After Ford saves Northup from being hanged by Tibeats and cuts Northup down from the noose, he tells Northrup that Tibeats is skulking about and wishes to kill Northup. Ford says he fears it is not safe for Northup to remain there and must sell him. Wait, I must be missing something--I thought Ford was the plantation owner. Doesn't Tibeats work for him? Why doesn't he just fire Tibeats? Or have I misunderstood their relationship?

About an hour and fifteen minutes in the film, Mary Epps, who resents her husband Edwin's attentions to the slave Patsey, walks up to Patsey and places her hand on Patsey's right cheek, causing Patsey to collapse and scream in pain. What did she do? Patsey has a scar on her cheek in the next scene when she asks Northup to help her commit suicide. Did Mary cut her, burn her, or what? This wasn't clear.
