The Dark Tower

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Movies: Science Fiction/Fantasy: The Dark Tower
By LUIGI NOVI (Lnovi) on Thursday, January 27, 2011 - 9:17 pm:

Universal is planning to adapt the series (which spans 7 novels, a novella, 9 comic book stories, and an upcoming eighth novel) in the form of three feature films and two seasons of a TV show that will bridge the gaps between them.

Ron Howard will produce and direct.

Contenders for the lead role of Roland Deschain include Christian Bale, Viggo Mortensen, Javier Bardem, Daniel Craig, Hugh Jackman and Jon Hamm. Although The New York Post reported yesterday that Bale is in the lead, Deadline Hollywood reported yesterday that Bardem has been offered the role.

Contenders for the female lead of Susannah Dean include Naomie Harris and Jennifer Carpenter, neither of whom I am familiar with.

The first film is currently scheduled for May 17, 2013 release.

I know we don't usually use textspeak or internet jargon on Nitcentral but ...

*flails*

I am beyond excited about this idea - if it works and they stick fairly closely to the original novels (while editing out some of the weaker stuff!). This could be epic.

Javier Bardem is close to sealing the deal.

Never seen this movie.

Although I like Stephen King, I was never able to get into this Dark Tower stuff.
