Not a bad trailer, but one line... erg!
A guy says a ghost sighting hasn't happened in 30 years.
This is as believable as saying there hasn't been a UFO, bigfoot, or Elvis sighting in 30 years. People see things. It doesn't mean they are real, just that that someone saw something that they thought was something.
Glad they've got back to the original series after the 2016 debacle.
The release date is now set as November 2021. (That, IMHO, depends on the state of the current Covid-19 pandemic. Movie theaters are still closed here in NY.) And, the pic has been rated (what else?) PG-13. More here.
Online articles from
August 2021 have stated how people who have already seen
Ghostbusters:Afterlife have said it's Nostalgia Done Right
I'll be checking it out myself, since I've seen the first two movies.
A person on Twitter, I forgot his name, referred to Ghostbusters: Afterlife as Ghostbusters 4 , I guess he counted the 2016 Reboot with the 4 Women Ghostbusters as Ghostbusters 3, but should we consider
Ghostbusters: Afterlife, to be basically Ghostbusters 3 or
Ghostbusters 4 ?
I don't think it really matters. I suspect most of the people who hated the third one will deny its existence whereas most people will just count it as the third film and move on. It's not a big issue.
To me, Ghostbusters 3 was the 2009 action video game which was very well made, had a fun script by Aykroyd and Ramis and was basically just a string of callbacks, much like this fourth film looks to be.
Well, if you count that video game, then this is Ghostbusters 4.
The 2016 film can't be GB 3, no matter how one feels about the movie. It was a reboot/remake and exists as its own continuity, which disregards the previous two films. There's nothing wrong with that fact per se, but including 2016 in Afterlife (which some people are complaining about) simply wouldn't make sense if it's a genuine continuation of the original canon.
Sorry, I'm sure everyone knows what I'm getting at, but remove the word 'not' in my last sentence please
remove the word 'not' in my last sentence please
Done.
Since the three surviving original cast members are now over seventy, I guess that Ray, Peter, and Winston will be doing advisory stuff.
The heavy lifting will probably be done by younger characters.
Oh, thanks Tim! I was just referring to anyone reading my post, but a moderator intervention is appreciated!
No problem
From the trailers for
Ghostbusters: Afterlife , some have
said it has a Stranger Things type of
vibe to it, some have even called it a ripoff of Stranger Things,
Why don't you see the movie and form your own opinion?
Tim, I will, I just hope it isn't postponed again..It's scheduled to come out on November 19, 2021 ,
It's been delayed over a year because of the pandemic
It's too late to postpone the flick now, without major legal action against Sony Pictures. There are trailers on You Tube, and in the theaters that will show the flick, with the November release date; one trailer was run when I saw No Time To Die two weeks ago. But, if past experience is a guide, the Starz premium cable channels will run the pic some six to nine months after its theatrical release; Starz has had an exclusive first run deal with Sony since 2005.
Yeah, they're promoting it here as well.
Is the first name of Paul Rudd's character in
Ghostbusters: Afterlife named
Chad Grooberson or Gary Grooberson ? As of Today I've seen both names given for Paul Rudd's
character in online articles, is it
Chad or Gary Grooberson ?
Opens tomorrow.
Jeff, have you ever heard of IMDB?
Checked IMDB this morning. Paul Rudd's character was listed as "Mr. Grooberson". My advice, for what it's worth, Jeff - Pay the tab and see the movie. It opened tonight. Don't forget your mask, and proof of vaccination, if required. (I was proofed when I saw No Time To Die a few weeks ago.)
Wikipedia also identifies his character that name.
Saw the movie on November 18th,
It was Gary Grooberson,
Great movie
Phew. Now we can ALL get some sleep…
To get us in the mood, yesterday CTV Sci-Fi showed the first two movies.
They also threw in one of the Annabelle movies as well. Makes sense, as Ed and Lorraine Warren (who's cases those movies are based on) were kind of ghost busters.
What a terrific movie. We can forget the 2016 atrocity now.
Nice to see how they worked Egon into the film, despite Harold Ramis being dead. It was the case of the Character Died With Him, as Egon dies at the start of the movie. However, he turns up as ghost himself, to help finally defeat Gozer for good.
As Egon's ghost leaves for the Afterlife, a caption comes up: For Harold.
Nice to see the surviving Ghostbusters back in uniform again. Yeah, they're senior citizens now, hut they had one last case here. And, if they do any more movies, they could come back as advisors.
Will Egon's granddaughter, Phoebe, and her friends, carry on the legacy. The movie seems to hint that.
Jason Reitman (son of Ivan, who directed and produced the first and second films) also carried on a legacy here.
Thumbs up for me.
Just found out that a Sequel film
to Ghostbusters: Afterlife has been announced, wikipedia refers to this sequel as "Untitled 4th Ghostbusters Film" I wonder what the Title should be ?
Trying to see if another thread will stick huh? Ok I’ll bite.
Ghostbusters: The losers you meet in heaven
Guess this will follow Phoebe (Egon's granddaughter) and her friends.
I heard a rumor that Gary Grooberson will end up becoming a
Ghostbuster
Until the movie comes out, we'll really won't know anything.
The movie is currently playing on the Starz channel, and streaming on the Starz app. It's one of the last Sony/Columbia movies that will play on Starz, as Sony has signed a deal with Netflix for their films released from 2022 onward.
I hope more will enjoy it.
Is there an In-Universe explanation for whatever happened to Slimer, why
Slimer isn't in Ghostbusters Afterlife ?
No.
Could Slimer possibly return for the
Ghostbusters Afterlife sequel coming out in 2023. I read that the sequel will be taking place in New York City
Wait until the movie comes out and see for yourself.
The official Title of the Next Ghostbusters Movie is
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire , coming out this
March 2024
I don't really like that title
"Frozen Empire"
Does this release date take the strikes into account?
About the Real Ghostbusters and the upcoming Frozen Empire film
https://movieweb.com/ghosts-from-real-ghostbusters-cartoon-wed-love-to-see-in-frozen-empire/
I wonder if this (and all the Ghostbusters threads) should be in the Science Fiction And Fantasy area.
Technically they meet that category.
Yeah, but they are mostly comedy.
Good point.
According to Wikipedia &
imdb.com the character of
Walter Peck played by
William Atherton will be returning for Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire
After 40 years in this film will
Walter Peck & Dr. Peter Venkman make amends or still have beef with each other ?
Pay tbe twelve (or whatever) bucks and find out for yourself. The pic opens March 22, 2024. I think you can carve out the 109 minutes (plus travel time) to see the movie.
Seen a few promos for it.
Frozen Empire was OK , nothing
spectatular
The MPA# for Frozen Empire was 54308
Does anyone else think
Frozen Empire reminds them of
the 1997 animated series
"Extreme Ghostbusters"
Since I've never seen Extreme Ghostbusters, my answer is no.
