The Adventure of the Naval Treaty

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Sherlock Holmes: The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes: The Adventure of the Naval Treaty
PLOT SUMMARY: A frantic Percy Phelps comes to Holmes desperate for his help in saving his reputation and career. An important top-secret military document entrusted to Phelps' care has inexplicably vanished within the space of a few moments when he left it in his study.

NITS:
At the beginning of this story, Watson tells us that it occurs in the same month as "The Adventure of the Second Stain". Yet the way he describes the case is completely at odds with "The Adventure of the Second Stain" published by Doyle in later years. Characters and events are alluded to which do not appear in that story, and in "The Adventure of the Second Stain" Watson takes great pains to conceal the date, wheras here he thinks nothing of giving it. Also, in "The Adventure of the Second Stain" Watson seems to be living with Holmes, when if it did indeed occur in the same month as "stockbroker's Clerk" Watson would have been married.
