I figured that if anything was worth putting up, this was: ADV Films has acquired the rights to make a live action motion picture version of Evangelion. Gainax is suposed to be involved with the production somehow, but I have no idea exactly how much input they've got. However, it is known that Weta Workshop Ltd. (the guys behind Lord of the Rings) will be doing the special efects. Newtype has an article on it in the July issue (vol. 7 #2), but being Newtype, there's not really any more "news" to be found there than what I put up here.
The rumor mills (as well as Play Magazine) say that Halley Joel Osmond is in like for Shinji's part. Seems unlikely, as that would require moving the story from Japan and I doubt Gainax would go along with that. Interestingly, though, I've hears several Otaku (including one fellow who wrote to Newtype) who seemed repulced at the thought of the kid comming near the project simply because he was too "mainstream". Given the merchandizing machine that's been built around Evangelion, isn't that slightly ridiculous?
Newtype says that there'll be stuff on the movie on the Director's Cut DVD.
Yes, there's about a half hour interview with the folk at Weta Digital. At least, this is what I hear. As much as I love Eva, at this point I can't justify spending $20 - $30 each on two discs of episodes I sort of already have. (On the other hand, if ADV had just put all of the DC episodes on one disc, I would have been the first in line.)
Of course, then there probobly wouldn't have been room for any extras like the interview
