The Faculty

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Movies: Thriller/Horror: The Faculty

Hi Some nits I though of
(Spoilers)

1. How did the aliens get to Earth? If they had a space ship, where is it? it is proof for the entire story.

Side Comment - My favorite scene in the movie was the one where there's no money for anything but football - it really gave us the spirit of the highschool.

2. Why did the aliens leave a part of them in the stadium?

3. How much do the humans controled by the aliens retain of their formal selves? Some characters, especially when injuring the Principle, seemed to retain a personnal grudge from the part... but the impression the movie gives us is that they become Zombies.

4. Why was... Stan? beaten up at the beginning?

Spoiler:
5. If the Alien Queen comes Earth, and decides to take over the teachers first, well...
Why is she taking the form of a student?

6. When the alien touches water, it duplicates itself in a few moments. This is a complete violation of physics laws as I understand them. Converting energy to matter works according to Einstein's famous E=MC^2 formula. Regardless to the alien's weight, that's ALOT of energy. Where did it come from?

Big Spoiler
7. when Zeke and the girl we later learn is the alien queen make out, why doesn't she turn him to a zombie?
Big Spoiler
8.A few minutes after that scene, the group confronts the Professor Alien. Had the two aliens with them intervened, the aliens would have won. But then, it would have been a short story.

9. BTW, isn't it just Lucky that the two room where so close, that they could hear each other?

10. When the Policeman goes to the Principle's office, he is supposedly turning to an Alien. Yet he doesn't scream like the others. Why?

11. Don't you admire Zeke's perception? He has the alien kill a mouse, and then he gives a report that sounds something like this:
"This is a parasite. It connects itself to a host. Then it controls it" WOW!!! How did u do that, Sherlock?

12. The Sci-Fi girl should have known that the trick of 'pretending to swell it while you actually don't' has been done millions of times before...

13. I still think that they trust to much the Sci-Fi movies that said that the aliens MUST have a Queen. Personnaly, I think it's a huge risk to bet your life upon.

14. Why did they let the former Football captain go out alone? Especially when they had few of the sticks.

15. I do NOT oppose it. Repeat, I do NOT oppose it, but couldn't the Queen have shifted some close on her skin?

16. How can there 'not be conclusive proof' if the alien Queen is stuck there for all to see, and assuming that everyone tells what happens to them?

Overall, it was a fun movie. Funny and Harmless. A good way to kill time.

Um, I tried to put this exact film up once and the Chief had it removed. I recommend starting your own webpage and put these nits there. Just e-mail me if you need help.

Hi Brian.
Why did the chief remove it?
Thanks for telling me. I 'll puit them in my page and email you
Whoever supervises these boards, if you would for some reason want to remove it, would you mind telling me why?

Cause the chief DID authorise Buffy The Vampire Slayer, and this is VERY similar.
and the MUMY is here, up and running

He thought it was a Scream-ish horror film, and he doesn't allow those. Maybe he'll let it slide this time, seeing as we unanimously agree it's really more of a sci-fi/fantasy picture.

I think because it was supposed to be sci-fi but the producers wanted to market it to a larger genre so they made it kind of a slasher flick. The slasher stuff creates nits though. Take the stabbed teacher at the beginning for example. We see later that the coach has scratches on his face that she gave him. If the possessed humans don't heal any faster than they normally would, why did they repeatedly stab the poor woman? There was no good reason for it. The movie should have stayed with pure sci-fi.
BTW, I don't think this movie is in the same category as Scream. Scream had very malicious and intentional, long drawn-out bloody death scenes. This film only has the one at the beginning that I can remember.

Wondering why the Queen was naked at the end. Because apparently she can only morph into biological substances. The cloths that she was wearing were just regular cloths that she bought at a store. When she first morphs from the teen girl into the big alien you can see that the cloths don't morph but rip to peaces. When I first saw the movie I noticed this and said to myself "please tell me that she turns back into a human." Because I knew that she would either be naked or I would have found a nit in the movie. It's what you call a win/win situation.

Actually, there is some debate as to when (name withheld) was taken over, according to a website. It may have occured before the students got together, during the fight, or in the car.

BTW, did anybody else see this movie after the Cranberries' "Bury the Hatchet" came out? If so, did anybody else start singing "Delilah" when Jordana Brewster's character was introduced?

Reply to #16: The queen dissolved into folgers decaf alien crystals and joe the janitor vacuumed her up.

#7: She was testing the waters for human fun.

#4: Stan is a geek

#1: She didn't get here in a ship, she got here in a dehydrated spore and landed in the ocean/lake whatever.

Who are you talking about? Which post are you responding to.

I was refering to #8 on Omer's list of nits, but the quote didn't print.

4. Why was... Stan? beaten up at the beginning?

That wasn't Stan, it was Casey.

13. I still think that they trust to much the Sci-Fi movies that said that the aliens MUST have a Queen. Personnaly, I think it's a huge risk to bet your life upon.

I know, but it was all they had.

BTW, did anybody notice this: when Mr. Furlong is talking with Nurse Harper in the Faculty Lounge, he says "Maybe I should just stick a pen in my eye." Guess what happens?

Also this: the lead alien is refered to by the students as the "queen bee". Probably a coincidence, the school's football team is called the Hornets.

My theory is that the "invasion" was actually a test for a bigger invasion to see how it might play out. You know, like that episode of "Star Trek:The Next Generation". Unfortunately, she prematurely shot her wad on what was initially supposed to be a dry run and now she has quite a mess on her hands.

Nice to see that Jon Stewart's character made it, even if he is sans an eye and hand.
