ground level inside the station, but it looks strange.

Another thing I wondered was just how Batman tracks Red Hood in their first encounter. All he appears to do after Red Hood snipes his hired thieves is locate Red Hood in his binoculars. Somehow, this allows the Batwing to track Red Hood. So why isn't Bruce able to do this after their encounter in the chemical factory? It would only take a minute for the plane to pick Bruce up and continue tracking. Or did it somehow lose him after they went inside?
