I know this isn't a forum for the Granada series, but anyone who likes 'Illustrious Client' shouldn't miss this lively episode. Kitty Winter and 'Porky' Rafferty are especially well brought to life.
Another reason to enjoy this story - both on film and in print - is Watson's nice turn as legman while Holmes is confined to his room. He was quite capable of resourceful action if not brilliance, and for once Holmes is properly appreciative (or at least he doesn't complain).
Man, what was with ACD and his women named "Violet"? Was it just a rally common name during that era?
Yes, according to the Annotated Holmes, and it may also have been a specific favourite of ACD's.
(Bearing in mind that this was an era in which women were also frequently named things like Prudence, Clementina and Ottilie, it may also have been simply the first short and handy name that occurred to him...)
