When I saw the preview for the remake, I had to see the original, and MAN! When you talk about HORROR, you aren't talking about Chucky or Nightmare on Elm Street or even Scream, you're talking about this! this was an awesome movie! I totally recommend the original and I am definately going to find out whether to recommend the remake. One thing, don't watch this alone or at night...

BJackson, I do recommend the original, but the remake lacks somethng which I cannot put my finger on. The movie only had one real good scare, at least, to me it did. And I do think that this movie is way too long for a Horror flick. If you want to see the Haunting, watch the original.

i have a nit for this movie. after that one chick gets her eye poked out by the piano wire, liam neesan(sp) UNLOCKS the gate and sends them to the hospital. later on when they are trying to escape the house, they attempt to smash open the gate with a car. why not just unlock it?
come to think of it what ever happened to the girl and guy that drove off? i expected them to show up at the end for a cheesy last minute save. instead they simply disappeared. whats up with that?

I also recommend the original, and I'll take it even further. Read the book, THE HAUNTING OF HILL HOUSE, by Shirley Jackson. It is one of the best haunted house books ever written. The opening paragraph alone is worth the cost of the book.

Gee, has it already been almost a whole year now since this film came out? And no one's commented on it since then, till I just did. Well, I thought it was ok but its copycat, House on Haunted Hill, was absolutely awful! I liked the SPFX of The Haunting, but they were too obviously CGI, espec the angelic children. And Catherine Zeta-Jones ...well, need I say more? What a babe!

The 1963 version is much better, IMO. Sticks closer to the original novel.
