Death Becomes Her

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Movies: Miscellaneous Comedy: Death Becomes Her

My nitpicks are as numerically proceeds:
1) Helen Sharp kisses Madeline Ashton on the side of Madeline's face right by her ear not long after their second reunion (i.e., after fourteen years since Ernest Menville wed Madeline Ashton). In the sequential scene displaying the lipstick stain we find that it is now on Madeline's cheek rather than by her ear.
2) Ernest Menville drops the potion, and we definitely hear it shatter. However, Ernest Menville later plummets and crashes through a glass mural. Against what ground had the potion previously shattered?
3) Ernest Menville suffered no external or internal injuries after his twenty-foot or so plunge? Yeah, right.

I enjoyed this movie, but I felt a chill at the end when I thought about those two women spending the past thirty-odd years doing virtually nothing but maintaining their bodies. Makes you wonder about all the (mortal) people who spend so much time dieting, working out, having plastic surgery, skin peels, constant changes of wardrobe, etc, etc, etc. Reminds me of a book I read, where a character comments on men and women who spend so much time working on their looks and showing them off that they don't have time to cultivate anything else. Then, when the natural fading due to age begins, they have nothing to fall back on, and so keep spending their time frantically trying to maintain their facades. Sad.

One of the few roles that Meryl Streep had that she was not nominated for an Oscar. Great scenery chewing between her and Goldie Hawn

To D.K.- Just listen to the press reports re: the women of "Ally Mc Beal", trying to out-diet and out-skinny each other. Definitely unhealthy.
