Beast Wars vs. Beast Machines

Is there anyone who feels Beast Machines is a better show?

BM was an interesting idea, but not a great series. I will give the animators credit for trying to make the characters not look more human, however. Black Arachnia no longer looks like a male sex fantasy. (At least, not the fantasy of any male I know.)

No, BW was more hopeful, brighter looking & fun. BM is depressing, colored too darkly &... preachy. Don't really care for the psuedo-zen stuff. As a villain Megatron has become really boring.

I have to say that so far I like Beast Wars better, but then again Beast Wars took a while to grow on me. I find Beast Machines biggest problem is that it is too fast paced and disjointed, with too little actually happening. Still BM is not a bad show and has its moments.

Yours Truly,

I'm definitely with ya on the pseudo-Zen/Captain Planet idiocy. And whaddaya mean the characters don't look more human? Optimus looks like Bill Cosby. Blackarachnia looks VERY much like a human female (and call me weird, but I actually think her new face is very attractive. The large, luminous eyes are very pretty), and Rattrap and Nightscream have very humanlike faces as well. Cheetor's really the only one with a sort of "beastlike" face. Myself, though, I'd rather they have emphasized the "Machine" part in their robot mode. And I miss the Optimus Helmet. I will say that the animation has improved in leaps and bounds, though.

Personaly I like Beast Machines better. Ok it can be rather blatent in its hints at morals and such (IE "The weak component" had to have the worst example of this) but over all from what I've seen of BM I like it a whole lot better.
Admittedly I've only seen shreds of the first season of BW because here in the UK they treated BW much like they do Star Trek and others, Ie they don't show it. I have had to resort to d/ling the episodes in Real format from a couple of the sites I know (If any kind person has eps 1 & 2 please e-mail me) but I have found that BM is much more of a "Grown Up" program much like the TF original series and not like the sometimes too "cartoony" parts of BW. I also like almost all the new bodies both robot and beast (with the exception of Rattraps Robot mode, what /were/ they thinking)with Cheetor being a paticular favourite of mine.......

I've purposely waited a bit before chiming in on this (which is completely out of character, I know). I'd say I like them both. One problem I had in the beginning of Beast Machines was what I like to think of as the Dragonball Z effect. It took BM forever to get to the stinking plot! My brother and I would describe an episode one or the other had missed as: "Today on Beast Machines, the Maximals ran away from the Vehicons. Tune in tomorrow, when the Maximals run away from the Vehicons!" What next, taking an entire episode to not build up to the fight between Gokyu and the villian?

Now that they've actually got a story going, I'm hooked by Beast Machines. I've been catching up with re-runs of Beast Wars, and I think they're both equally well made. Beast, Wars, however, had the advantage of getting. To. The. Bloody. Point. Immediately.

I do wonder when or if Beast Machines will introduce new characters. Hasbro must be at least a little interested in moving new product.

Beast Machines Season 2 seems pretty good so far.

But does anyone else hate Nightscream as much as
I do?

By Keith Alan Morgan on Monday, March 13, 2000 - 10:18 pm:

I like Nightscream better than the new Cheetor. Come to think of it, Nightscream is the old Cheetor. Naive, somewhat impulsive, occasionally worsens a situation because of that.

Can't stand what they did to Rattrap. From the confident, cocky character whom Optimus chose to be second in command, to a whiny, little, weakened character.

Does anyone like what they did to Rhinox?

I'm hoping to see a permanent return of Waspinator's personality in Season 2.

I agree...I hope Waspinator returns soon.

"Noooooo! Doggybot not here!"

I guess with Megatron's death, Waspinator is the only surviving Predicon from Beast Wars
