A special 25th anniversary DVD release of The Golden Girls will be released 11/9/10. It includes every episode of the series' seven year run, plus numerous extras. It does not include the short-lived follow-up series Golden Palace. More here. (I still regret blowing off a taping of the series when I was in L.A. back in 1985. It doubtless would have been a lot of fun, especially seeing a young[er] Betty White.)

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Thursday, September 09, 2010 - 7:42 am:

The first season of the original Twilight Zone comes to Blu-Ray this Tuesday, September 14. Here's some interesting clips, provided by TV Shows On DVD.com. The first two are Rod Serling's pitches to the sponsors of the show. Take note of the second screen. It has the original opening of the pilot, "Where Is Everybody", with Twilight Zone in a different font, and narration by Westbrook Van Voorhies, the man first hired to narrate the series. I don't know how you feel, but listening to Van Voorhies makes me glad that Serling chose to do the narration himself.

Gene Roddenberry's 1963 series The Lieutenant, which starred Gary Lockwood, is reported to be readied for a 2011 release, through Warner Archive's MOD program. More here.

By AMR on Monday, November 15, 2010 - 7:43 am:

I would like to see the complete series of the animated "The Goode Family" get a DVD release. It was on ABC last year and was cancelled due to low ratings. I wonder how many episodes there were.

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Tuesday, December 07, 2010 - 2:26 pm:

The Fugitive, Season 4, Vol. 2, will finally go on sale 2/15/11. This set contains the blockbuster final episode, "The Judgment." More here. (The set also contains a featurette on composer Dominic Frontiere, whose name was misspelled in the "TV Shows On DVD" article.)

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Friday, December 10, 2010 - 9:55 am:

Season One of Space: 1999 will be released on Blu-Ray this Tuesday, December 14. The list price ($100) is a bit steep (especially when you consider that the DVD mega-set of the whole series goes for less than $50 now), but there are a lot of extras. More here. (Wonder if you'll be able to see Martin Landau's toupee line, now that there's a hi-def release? )

The smelly cartoon series of "Gilligan's Planet" is coming to DVD

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Thursday, January 13, 2011 - 7:13 am:

Warner Archive, Warner's "MOD" service, plans to release the Logan's Run series, possibly this year. More here. IMHO, the series was so-so. David Gerrold wrote "Man Out Of Time", which I think is the series best episode. Gerrold didn't have much good to say about it, though, blasting the series in Starlog and using the pseudonym "Noah Ward." ("David Gerrold" itself is an adopted name; his real name is Jerrold Freedman.)

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Thursday, February 24, 2011 - 2:06 pm:

The Bionic Woman, Season Two, will be released by Universal on May 17, 2011. More on that, including an NBC-Universal press release, and the package art, here. (Tell whoever wrote that press release that Lee Majors was not her co-star; he only appeared in a few episodes that crossed over with The Six Million Dollar Man.)

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Wednesday, March 02, 2011 - 10:05 am:

TNT's so-so cop show Rizzoli and Isles will be out on DVD this June 28. It's a bit pricey - $40 for just 10 episodes (which have been run so much lately that show fans may see no need for the DVD set.) More here.

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 - 1:08 pm:

Good Riddance Dept.: The 15th and final season of ER will be out this July 12. I went from a loyal viewer of the series to hating it almost overnight, and have no idea how the producers ended the show. More here.

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Monday, April 04, 2011 - 9:58 am:

The seventh season (the current one) of Grey's Anatomy will be in stores on 9/13/11. That includes the episode "This Is How We Do It", which had Marina Sirtis as a guest star. I watched the first five or so minutes of the episode. I didn't think much of it, probably because it's the first episode of the series I've seen, and I have no clue what's going on. I'm not sure I'll even watch the rest of the episode. More here.

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Tuesday, April 05, 2011 - 1:11 pm:

Three different DVD collections of "The Best Of The Dean Martin Variety Show" will be available from Time-Life on 5/24/11. TV Shows on DVD.com has the press release, with names of guest stars featured in the show, here. Note that fellow Rat Packer Frank Sinatra is not listed.

By Gordon Lawyer (Glawyer) on Wednesday, April 06, 2011 - 5:19 am:

Ever wondered what the TV series Supernatural would be like if Dean and Sam had disproportionately huge eyes and said, "Hai!" a lot? You'll find out July 26 when an anime adaptation produced by Madhouse (Trigun, Black Lagoon) arrives on these shores on DVD and Blu-Ray.

Season One (26 episodes) of Rocko's Modern Life will hit DVD this June 21. This was one of my son's favorite shows when he was younger. However, I think Sponge Bob is more off the wall, and funnier. More here.

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Tuesday, May 31, 2011 - 11:36 am:

The 1987 TV movie The Jetsons Meet The Flintstones will be available from the Warner Archive this June 14. More here.
The whole movie is a nit, as (IIRC) in one of the original Jetsons episodes, Elroy viewed part of a Flintstones episode on his friend's wrist TV during school. And got chewed out by the teacher for doing it.

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Monday, June 13, 2011 - 12:32 pm:

Twilight Zone, Season 5, comes to Blu-Ray this August 30. More here. There is a packaging nit here, as the show was called just Twilight Zone; the The from the title was dropped for the fourth and fifth seasons.

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Thursday, June 16, 2011 - 2:02 pm:

Who loves ya, baby? Shout Factory, that's who. They're releasing season two of Kojak, six years after Universal put out season one. (Personally, I hope they get to the fourth season, as that was the only one that was filmed entirely in New York.) More here.

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Wednesday, July 06, 2011 - 8:03 am:

In addition to the Guthy Renker infomercials, Time-Life is now selling DVDs of "The Best Of The Dean Martin Show." But, where Guthy Renker seems to be selling it by subscription, Time-Life is selling one six-DVD set. Read a list of the guest stars he had on the show here. Over the years, it seems like he had everyone in show business on his show. Well, everyone except Jerry Lewis.

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Thursday, July 14, 2011 - 10:03 am:

The second (and last) season (10 episodes) of the revival of V will be out on DVD and Blu-Ray 10/18/11. The Blu-Ray consists of just two discs, and is quite pricey at $49.99 SRP. More here.

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Thursday, July 14, 2011 - 2:19 pm:

Shout! Factory has picked up the licensing rights to Barney Miller from Sony, and will release the entire series in one set this October. Lots of extras abound, including the first season of the spinoff Fish. The Miller release will have an SRP of $160. More here. Now, if Shout would only pick up the rights to my beloved Once and Again, and release the third season...

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Monday, July 25, 2011 - 2:23 pm:

The Roseanne Halloween shows were usually among the series' best and funniest. On September 27, Mill Creek will release all eight in one DVD set. And, at a great price - $5.98. More here.

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Monday, August 01, 2011 - 10:53 am:

This is cool. A disc titled Beavis and Butt-Head: Mike Judge's Most Wanted will hit stores on October 4. Just in time for new episodes of B&B, which will return to MTV that same month. More here.

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Monday, August 01, 2011 - 11:05 am:

Also on October 4, Universal will release season three of The Bionic Woman. This is the season that ran on NBC after ABC cancelled it; NBC cancelled the show after its third season. For some reason, there were no Six Million Dollar Man crossovers (I think the network prohibited it) but Richard Anderson continued to appear as Oscar Goldman on both shows. More here.

By ScottN on Monday, August 01, 2011 - 11:36 am:

Shouldn't that be, "Oscar Goldman, OSI"?

I don't ever recall his full name being used without the agency appended.

By Luigi Novi (Luigi_novi) on Monday, August 01, 2011 - 6:47 pm:

Yes! I LOVED B&B when I was in my early twenties. Hell, I've been thinking of them recently, as I find myself saying things like "He said 69--uh...uh huh-huh-huh-huh." It's like I'm making retro jokes, or something. And now they're coming back! :-)

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Tuesday, August 02, 2011 - 7:39 am:

quote:

Yes! I LOVED B&B when I was in my early twenties...

I was in my early forties when MTV aired the show, and I loved it too. It was the only thing I would watch on MTV. Which went from good to wretched over the years; with shows like Jersey Shore and Teen Mom, now it may be the most unwatchable channel in the TV universe. I laughed (embarassingly) for days at the episode where Beavis and Butt-Head were forbidden to do their laugh. And, the teacher with the crew cut threw at them every word that they laugh at. Heck, during the recent Anthony Weiner sexting scandal, every time a newscaster mentioned his name, I'd think to myself "He said 'Weiner.' Uh...uh huh huh huh. Heh heh heh."
OT a bit, but...Speaking of MTV, the channel ignored its own 30th anniversary yesterday. Sister channel VH-1 Classic took that task on. It even rebroadcast MTV's first hour of programming at midnight on 8/1/2011.

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Thursday, August 11, 2011 - 9:14 am:

Image Entertainment will release both seasons of Crime Story, which was executive produced by Michael Mann, on November 15. The price for the complete series, which ran on NBC from 1986-88, is $29.98. Check it out here, especially for a shot of a young(er) Dennis Farina, who played cop Mike Torello for both seasons.

By John A. Lang (Johnalang) on Thursday, August 11, 2011 - 5:22 pm:

I've given up on the release of some of my favorites. I'm seriously thinking of asking to be removed from "TVSHOWSONDVD.COM"

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Thursday, August 18, 2011 - 9:20 am:

I've kind of given up on the release of season three of my beloved Once and Again. It's been almost six years since ABC/Disney jerked me, and the show's other fans, around with the announcement that they're releasing it, then recanting days later. Lions Gate bought the rights to some of ABC's abandoned shows, and they're re-releasing and completing Boy Meets World. Not a peep about O&A, however, in all this time.

Some good news, that I've also posted on the "Crime and Justice Shows" board: The entire series - 20 seasons - of Law & Order will be released on DVD this November 8. The list price ($700) seems a bit steep, but just look at the content. Also, imagine the shelf space necessary to hold it all. More on that here. (Note that there's no indication of whether or not 1998's Exiled TV movie will be included. And, extras seem minimal, especially in the later seasons.)

By Gordon Lawyer (Glawyer) on Friday, August 19, 2011 - 5:36 am:

That averages $35 a season, so it's not that unreasonable. The real question is how good the packaging will be. If you look at some of the reviews on TVShowOnDVD.com, many of these Complete Series collections have dodgy packaging which can scratch up the discs easily.

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Saturday, August 20, 2011 - 1:52 pm:

And, here's a look at the outside packaging of the Law & Order series set. As Gordon implied above, it's what's inside that counts. Notice that Sam Waterston is the cast member most prominently featured; he has 368 episodes under his belt. But - S. Epatha Merkerson was the longest running cast member, with 391 episodes (one as the mother of a murdered child, and 390 as Lt. Anita Van Buren. Also, I assume that Michael Moriarty, Richard Brooks, George Dzundza, Carey Lowell, Jill Hennessy, Jessie Martin, Dennis Farina, Milena Govich, Steven Hill, Annie Parisse, Dann Florek and Paul Sorvino are on there somewhere. And, apparently it doesn't include Exiled. It does include the three Homicide crossovers, though. ) Amazon has the set listed for $490.
Ya know, assuming I find the space, I just might go for this. Especially for the older episodes, as TNT seldom runs them.

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Friday, September 09, 2011 - 7:05 am:

The 1970's version of The Invisible Man, starring David McCallum, is being released on October 25 by Canada's VEI, Inc. (Why not Universal, who produced the series?) More here. (I had such a crush on Melinda Fee, the actress who played McCallum's wife. IIRC, she appeared on some Match Game episodes in the mid-70s.)

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Thursday, September 15, 2011 - 8:48 am:

Here's a look at the inside and outside of the Law & Order series package. There's a difference with what was originally posted, though - Jill Hennessy is more prominently featured; she replaces Angie Harmon on the package front.
My friend Pete tells me that if I want to get this set, order it soon, as large sets like this tend to go out-of-print quickly. Can anyone verify that?

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Tuesday, November 15, 2011 - 8:24 am:

Somebody must have found the episodes, because Julie Newmar's mid-60's series My Living Doll is (tentatively) set for a DVD release on February 28, 2012. (They're releasing it as the dreaded "Volume 1" and "Volume 2." The series had only one season, with 26 episodes. Release the entire series in one set, for cryin' out loud!!) As I wrote elsewhere in this topic, I loved the show as a kid, and I hope the extras get into the backstage drama over Bob Cummings' quitting. (Cummings and Newmar hated each other from the get-go. They fought constantly, and with five or six episodes left to film, Cummings walked off the set and never came back.) More on the release here.

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Tuesday, November 15, 2011 - 2:15 pm:

That doesn't seem to be the case here, as the review from TVShowsOnDVD.com states. They say the set is "99% there." Now, if somebody has an extra $450 burning a hole in their pocket...

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Tuesday, December 20, 2011 - 7:38 am:

The short-lived 1977 series Logan's Run will be released by Warner's in a three-disc set on 4/10/12. More, including package art, here. (A nit on the package art - the picture, at least that of Gregory Harrison's Logan, is reversed.)

By Kevin (Kevin) on Tuesday, December 20, 2011 - 2:49 pm:

I loved the show at the time, but I find it very doubtful that I would now. I'm not going to get it to find out.

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 - 7:18 am:

I might, if the price is right (meaning $15 or less at some point; Amazon's pre-order price is $36.) I missed the last episode CBS aired in December, 1977. I had a job in A&S, and I had to work that night.

CBS DVD is releasing sampler discs (titled "Fan Favorites") of older shows such as The Honeymooners, The Odd Couple, Frasier, Happy Days (a big razzie to the last show named) and Cheers on March 6. More info here. (That Cheers package seems to have both Shelley Long and Kirstie Alley. The late Nicholas Colasanto is missing; his image should have been put on the set as well.)

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Tuesday, January 03, 2012 - 12:35 pm:

The My Living Doll, Vol. 1 set, has had its release pushed back three weeks, to March 20. More, including artwork, here. (Look at the faces of Newmar and Cummings on the package; I doubt that they were as cordial to each other as the artwork suggests.)

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Friday, January 06, 2012 - 2:22 pm:

The third and last season of Night Gallery will be released in a 2-disc DVD set on April 10. Here's the artwork. Serling's appearance on the package is closer to the way he looked on The Twilight Zone; his hair was a bit longer during his days hosting Night Gallery, and his suit and tie are more early-1960s style.

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 - 7:40 am:

Scott, you'll get more of The Angry Beavers on February 28, when Shout releases Season Three, Part One. (I still hate that split season nonsense. They should release the entire season at once.) More on that here.

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Wednesday, February 01, 2012 - 1:03 pm:

For Dark Shadows fans (I wasn't one of them, but I can see the appeal, as I liked the 1991 NBC revival), the entire series (1225 episodes) will be released this April 10. In one massive set that gives the Law & Order series set a run for its (and your) money. More here.

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Monday, February 13, 2012 - 8:06 am:

A complete series set of Route 66 will be offered by Shout Factory on their website April 22, and from Amazon a month later. It includes a feature on the Corvette. The list price is $130 for 24 DVDs. More here.

By Todd M. Pence (Tpence) on Tuesday, February 14, 2012 - 2:10 pm:

This is the DVD release I've been waiting for forever - and the cheapness of the price is staggering. Hopefully this new company will not use the crappy prints released by Roxbury/Infinity in their amateurish release of the series. This is truly great news and cause for celebration.

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 - 7:20 am:

Todd, I think you have nothing to worry about. Shout seems to put a lot of care into their DVD releases. So far, they've released (to name a few), thirtysomething, The Angry Beavers and the original Kojak.
Speaking of our favorite lollipop-eating NYPD detective, the fourth season of Kojak, the only season of the series that was shot entirely in New York City, will be released (by Shout) on May 1. More, including artwork, here. (Jeez, those '70s shirts had really big collars, and the neckties were so wide. )

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Friday, March 02, 2012 - 12:03 pm:

Here's the extras that are going into Shout's upcoming Route 66 set. That feature on the Corvette sounds interesting. Especially if you've ever seen a '53 Corvette (the first produced, for the uninitiated.) I have, and compared to the current models, it looks crude. All '53 Vettes (there were 300 made) were white fiberglass, with a black top, red interior and two-speed Powerglide transmission.

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Monday, March 26, 2012 - 8:51 am:

This, I think, borders on ridiculous - ABC has already announced the DVD release of Missing, its series that stars Ashley Judd. ABC has only aired an episode or two, but I guess it feels that a DVD release is worthwhile. Meantime, that same network has stalled on the release of season three of Once and Again for more than six years now. More here. (ABC has also announced DVD releases for their series GCB and Scandal, the latter still has yet to premiere.)

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 - 9:16 am:

This is even more ridiculous: After she was "lost in space," but before she got "hung-over," Heather Graham starred in a series titled Emily's Reasons Why Not. ABC aired one episode and cancelled the show soon after it aired. Yet, Sony will release all seven filmed episodes as an MOD DVD set. Let's see if it sells. More here.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Thursday, April 26, 2012 - 5:38 am:

The short-lived 1977 series Logan's Run will be released by Warner's in a three-disc set on 4/10/12.

I remember this show and got the DVD's. It holds up pretty well for a show made 35 years ago.

By Todd M. Pence (Tpence) on Sunday, April 29, 2012 - 6:28 pm:

>Todd, I think you have nothing to worry about.

Unfortunately, it turns out that I do. Shout Factory has royally screwed all Route 66 fans, by simply recycling Infinity's subpar product. The producer of the release, Brian Ward, in the months preceding the release of the set, gushed about the job he was doing with the series, about how he was going through multiple sources to obtain the best possible material for release. When fans directly questioned Ward about Infinity's use of a syndicated episode, Ward responded that his team would make sure that all the episodes would have their complete original running time. He then vanished (ducked?) from the forums. Now that the Route 66 set is released, absolutely nothing has changed, including the use of a syndicated print for the episode "A Fury Slinging Flame". It turns out Ward has an EXTENSIVE history of lying to fans about upcoming DVD releases, telling them everything they want to hear (and which ofttimes turns out to be just not so). Shout Factory has proven itself to be just as cheap, decitful, lazy and unethical as Infinity.

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Monday, April 30, 2012 - 8:11 am:

Todd, I apologize for being so presumptous. Shout had a good reputation to maintain, and I didn't think they'd tarnish it with a substandard release. Especially going so far, and so lazy, as to recycle someone else's substandard release. Looks like I was wrong (that wouldn't be the first time. ) That DVD producer sounds like a real cad. Maybe if they hired Paul Brownstein, who did such a great job with the Get Smart set, it would have turned out better. All I can say is complain to Shout Factory big time. Also, contact Dave and Gord at TV Shows on DVD.com. Maybe they have some influence, or at least will post your concerns on the website, for all to see.

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Wednesday, May 02, 2012 - 9:27 am:

The only show my then-wife and I would watch together, the trash-fest par excellence Melrose Place, completes its DVD run on July 31, with the release of Season Seven, Vols. 1 and 2. (I still hate that nonsense, especially since this series was first released with full-season sets; they went to half-seasons for Season Five onward.) More, including artwork, here.

By Gordon Lawyer (Glawyer) on Friday, June 08, 2012 - 6:54 am:

For those frustrated over the legal tangle that prevents the campy Batman TV series with Adam West and Burt Ward from getting a DVD release, there is some hope. However it's far from certain.

Fox's short run (13 episodes) series Alcatraz, which was executive produced by J.J. Abrams, is set for a DVD/Blu-Ray release this October 16. The series last episode contained a bang-up car chase through the streets of San Francisco, as well as a cliffhanger ending. More, including artwork, here.

By Andre Reichenbacher (Amr) on Thursday, June 14, 2012 - 2:08 pm:

"This is even more ridiculous: After she was "lost in space," but before she got "hung-over," Heather Graham starred in a series titled Emily's Reasons Why Not. Guess what, Adam. I am actually interested in this! I would like to see for myself just why this show was cancelled after one episode. I read it was because they were incapable of realistically portraying a virgin/chaste person. Or something like that. Also it was said that the show relied on outdated stereotypes of various minorities. Thats too bad. Anyway, I will be checking this out at some point!

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Friday, June 15, 2012 - 8:21 am:

It's your money, Andre, you can do what you want with it. I wasn't commenting on the quality or content of Emily's Reasons Why Not. Which are unknowns to me. Rather, I was commenting on the fact that a show cancelled after one episode gets a DVD release, but a series with a dedicated fan base, like my beloved Once and Again, still has an incomplete DVD release a decade after it was cancelled. But, that wasn't the first show cancelled after one episode. I'd love to see a DVD release of Turn-On, ABC's infamous sketch-comedy flop from 1969. The ABC affiliate in Cleveland dropped the show 11 minutes into the premiere. The feedback was so negative that ABC had no choice but to drop the show after the first episode. Read a description of the skits on the first episode here. Back in 1969, a lot of it would have gone over my head, but now, I would find most of it quite funny.

By Andre Reichenbacher (Amr) on Friday, June 15, 2012 - 10:48 am:

I have read the Wikipedia article on "Turn-On". Some of the humor went over my head, that's for sure, but some of it was pretty funny. And yes, it was included in both my beloved "100 Dumbest Events In TV History" book, as well as the 2002 TV Guide article "The 50 Worst Shows Of All Time". After that, I had to learn more about it.

I think some of the jokes on the *one* Turn-On episode were ahead of their time, in a way. A lot of them would not be considered a big deal today, I think. A lot of sexually-oriented humor, yes, and the line TARZAN SWINGS WITH CHEETAH is still a bit iffy, I admit, but most of the rest of it could be used on today's comedy shows. I too would like to see it be released on DVD. But how likely is that, I wonder?

As for your beloved series that has yet to have a complete series DVD release, I have to say I dont get why they can't or won't do it. I hope that they will eventually so that you can finish your collection. Some of the shows that do get released are real head-scratchers, that's for sure. Good luck!

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Tuesday, July 17, 2012 - 11:43 am:

The complete series (115 episodes) of Blake Edwards' Peter Gunn will be released on October 23. This series had one of the coolest themes ever, a classic music cue by the great Henry Mancini. In fact, a soundtrack CD is included with the DVD release. More, including artwork, here. (A nit - the picture of Craig Stevens on the DVD cover is reversed.)

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Tuesday, August 14, 2012 - 8:56 am:

The Lieutenant, Gene Roddenberry's series before Star Trek, became available today, from the Warner Archive MOD program. It's split into two parts (Why? There were only 29 episodes) and each part is a bit pricey, at $39.95. More here.

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Friday, December 07, 2012 - 9:35 am:

If you want 73 minutes of pure torture, here's one way - Warner Archive will release the 1974 Wonder Woman pilot, with Cathy Lee Crosby as the title character, on 12/11/12. Be forewarned - despite the presence of Ricardo Montalban, the script by Trek scribe John D.F. Black and direction by Trek vet Vincent McEveety, it's really awful. Really. More here.

That one, unfornately.

And, as expected, it is included in my beloved "What Were They Thinking?: 100 Dumbest Events In TV History" book. And the author added "At least they got the bracelets right."

Did they? I wouldn't know! I'll take your word on how bad this is, Adam, as you are usually right on the money about these things! Cool, ain't it? (For you, not for the things you're right about being bad, I mean!)

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Saturday, December 08, 2012 - 5:41 am:

Yes, take my word for it. I watched that WW pilot back on its first ABC airing in 1974, when most of you nitpickers were probably in diapers. It was 90 minutes (including commercials) of my life that I'll never get back.
In the "this was once controversial" department, Sony's MOD program has released the 1972-73 sitcom Bridget Loves Bernie; it's available now. It was controversial for its depiction of an interfaith marriage, something my kid sister has been in since 1987. Despite the series being a big success in the ratings, it was cancelled after one season. The series stars, Meredith Baxter and David Birney, would marry (and eventually divorce) in real life. Pow! Sock!! Blam!!! Batman will finally be released on Blu-Ray and DVD this November 11. The Blu-Ray set comes with a cool Hot Wheels Batmobile. More here.

The complete series of WKRP in Cincinnati is coming out next month. Though if you had preordered it from Shout Factory, it would arrive next Tuesday.

The big concern of course involves the music rights. As some of you may recall, the release of the first season on DVD several years back was met with derision because they didn't bother to get the music rights. According to the below link, while there were a few that proved impossible to obtain, most of the music will be intact. Nothing about what they'll do for the holdouts (maybe cover bands).

The complete series set of (IMHO) one of the worst shows ever, Three's Company, will be available from Starz/Anchor Bay on December 2, 2014. Why anyone would want this, I don't know. I'd rather do a colonoscopy 174 times, including drinking the swill that cleans your system out before the procedure, than watch any of the series' 174 episodes. Better use can be made of the polycarbonate material that the DVD's are made of. Like finally releasing the third season of Once and Again. More here.

By Francois Lacombe (Franc0is) on Thursday, October 23, 2014 - 2:13 pm:

Well, SOMEbody must have liked it. It lasted 8 seasons

By Todd M. Pence (Tpence) on Sunday, October 26, 2014 - 3:17 pm:

THREE'S COMPANY's scripts were written at the moron level, with the characters, supposedly adults living on their own, behaving as if they were mentally challenged. The one thing that makes the series worth watching is the comic talents of Ritter and Knotts.

By Kevin (Kevin) on Sunday, October 26, 2014 - 5:33 pm:

Except that Knotts was at his absolute worst--not his fault, granted, but the writers'. Barney Fife was about as layered as a sitcom character can be; this guy (and every other character on the show) was flat, flat, flat. He was also basically a single male version of Mrs Roper: always ready but never getting any.

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 - 8:27 am:

Here's a review of the series set of WKRP in Cincinnati. The episode "In Concert", where the station promotes The Who concert on 12/3/79, and then has to deal with the tragedy resulting from it (in which 11 fans died) is on season 2, disc 3.
And, lots of people watched Three's Company during its ABC run; it was in the Nielsen Ratings top 10 almost the entire time. That just makes it popular; it doesn't make it good.

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Tuesday, November 25, 2014 - 11:28 am:

Secret Agent, aka Danger Man, will see a series release on December 9. The series has such a cool theme, with prophetic lyrics - "They've given you a number, and taken away your name". That was the basic plot of Agent star's Patrick McGoohan's subsequent series The Prisoner. More here.

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Wednesday, November 26, 2014 - 10:17 am:

The original Battlestar Galactica and its sequel series, Galactica 1980, will arrive on Blu-Ray 5/12/2015. They will be presented in 1.78:1 aspect ratio as well as full frame. (I wondered how, then I remembered that the pilot was released theatrically, in 1.78 AR). More here.

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Tuesday, March 31, 2015 - 8:20 am:

Another show I couldn't stand, that was a huge hit at the time, Laverne & Shirley, will see a complete series release this June 16. More here.

"Humans" from AMC..on DVD...ASAP

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Thursday, December 03, 2015 - 12:54 pm:

A Blu-Ray "Collector's Set" of The X-Files will be released on 12/8/15. If Fox had waited another three months, they could have included the 2016 six-episode "event" series. More here.

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Tuesday, February 09, 2016 - 1:14 pm:

This gets me going. Shout Factory will release the entirety (11 episodes) of ABC's 90's flop-a-roo (and critically reviled) Cop Rock. Yet, it's been 10 years since ABC reneged on the season three DVD set of my beloved Once and Again; there's no sign of that ever coming out. Sometimes there's no justice. More here. (A couple of Cop Rock actors, like Anne Bobby and Ron McLarty, later appeared on Law & Order)

"Humans" from AMC..on DVD...ASAP

Humans hits DVD on 3/29/2016. I know it's "inhuman" to make you wait, John, but cest la vie. More here.

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 - 9:53 am:

The relatively obscure (and I'm sure mostly forgotten, except by dweebs like me) seventies lawyer series Petrocelli is now available on DVD. Two seasons, 44 episodes. (I don't think it includes the 1970 movie The Lawyer, which served as the series "pilot".)

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 - 9:34 am:

All seven seasons of The Good Wife will be available in one set April 4, 2017. More here.
I watched every episode of The Good Wife for its entire run, but can't for the life of me remember how it ended.

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Friday, February 17, 2017 - 10:40 am:

HBO's so-so series Divorce will be available on DVD and Blu-Ray this May 5. Yet, it's been eleven years since Disney stiffed fans (like yours truly) of Once and Again, the best show to ever deal with divorce, in regards to releasing that series third season. (Me, I can just call up any episode of Divorce at any time, thanks to HBO On-Demand. It's worth watching for Thomas Haden Church; he's great in it.)
