Genesis 0:11

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Neon Genesis Evangelion: Genesis 0:11
Episode 21: The Birth Of NERV -- He was aware that he was still a child.
Episode 22: At Least, Be Humane -- Don’t be.

The secret workings of NERV begin to become clear as SEELE mercilessly interrogates NERV's key personnel in a ruthless bid to uncover Gendo Ikari's real agenda. An unexpected interloper works to sabotage their plans while the real truth behind the origin of NERV and the Evangelions begins to become clear. Asuka's self confidence takes yet another beating as she comes under pressure from Ritsuko following her latest set of poor synchronisation results. Her synchronisation ratio hits rock bottom and at the worst possible moment as the fifteenth Angel, Arael, shows up in high orbit. Despite Misato's orders, Asuka takes up the point position in Unit 02 with Unit 00 as backup, determined not to fail yet again. NERV's plan is it to snipe the Angel with a positron rifle as soon as it enters Unit 02's range, but this is quickly amended as the Angel psychically attacks Asuka's mind crippling Unit 02.

Episode 21: Another tough episode to nitpick, but I've got one beef with pretty much the entire episode: who is telling all this stuff? Fuyutsuki? He's teh one being questioned, but why would he be talking about Ritsuko's corespondance with her Mother? Given the circumstances of Mom's death, I guess one could argue that he read the letters as part of an investigation, but it still seems odd that he's talking about events he wasn't there to witness

Every time they show up, I always wonder if it counts as a nit that The Magi's names never actually show up in scripture anywere; but I always decide that it's not worth mentioning, seeing how little of the "Christian" imagry in general actually comes from orthodox Christianity.

Anybody want to venture an oppinion on what (or, more acurately, who) happened to Kaji?

Episode 22:

At the begining of the episode, young Auska is running down a hallway shouting that she's an Eva pilot now, and that she'll only tell her even though she's not supposed to tell anyone. Well, if that's the case, WHY IS SHE SHOUTING IT AT THE TOP OF HER LITTLE LUNGS FOR EVERYONE TO HEAR?

Speaking of which, Auska says that everyone is nice to her now, who is "everyone" and how did THEY find out? (easy, they were standing within a mile of the hall and hear Auska shouting)

Why are none of the children at school, all they're doing is sync tests, surely those can be aranged to happen after class. And why would they even bother testing Shinji? Remember, they're dead set on keeping Unit 01 in stasis at this point. Even when the rest kids are commenting on the pilots' absence, we see Shinji just laying around doing nothing. Why can't they at least make HIM go to school?

Speaking of which, those kids seem to be at school a little late.

Maybe they needed to keep this whole thing top secret, but it still strikes me as odd that Auska didn't know about Kaji's fate.

Oops, forgot one for Episode 21: Did Ritsuko's Mom actually kill Rei? It certainly looks like she did, but that would make some problems in episode 23. Let's count: the flashbacks sho Rei number one. If that Rei dies, then it means that the Rei introduced at the begining of the show is Rei number two. However, I was under the impression THAT Rei dies making that suicide attack carying an N2 mine (help! I forgot which episode that is!) That would eman that the following episodes feature Rei the third, the Rei that dies in episode 23. But the Rei that replaces THAT Rei calls herself "the third one". No, if we count Rei like I just did, she becomes the FOURTH, right? I can think of a few ways to argue that way, but i'll save them for episode 23.

More I forgot, this time for Episode 22:

Okay, Lance of Longinuss. What the heck does it do, why does NERV have it, and what did SEELE want to do with it? (I know what the Lance of Longinuss is as far as the English folklore and it's adaption by the mideval church, but as I've commented elsewhere, that would seem to be of little use when it comes to Eva)

GAH! Forgot ANOTHER ONE!

At the end of the episode, they say that the Lance has settled into lunar orbit. But, unless I was REALLY not paying attention (and the last time I saw this ep was pretty late at night, so that may be the case), that's the Earth the lance is right above. (it gets its act together and and is in the right place by the next episode)

It seems that both Asuka and Shinji have parental issues if we can go by what is shown in At Least Be Humane-Don't of Asuka's pre-Evangelion background.

Misato tries to soften Asuka's problem with synchronization in the ep. by saying she's having her period, which is confirmed later on when we see
Asuka alone in the rest room.
However it shouldn't have mattered wheter or not Asuka was going through her menstrual cycle,as Ritsuko pointed out.
I mean both she and Rei probably had to go through
the synchonization tests previously to that when either or both of them were in their periods.

Hormones aside,Asuka is the type of person that feels they have to be the best all the time which explains why she's continuously sniping at both Rei and Shinji and the occasional agrument with Misato.
She needs to be better than anyone, but since she is not as talented a pilot as either Shinji or Rei
it means she is always hiding how she feels by insulting and sniping at others.

I don't think she really meant she hates everyone when she snipes at Shinji in the last scene.I think she was mad at herself for failing again and Shinji was just the person avaible to be the catspaw.
