Again I found it pointless to create a new board for each movie from this genre that have very few or any nits

J. Edgar

Many people have whined about how inaccurate this movie is...

Of course it's inaccurate...it's told from J. Edgar Hoover's point of view.

His best friend, Clyde Tolson, even pointed it out.

"TRUMAN"

MISSING MONOLOGUE:

They left out the part where Truman asks the White House staff to pray for him after he takes the oath of office.

(It is seen in "MacArthur" though)

"SONS OF LIBERTY" (History Channel)

The series depicts Samuel Adams as a unkempt, vulgar, unshaven, and nonreligious man....

I happen to know different....from his own writings and portraits.

Moreover...everyone calls him "Sam" rather than "Samuel"...I do not believe the Founding Fathers were so informal....the use of full proper names was very common.

The story failed to show the capture of Paul Revere after his famous ride.

Moreover, Revere DID NOT SAY, "The British are coming!"...He said, "The regulars (soldiers) are out!!"

The series depicts thunderous applause after the Declaration of Independence was signed....

There was NO APPLAUSE in Independence Hall when the Declaration of Independence was signed...it was a quiet, somber occasion...the men there just committed treason & they knew they might die for it.

I know this is true because I've been to Philadelphia and took the tour.

The series depicts George Washington seizing command of the First Continental Army.

George Washington did not seize command nor did he volunteer to command the Continental Army...he was elected and accepted it graciously....without pay.

(Philly tour again)

Never let the facts get in the way of a good story.

"SONS OF LIBERTY" (History Channel) (Cont'd)

* My tour of Boston informed me about the lanterns that were placed in the steeple of the Old North Church before the famous ride of Paul Revere.

There were no lanterns seen in the Old North Church in this movie.

* Where was John Quincy Adams in this movie?

Granted, he played a minor role in the Revolution, but he is still the son of John Adams.

* Taxation without representation was the main cause of the Revolution.

The movie does not mention this.

They focus mainly of the brutality of the British soldiers.

Moreover, they made the Revolution sound like a personal vendetta of Samuel Adams instead of a united colonies vendetta.

* General Gage DID NOT address Washington as "General Washington"....he called him "Mister Washington"....and for that, Gage was not allowed to see General Washington until he called him by his proper title of "General".

* Where was Thomas Paine in all of this?

He was the first one to coin the phrase "United States" instead of individual colonies.

COME ON HISTORY CHANNEL...GET WITH IT!

By John A. Lang (Johnalang) on Tuesday, June 02, 2015 - 3:55 am:

Also missing from "Sons Of Liberty" are:

James Wilson
George Mason
Benjamin Rush
James Madison
Alexander Hamilton
Aaron Burr
James McHenry
Robert Treat Paine
John Jay
Patrick Henry
John Witherspoon
Robert Morris

...and dozens of others too numerous to list.

I expected more from "The History Channel"

The HBO series "John Adams" was more accurate than this!

Look on the bright side, it's better than rubbish shows like Pawn Stars, Ice Road Truckers and Ax Men. How ANY of these shows can be construed as "History" eludes me. These shows belong on Spike, not History.

Well, Pawns Stars does show a lot of interesting historical objects coming through that pawn shop, so I guess it belongs there to some degree. The other shows though, not so much.

SONS OF LIBERTY (cont'd)

The director decides to put Samuel Adams on one of the boats during The Boston Tea Party.

Sorry, dude...Samuel Adams WAS NOT THERE

(Boston tour fact)

Braveheart, a perfectly fine movie unfortunately encumbered by the performance of LAPD Detective Martin Riggs wearing medieval reenactor gear.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Friday, November 08, 2019 - 5:27 am:

If you're looking for historical accuracy, however, you ain't gonna find it in Braveheart.

This movie is Part One of Mel Gibson's I Hate Britain series (The Patriot is Part Two).

Quo Vadis

There's a scene where Paul is baptizing people by pouring water on their heads.

WRONG!!!!!

Every religious encyclopedia says that the Apostles baptized by complete immersion.

There's a scene where Peter uses The Sign of the Cross to dismiss the crowd.

WRONG!!!!

The Sign of the Cross wasn't used until after the Council of Nicea.

Other that that, this movie was epic
