Midnight Run

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Movies: Comedy: Midnight Run

A rollicking 1988 action comedy. Robert DeNiro plays Jack Walsh, an ex-cop and bounty hunter who has to bring Jonathan "The Duke" Mardukas (Charles Grodin) from New York to L.A. in five days. Lots of obstacles get in Walsh's way, including the mobster (Dennis Farina) who's money The Duke made off with, and a rival bounty hunter (John Ashton). Running time is 127 minutes. Rated "R" for adult situations, much violence and a lot of strong language.

My dad loved the edited for TV version we watched together. He probably would have been a little put off by all the foul language in the theatrical version of this flick. Including quite liberal use of the "F" word.

Walsh and The Duke are shown boarding Amtrak from New York's Grand Central Station. Amtrak leaves New York solely from Penn Station.

I remember watching this with my Dad years ago & we both really enjoyed it.

My Dad's verdict was it was like Planes Trains & Auto-mobiles with guns.

A Shout Factory Special Edition Blu-Ray comes out August 23. More here. Me, I can't wait.

Great line from Dennis Farina's Serrano:
"Is this moron number one? Let me speak to moron number 2."

Much use is made of pay phones in this movie, both by Walsh and the mobsters. Lotsa luck finding a pay phone these days.
