JOKER

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Movies: Drama: JOKER

SPOILERS

Joaquin Phoenix nails it as the Joker...just an ordinary man who is lied to and abused all of his life who finally snaps.

* MISSED OPPORTUNITIES:

This is a very good movie...but would have been better if Bruce Wayne and Arthur were actually brothers (in adoption, that is) Because, as we all know, Bruce becomes Batman and for his own adoptive brother to be the Joker would have been VERY COOL.

It also would have been better if Arthur was the one who shot Thomas Wayne. It would have sealed the incentive for Bruce to become Batman...not that the other clown wasn't an inspiration...but I think you know what I mean.

Finally....Arthur Fleck? What happened to Jack Napier? Turning Jack into Joker from Tim Burton's "Batman" ALWAYS made sense to me...because he always carried playing cards with him.

* MOMENTS THAT MADE ME SAY, "YIPES" :

Gotham City residents applauding and showing their support of the Joker by dressing up like him.
YIPES!

Arthur (Joker) shooting Murray Franklin on live TV and on his show in front of his audience...DOUBLE YIPES!

Arthur stabbing the Detective to death with the scissors...TRIPLE YIPES!

The ending with the bloody footprints...indicating that Arthur (Joker) just killed his psychiatrist...QUADRUPLE YIPES!

* GREAT MOMENTS:

Arthur's laugh is actually a medical condition.

After showing Arthur's improv footage, Murray Franklin calls Arthur a "Joker".
(Not realizing he just created a psychopath)

There were many others...but these were the best.

* NOT A NIT BUT AN OBSERVATION:

Murray Franklin is mean to Arthur for no reason.

Murray uses Arthur's improv footage over and over as an object of ridicule

Murray showed the footage again when Arthur was backstage on his program!

NOW...THAT'S JUST PLAIN MEAN!

Joker premieres on HBO this Saturday, May 16. A scant seven months for a major hit movie to go from theaters to TV. Might even be a record.
