Yet another reason to buy a DVD player: Eva on DVD. I wonder if I will finally get to see the darn alternate movie ending!

Well, the movie rights have been licensed by... if memory serves... Manga Video. I have heard they are considering a theatrical release, actually... and I'm sure that they'll also release it on VHS, and I would be very surprised if they did not also release it on DVD.

For those who follow the dubbed version (and while I normally prefer subs, I'll admit that I take my Eva dubbed) you'll be pleased to note that Manga has arranged to use the same cast that AD Vision did.

And as for it being yet another reason, well I'll definitely be needing a DVD player, anyway, as I've preordered Urusei Yatsura and the original Macross on DVD... but as for a player, I'm going to take advantage of that wonderful PS2 thingy coming out later this year...

Don't trust in the PSX2 quite yet. Still too many bugs in the thing for my taste. Perhaps Sony will fix them before the machine starts shipping in the US, perhaps not. I never buy any system until it's been out for at least a year, just to make absolutely certain that all the problems have been worked out. And by Fall, 2001, DVD players will be dirt cheap, and I hate PSX, so there's no reason for me to get a PSX2.

But take it to my Console Video Games board... although I guess I started it.

Personally, I'm holding out for DVD-RAM, but what do I know? I can barely walk down the hall without bumping into myself, so it's not as if videogames are at the top of my list.

What I wonder about is, if the beauty of DVD is the great enormity of other stuff you can stick on the disc, what extras will there be? Commentary? Interviews? Or will it be high-quality shovelware? Having multiple languages on one disk makes life easier for them, not me. I want my DVD extras!

Darnit!

Well, Matt... (That's Matt Patterson, not me. I do sometimes talk to myself, I'll admit, but posting to myself on a message board would be strange even for me!) Um... where was I?

Ah, yes. Well, Matt. Personally, I'm buying the PS2 because I want the PS2. I enjoyed the PSX, and I think the PS2 looks quite interesting. You are entitled to dislike the PSX all you want, that's your business. (Although as moderator of the Console Video Games board, it would be nicer if you had more of an open mind on such matters, or at least tried to maintain a neutral stance.)

Personally, there's no console that I hate. I'm sticking with Sony only because being an Otaku can be quite expensive. The anime habit, combined with the video game habit, really takes a lot. I can't afford more then one console. And with the PS2, I can still keep it down to one. I'll be able to get rid of my original PSX. (Space is also a reason I like to have only one console... what, with all the anime tapes and manga cluttering things up so...) And, I'll still be able to play all of my old PSX games on the PS2, definitely something I see as an advantage.

The DVD playing ability I see strictly as an added bonus. If the PS2 didn't play DVDs, I would have bought a separate player. However, since it does play DVDs, it has saved me the money I would have spent on a separate player. Even if the player was "dirt cheep" as you said they'd be by Fall 2001 (and I don't think I can wait that long, it'll be hard enough waiting until the PS2 later this year) that's still money that I won't have to spend now, thanks to the PS2.

Wow, this is a bit of a long post that, if one was to look at it objectively, has absolutely nothing to do with Evangelion. If anyone else does this, they will be hunted down and shot. So why do I get to do this, you ask? Simple. I am the moderator, and I reserve the right to be hypocritical. I HAVE THE POWER! YOU WILL ALL BOW BEFORE ME! MWA HA HA HA HA!!!!

Oh dear, terribly sorry. I temporarily misplaced my sanity... If you'll excuse me, the rather nice men in the white jackets have come in their van to bring me back to the Happy Happy Institute for the Not At All Terribly Well. Good day.

I'm just a hard-liner who misses the days of the NES and SNES, when people could actually innovate and didn't keep churning out clones of games they'd done before. (Note to Square: 11 Final Fantasies is about 5 too many. Make one "Final," d***it!) It seems to me that most of the games on the PSX are geared toward making a quick buck and appealing to the mass market, rather than trying new things and pushing the limits of videogame design. I'd like to have a PSX just for completeness' sake, but I'm not going to run out and buy a PSX2 just cause. So far, there's no compelling reason for me to buy one. (Okay, maybe the massive amount of RPGs. But I'm having enough trouble getting through the great ones on the SNES. I don't really need any more piling up.)

Of course, it would be nice to have an excuse to buy the Utena Rose Collection DVD... as well as the EVA DVDs... and the Fushigi Yuugi DVDs... and the SM movie DVDs... and anything Tenchi... and whatever else that they'll sell me. Really, I need to cut down.

I have the Plantinum Edition Vol.3 in my collection(small as it is right now,I only have a grand total of 23 DVDs so far). One of the things it comes with is a commentary track by Tiffany Grant and a couple others.
