Godzilla vs Kong

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Movies: Science Fiction/Fantasy: Godzilla vs Kong

Released in 2021, Godzilla vs Kong has as the title says the two legendary creatures fighting against each other.
It is a sequel to Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019) and Kong: Skull Island (2017) and the fourth film in Legendary’s Monsterverse series of films.
Not bad in a lot of places but kind of muddles along in a lot of others.

Yes, the girl, the nerd, and the conspiracy guy seemed to be in the way until the end, when they actually contribute to what's happening elsewhere.
Weird seeing Kong 'sitting' on a throne, and holding an axe, but the 'axe' consists of part of one of Godzilla's jagged back spines (from a previous fight?), so that was kinda cool.

I'll always have a soft spot for the original 1962 battle, but here Godzilla and Kong fight FOUR times, so that's pretty good. And it adds to the Legendary Universe, so I liked that, too.

Too bad the internet spoiled some surprises, but I'm not going to reveal them here.
Also too bad that this version of Godzilla doesn't posses the original's iconic roar, or even a variation of it. That I really miss hearing in a Godzilla movie.

I'd give this a 4 out of 5, but only because it wraps up the storylines that were made to bring these two monsters together (and a year late-- thanks covid!).

Despite having his name first Godzilla feels more like a guest star in the film.

Way too many squishy humans and not enough squishing. Madison and Josh would have improved this film by getting stepped on.

What does it tell you when a teenage girl figures out where Bernie is over any other professional organization looking for him?
Anti-nit: Nobody but Madison was trying to find this guy.

For a conspiracy loon Bernie sure trusts Madison and Josh way too quickly.

They're transporting Kong to Antarctica by ship and Godzilla shows up to fight him. You can really tell how outclassed Kong is before the fight even begins. Kong is having trouble breaking some puny chains, while Godzilla casually destroys 3 battleships without even trying.

So why didn't they try flying Kong to Antarctica originally?

The inner Earth is interesting, but trying to figure how it fits in with the real world boggles the mind.
I could accept it as something like a pocket dimension, but when Godzilla blasted a hole down to it, implies it really is in the center of the world.

Does this mean Kong climbed around four thousand miles to get to the city on the surface.
