Ant-Man and the Wasp

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Movies: Superheroes: Ant-Man and the Wasp

Another winner in my book! Though still a little weird to have it so soon after Infinity War. And why couldn't we just have had Wasp in the first film again?

Nits-wise, there's the usual question about why characters existing in an uncontrollable phasing state (e.g. TNG's "The Next Phase") don't phase through the ground/floor. Here it's Ava/Ghost, especially when she first develops the condition as a child.

How could the vehicles possibly keep up with a full-sized car when they're the size of Hot Wheels? Those wheels must be spinning so fast! I guess that's this movie's "miniaturized objects get lighter"-like suspension of disbelief.

It's, of course, very common these days for trailers to have scenes that didn't end up in the film (see: the hero shot in Infinity War's trailer). Unless I missed it, the "I have wings! Why would I go low!" scene does not appear in the film.

NNAN: Scott and the Pym's are very altruistic in helping Ava in that mid-credits scene. Aliens show up in New York again and... the Pyms and Scott are just going on with their day. I wonder how that conversation went.

Scott: Hey, guys, I still have Cap's number. Do you want me to give him a call? I'm sure they'll love Hope. And Janet, those powers you have might help.
Hank, Hope, and Janet: No, Scott.
Scott: Is this still about Germany? I apologized for that! Plus, I feel like aliens in New York are a little-
Hope, Janet, and Hank: NO, SCOTT!

"Though still a little weird to have it so soon after Infinity War."

It had to explain why Ant-Man wasn't a part of the fight, but also close enough to make viewers realize what happened during the first post-credits added scene.

"And why couldn't we just have had Wasp in the first film again?"
Hank was adamant to keep Hope safe, because in the first movie he saw his wife shrink to subatomic level and lost her, so he didn't want Hope placed in that position, too.

"Aliens show up in New York again and... the Pyms and Scott are just going on with their day."

Actually, they're in San Francisco, and they're a little too busy dealing with Ghost to watch the news, I suppose.

The second post-credits scene was the worst of the bunch for me. Just a little inside joke that made you say, "Huh. I waited through 5 minutes of credits for that?! I feel cheated!"

But for the movie in its entirety, I really, really liked it and highly recommend it.
