The Villains.

When did the Guardians become so popular that they rate a movie? Personally, I never really cared for the Guardians of the Galaxy characters/group/title/concept/whatever. At all.

The film is happening because it will tie into The Avengers, and is part of Marvel's "Phase 2" of films that will lead into the next Avengers film.

I wasn't going to check out this movie, until I saw the trailer. Now I really want to see it!

Well, this movie is just delightful. I've seen it twice now, and it's up there with The Avengers and The Winter Soldier as one of my favorites. I don't doubt I'll be seeing it a couple more times before it leaves theaters.

Not without its nits, though:

In the final air battle, the Nova Corps fighters form that forcefield blockade, basically making them sitting ducks in a dogfight. Lucky none of Ronan's fighters even apparently tried to shoot at the Nova ships, since he orders them to kamikaze the city below instead.

Korath's weapon at the beginning is rather powerful, blowing a hole into the rock wall behind Quill. I'm wondering why he didn't take a couple of shots at the Milano instead of taking a few seconds to load the larger artillery, something his minions possibly could have accomplished once Quill's device was no longer holding them down.

BTW, nice parenting, Grandpa. The kid's mother dies and you leave him out in the hallway, distraught and alone.

Why don't all of the guards at Kyln have some kind of projectile or energy weapon, especially during a prison break? When Quill gets his gear back, the guys that attack him only have some kind of melee weapons.

And yeah, space doesn't work that way. Still cool visual of the skin frosting and blood shot eyes. Even though they're instantly white again once Quill and Gamora are aboard the Ravager ship.

I didn't really know what to expect from this movie, because aside from a few online articles leading up to it I knew practically nothing about GotG, but other than a few minor details I very much enjoyed the experience.

My main criticism of GotG is the pacing; most of the movie flows at a pretty fast clip and doesn't leave a whole lot of time for depth of several supporting characters as well as explanations of plot devices, such as the featured infinity stone. Unlike the other recent Marvel movies, to fully grasp what's going on I would recommend being a bit more informed than I was going into GotG, if you don't know much about this storyline that is.

In regards to nits, this section will contain SPOILERS!!:

The infinity stone du jour was found on a planet that seemed to have been abandonded hundreds of years ago by an average thief with a very specific holographic map. What took so long to find this place and what are the chances two people will be there at the same time?

If Peter refers to Ronan's soldiers as 'paper' and their military craft can be bested by industrial mining pods how is that species considered a threat what-so-ever?

After being in prison for only a couple hours Rocket already has an escape plan, which works quite well despite it going out of order he wanted, but for some reason he is unable to come up with a plan to get the infinity stone from Ronan and instead harasses Quill on his "part of a plan."

All of the Guardians are on Ronan's bridge, supposedly one of the most fortified and centralized part of his ship, and after it crashes they're all thrown clear of its entire structure. Sure Rocket crashed Peter's ship through a window nearby but that should make it even less likely they would all be laying on the ground.

Some were surprised at how long Quill could hold onto an infinity stone and live, so they had his DNA checked to find that he's only half-terran. Why would that make a difference? Besides hightened physical abilities no character in the movie did anything particularly extrordinary, so why does race matter to this stone and not the others?

If Groot can simply be regrown with one of his pieces why did Rocket take his sacrifice so hard?

The post-credits scene was funny but added nothing to the movie or to further the infinity stone plot.

Wouldn't Drax calling the Sakaaran "paper people" be a metaphor?

I'd imagine it's because whoever Quill's father is (and according to reports, it's going to be someone other than who it was in the comics), he belongs to some ancient race that apparently can handle the stone. Remember, Ronan was able to hold it for a few seconds without dying, so it is possible for some species.

I can think of a couple of reasons. Maybe Rocket didn't initially know that Groot could be regrown out of his debris (he could have learned between the scene with Ronan's death and the scene where he's shown holding the pot). And perhaps this new tree being isn't going to be Groot, but more like Groot's "child".

Yeah. Maybe that's what we get for getting two relevant scenes in The Winter Soldier.

I assumed it was, but wasn't it established his species didn't do metaphors? Also, they were called that for good reason it seems, so other than Ronan this 'fanatical' group must be a laughing stock.

Either is entirely possible, and judging by Rocket's demeanor in the very next scene I'm inclined to go with the former, but a couple seconds of dialog to let us know if it was Groot or not would've been nice IMO; the same with bloodlines infinity stones tends to favor.

While I don't want every detail to be painstakingly described, I don't think making things a bit more explicit is asking too much. Besides, it's still a very entertaining flick and I may go see it again while in theaters; something I haven't done in quite a few years. Thanks for the follow-up Josh! :-)

Exactly.

In the comics, each regenerated iteration of Groot is treated as one and the same.
