TV shows we want/don't want to see on DVD and why

Thanks to John A. Lang, who with patience and great good humour allowed me to mess around with the threads he originally created on this subject. :)
By John A. Lang on Monday, September 09, 2002 - 6:57 pm:

Here's some TV shows I'd like to see on DVD.

5. Clutch Cargo
6. Space Angel
7. The Perils of Penelope Pitstop
8. The Wacky Races
9. Lois & Clark

By Brian Webber on Monday, September 09, 2002 - 8:43 pm:

Titus

The Lone Gunmen

Malcolm in The Middle

By Merat on Tuesday, September 10, 2002 - 6:17 am:

Get Smart

By Brian Webber, whoring out for CDNow on Tuesday, September 10, 2002 - 10:47 am:

Malcom Season 1 is already available for advanced order at CDNow. And if you order it before Sept. 15th you get 30% off too!

By SpottedKitty on Tuesday, September 10, 2002 - 11:01 am:

Most wanted: Quantum Leap (Four eps per DVD a'la Stargate:SG1 please ^_^)

Tripods: Season 2 (Common BBC! You had it scheduled for release at one point!)

The Triffids (BBC Series, not the movie)

TBH...most of what I'd have listed here came out in the last few months actually. ^_^

And in the "I can't believe it's not out already" category: Enterprise (What the heck is this ideal that the DVDs should come out /months/ after the VHS version?)

By Adam Bomb on Tuesday, September 10, 2002 - 11:23 am:

Once And Again's first season comes to DVD November 5, 2002. I hope the other two seasons are released very quickly.

By John A. Lang on Tuesday, September 10, 2002 - 7:23 pm:

The Carol Burnett Show
The Tim Conway Show
Speed Racer (There's only one disc out now)

By Merat on Tuesday, September 10, 2002 - 8:54 pm:

"(What the heck is this ideal that the DVDs should come out /months/ after the VHS version?)"

IIRC, for a little while after DVDs first became popular, DVDs of new movies would come several weeks, if not months, before the VHS. Shame this didn't stay the case.......

By MarkN on Wednesday, September 11, 2002 - 12:18 am:

Gunsmoke! Starting with the very first eps, if they're still around and haven't been erased or recorded over yet, like Johnny Carson's early days on The Tonight Show.

By Benn on Wednesday, September 11, 2002 - 2:42 pm:

The Wild, Wild West
Columbo
WKRP In Cincinnatti
Barney Miller

By Benn on Wednesday, September 11, 2002 - 2:45 pm:

Oh. And That 70s Show.

By Todd Pence on Wednesday, September 11, 2002 - 3:21 pm:

1. Route 66
2. The Fugitive
3. Rod Serling's Night Gallery
4. The Naked City - I've never seen this one and it's supposed to be one of the greatest TV series of all time
5. Alfred Hitchcock Presents - more than the measley few already released

By John A. Lang on Wednesday, September 11, 2002 - 7:08 pm:

"Family Affair" (Original Version)
"Mission Impossible" (Original Version)

By Todd Pence on Wednesday, September 11, 2002 - 7:31 pm:

Oh here's another one - The Invaders.

By John A. Lang on Monday, September 09, 2002 - 6:53 pm:

OK...let's face reality. TV shows on DVD are becoming a hot item. However, there is just some stuff I hope NEVER comes to DVD. (However, no doubt it will any)

1. Gillian's Island
2. Lost in Space
3. The Brady Bunch

Anyone else?

By Brian Webber on Monday, September 09, 2002 - 8:41 pm:

Hey, I like Lost In Space!

By Charles Cabe (Ccabe) on Tuesday, September 10, 2002 - 5:56 am:

Hey, I like Gilligan's Island!

(those poor people....)

By Merat on Tuesday, September 10, 2002 - 6:17 am:

Sadly, there are no plans to release "Get Smart" on DVD....

*goes off to write a letter to someone to complain*

By Nawdle on Tuesday, September 10, 2002 - 8:43 pm:

Hey, I like The Brady Bunch!

By Trike on Wednesday, September 11, 2002 - 11:44 pm:

I'd like to second Benn's suggestion of WKRP in Cincinnati.

Some others I'd like to see:
St. Elsewhere
Lou Grant
Remember WENN
The Joker's Wild
(hosted by Jack Berry, a guilty pleasure because of its cheap production values and all-around hokieness)

I notice that three of my picks are old MTM shows. They really produced some excellent television.

Also, I saw today that the best of Beavis and Butt-head is on sale.

By Trike on Wednesday, September 11, 2002 - 11:46 pm:

Did I forget to mention Animaniacs? It rivals St. Elsewhere for scripts crammed with multiple meanings and cultural references.

By ScottN on Thursday, September 12, 2002 - 9:53 am:

Animaniacs is great. Did anyone else see the "Maltese Falcon" episode?

At the very end, after they get the Falcon, they show Spielberg, Katzenberg and Geffen, and end with the immortal line, "The stuff Dreamworks is made of." I nearly died laughing, and was totally unable to explain it to TrekGrrl, who was maybe 6 at the time.

By margie on Thursday, September 12, 2002 - 11:34 am:

Macgyver, under the how-to series! (How to save the world with chewing gum, a coat hanger & lots of duct tape!)

By ScottN on Thursday, September 12, 2002 - 11:46 am:

Duct Tape is like the Force. It has a light side and a dark side, and it holds the universe together.

By Chris Booton (Cbooton) on Thursday, September 12, 2002 - 6:27 pm:

Did I forget to mention Animaniacs? It rivals St. Elsewhere for scpipts crammed with multiple meanings and cultural references.

Especially for us viewers in Canada who got hosed when the beasts moved it to the WB. We dont get the WB up here, so we basically got hosed and only saw episodes on YTV years after they had aired.

By Hannah F., West Wing Moderator (Cynicalchick) on Thursday, September 12, 2002 - 7:02 pm:

Animaniacs rules!!!!!!:O

Yakko: (spins a prize wheel) Wheel of Morality, turn turn turn, tell us the lesson that we should learn...
Wakko: Moral number..43!
Yakko pulls a piece of paper out of the printer on the wheel
Wakko: <reads paper; something totally random and weird>
Yakko: How profound.
Dot: I'd like to buy a vowel.
Yakko: Wrong wheel.

I'd also love to see:
West Wing
Titus
Lois & Clark

And more to be named later...

By Benn on Thursday, September 12, 2002 - 7:06 pm:

STAR TREK The animated series
Dave's World
AfterM*A*S*H
The complete, uncensored Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies library. Even the poloitically incorrect ones.

By Trike on Thursday, September 12, 2002 - 11:46 pm:

Selected morals from the "Wheel of Morality":

"If at first you don't succeed, blame it on your parents."
"Possums have pouches like kangaroos."
"Don't eat with your mouth full."
"Never ask what hot dogs are made of."
"Brush your teeth after every meal."
"The answer, my friend, is blowing in the wind."
"If you can't say anything nice, you're probably at the ice capades."
"Elvis lives on in our hearts, in his music, and in a trailer park outside Milwaukee."

By Trike on Thursday, September 12, 2002 - 11:50 pm:

Chris, you should almost be glad you didn't have to watch Animaniacs after it moved from Fox to the WB. The move killed the show. It was obvious watching the WB episodes that the show had already peaked. Yeah, it was still better than 90 percent of everything else on television, but you could tell the end was coming.

By Hannah F., West Wing Moderator (Cynicalchick) on Friday, September 13, 2002 - 12:57 am:

More shows I'd love to see:

Looney Tunes
Rocko's Modern Life (quit laughing! That show rocked!)
Clarissa Explains It All *hangs head*
Ren & Stimpy
Aeon Flux (MTV American anime; kicked ass)
Deep Space Nine

By ScottN on Friday, September 13, 2002 - 1:10 am:

Aeon Flux was cool.

I also admit to the guilty pleasure of Rocko. Much better than the current cr@p on Nick.
As for Looney Tunes...

"Do you want to shoot me now, or take me home and shoot me?"

By John A. Lang on Friday, September 13, 2002 - 4:33 am:

The ORIGINAL "Match Game"...Charles N. Reilly just cracks me up.

I 3rd the motion for Aeon Flux...get cracking, someone!

By Sven of Diamonds on Friday, September 13, 2002 - 1:57 pm:

I've said it before and I'l say it again:
"Space: Above and Beyond"

>STAR TREK The animated series

Hey, yeah! When the heck is this DVD series coming out?

By Brian Webber, Uber-Geek on Friday, September 13, 2002 - 2:50 pm:

I agree with Todd. Some of those Animated Treks were actually pretty d@mn good! Some of them were even better than the live action show's thrid season (not that it would take much, Phantom menace was better than most of those episodes).

I'll 4th for Aeon Flux, mostly becuase I only ever got to see a few episodes and it looked cool.

How about a DVD pack for the short-lived half-hour version of Pinky & The Brain?

By Mighty Mouse on Friday, September 13, 2002 - 10:55 pm:

The New Adventures of Mighty Mouse!!!!!! The Ralph Bakshi stuff was GREAT!!!!!!!!

By Hannah F., West Wing Moderator (Cynicalchick) on Saturday, September 14, 2002 - 2:04 am:

I WANT DUCKMAN!!!!

From USA TV...

Anyone else remember it?

A perverted duck detective works with a pig, Cornelius. Duckman lives with his sister-in-law Beatrice and his sons Ajax (the tall one with half the IQ of Homer Simpson), and the conjoined twins whose names I forgot.

Oh, and his secretaries that he's always tearing in half (literally): the teddy-bear things, Neptune and Venus. (Or was one of them named Fluffy?)

By John A. Lang on Saturday, September 14, 2002 - 4:36 am:

REQUEST TO NITPICKERS:

If you hear about any of these requests coming to DVD, post 'em here.

Let me start by saying "Mary Tyler Moore-Season 1" is coming out on Sep. 17, 2002

By John A. Lang on Saturday, September 14, 2002 - 4:38 am:

I apologize, I just double checked....it's Sep. 24, 2002

By Benn on Sunday, September 15, 2002 - 3:40 pm:

John, the original Hollywood Squares is very unlikely. According to an interview I saw with Peter Marshall on Entertainment Tonight, the tapes with the early eps were taped over or erased. The same holds true for the first several of Johnny Carson's run on The Tonight Show.

One more I'd like to see: Saturday Night (Live). (Well, its true title was Saturday Night.) And I'd like to every episode released - uncut. When Charles Rocket said, "f**k" I don't want it bleeped. When Pamela Anderson did her nude monologue, I don't want to see digital squares covering the good parts. And Lorne Michaels, I don't care how bad the Milton Berle and Louise Lasser eps were, I wanna see 'em.

By Adam Bomb on Sunday, September 15, 2002 - 3:50 pm:

1. Hill Street Blues
2. L.A. Law
3. St. Elsewhere (dittoing Trike above.)
4. Police Squad (Only six episodes; can fit them all on one DVD.)

24 comes to DVD on 9/17/02, with an alternate ending as one of the extras.

By Brian Fitzgerald on Sunday, September 15, 2002 - 5:26 pm:

When Pamela Anderson did her nude monologue, I don't want to see digital squares covering the good parts

Those digital squares were part of the joke. She was wearing a rather sizable bikini during her "nude" monologue. They used the moasic effect so you could even see parts of the white bikini one the first broadcast of the ep./

By Merat on Sunday, September 15, 2002 - 8:22 pm:

The rest of ReBoot. Only season 3 was released on DVD so far.

By Brian Webber on Monday, September 16, 2002 - 1:14 am:

ALF
Mad About You
Quincy M.E.
Homicide: Life on the Street (so far only the Homicide TV movie is available on DVD)
Dream On
Charmed (my guilty pleaseure show that I am often made to feel ashamed for watching

By D.K. Henderson on Monday, September 16, 2002 - 5:30 am:

Ellery Queen (with Jim Hutton)
Nero Wolfe
Mission: Impossible (the original series, but I'd take the remake as well)
Riptide (So I like Joe Penny. So what?)
Jake and the Fatman (Still like Joe Penny)
Stingray (With Nick Mancuso, not the marionettes)

And I'd like the complete sets. Columbia House has a nasty habit of stopping part-way and sending a letter: "Well, that's all we have!" The only complete set (of videos) that I have from them is THE NIGHT STALKER--which only ran one season.

The Critic
Futurama
Family Guy

Figures. By the time that ep had run, I'd gotten bored with SNL. I have seen parts of the monologue, but not all of it. I mentioned it mostly for its (undeserved) notoriety.

"RE: HOLLYWOOD SQUARES

Perhaps if they rummaged around, they can find some shows and put them on DVD." - John A. Lang

Possibly. But I doubt they'll be the vintage Charley Weaver/Paul Lynde/Rose Marie/Wally Cox eps you're thinking of. Most likely they would be eps from the 70s. But unless a situation similar to the discovery of the lost I Love Lucy pilot happens, I'm afraid there's probably not too much hope.

By Benn on Sunday, September 29, 2002 - 5:52 am:

Family Guy. I could shoot the Fox execs for cancelling this series. Put it out on disc, so I can at least enjoy what did get aired.

By Adam Bomb on Friday, October 04, 2002 - 9:56 am:

I hope never to see Dharma and Greg on DVD, VHS, in syndication, or anywhere else. Talk about a one-joke premise that wore out its welcome five minutes into the pilot. WPIX-TV, in New York City, just replaced its Sunday at midnight hour of The Honeymooners with this drivel.

By Brian Webber on Friday, October 04, 2002 - 10:46 am:

Actually the first season wasn't too bad I thought. It was kind if cute. But by about episode 2 of season 2 I compeltely lost interest and enver went back.

By John A. Lang on Saturday, November 30, 2002 - 7:06 pm:

I don't want to see...
"Gilligan's Planet" or "The Brady Kids"
Come to DVD

By Benn on Sunday, December 01, 2002 - 4:41 pm:

Somehow, John, I doubt there's a market for either of those two early-mid Seventies cartoons. Until now, I had safely buried the memories of them in the deepest recesses of my mind. I'll thank you to never mention them again. Now I'm gonna have nightmares about Mop Top and those two damned panda bears the Brady Kids had. ARRRRRGH!

By John A. Lang on Sunday, December 01, 2002 - 9:13 pm:

They were "Ping" & "Pong"...the (politically incorrect) pandas.

By Benn on Monday, December 02, 2002 - 2:23 am:

Did you have to remind me of the names, too?

By Merat on Monday, December 02, 2002 - 10:19 am:

The animated series "Gargoyles" would be great to have on DVD.

By Craig Rohloff on Wednesday, December 04, 2002 - 7:13 am:

Good one, Merat! I've caught bits and pieces of it on syndicated TV, and would like to see it from the beginning so I can make better sense of what's going on. Of course, maybe we could just count on a local station to show the episodes uncut and in order, right? :O

By Craig again on Wednesday, December 04, 2002 - 7:20 am:

By the way, I'd like the early 1970's cartoon series Valley of the Dinosaurs. I saw reurns of several episodes on Boomerang last summer, and was surprised how well the show holds up after so many years. (It was also a nice nostalgia trip for me!) I believe there were only 13 episodes in all, but I don't believe they're being shown anymore.

By Mike Brill on Wednesday, December 04, 2002 - 11:55 am:

Hypernauts
Sliders
That Saturday morning show, I've forgotten the name, written by Bill Mumy and Peter David. It was about a half-dozen or so space cadets and two totally incompetent adults from the space academy, who all get lost together in the same space ship.

By Craig Rohloff on Wednesday, December 04, 2002 - 12:43 pm:

Hypernauts! I'd forgotten about that one, but I liked the three episodes I'd seen a few years ago.

What about Space Academy and its 'sequel,' Jason of Star Command?

By Merat on Wednesday, December 04, 2002 - 10:44 pm:

Mike, I belive it was called "Space Cases."

Also, I just read something by Greg Weisman, the creator of Gargoyles, who said that a DVD will be comming out sometime next year, but that he doesn't know what exactly will be on it.

By Influx on Thursday, December 05, 2002 - 8:21 am:

Considering the title of this topic, you should clarify whether it's a show you do or don't want to see on DVD. I can't tell if you like these shows or not! :)

Personally, I loved the very short-lived Hypernauts (especially the skywhales episode). Great SFX, character development, etc.

By Craig I guess this isn`t all that funny but here I go anyway Rohloff on Thursday, December 05, 2002 - 8:51 am:

Maybe some Gargoyles stuff will be on the DVD Weisman said is coming out... (OK, sorry, folks!)

What I saw of Hypernauts seemed to have continuity, too, which is rare in Saturday morning 'kid' shows.

Anyone ever see Pirates of Dark Water? That interesting show had some bigger-name voice actors (Tim Curry being the only one I can think of right now), and relied heavily upon each story building upon what had come before.

By Todd Pence on Monday, January 27, 2003 - 5:28 pm:

One of my wishes in my first post on this board just came true. Naked City is just now coming out on DVD.

By CR on Tuesday, January 28, 2003 - 7:13 am:

I may have missed it if it was already posted, but how about The Maxx?

By Butch Brookshier on Thursday, February 06, 2003 - 5:14 pm:

Some Saturday morning shows I wouldn't mind seeing again.

One I'd like to see on DVD, "Hot Wheels". It was an animated show about a car club. Of course all their cars happened to look like Hot Wheels toys. This caused a lot of controversy at the time. Detractors claimed the show was nothing but a half hour commercial. I however, remember that there were actual stories in each episode and they often had a moral or safety point.

A couple more:
"Isis" with Joanna Cameron
"Ark II"

By Benn on Thursday, February 06, 2003 - 5:37 pm:

Oh god, I remember the old Hot Wheels cartoon. It was on ABC. I don't think I watched it, though. At the time it was airing, I was probably watching H. R. Pufnstuf or Here Comes the Grump. Or Underdog.

I never watched Isis too much and I did try an ep or two of Ark II and didn't particularly care for it. But that's just me.

By CR on Thursday, February 06, 2003 - 9:42 pm:

I remember not liking Ark II as a kid, but perhaps now I could appreciate it more. (Side note: I used to think their uniforms were derived from Space: 1999, but instead of S99's color coded sleeve, the Ark II uniforms had color taking up roughly half the uniform. Come to think of it, that still seems derived from S99.)

By John A. Lang on Monday, February 17, 2003 - 3:19 pm:

WANT LIST:

Green Acres
Knight Rider
Charlie's Angels (tv series)
Battlestar Galactica (tv series)

DON'T WANT LIST:

Petticoat Junction
The Facts of Life
Chico & the Man

By CR on Tuesday, February 18, 2003 - 7:19 am:

Battlestar Galactica's out in a boxed set--if you live Down Under.

By ScottN on Tuesday, February 18, 2003 - 9:05 am:

In the US, SciFi will be airing Galactica. All of it. Of course, they aren't saying if they will air the horrid "Galactica 1980".

By CR on Tuesday, February 18, 2003 - 11:22 am:

By "all of it," does that mean that lousy station actually won't hack the episodes to shreds in order to fit in more commercials?

By Adam Bomb on Tuesday, February 18, 2003 - 12:18 pm:

Sci-Fi used to truck out Galactica for Christmas Eve marathons, but not in the past two years. Five hours daily for five days means they will bypass Galactica 1980.
I would like to see season sets of Married With Children on DVD. So far, all we have out is one disc, titled "The Most Outrageous," with five episodes on it (with a second five-episode disc due in April.) Who picks what episodes will be on these discs, anyway? One of their funniest shows, titled "A Period Piece," was left off the disc. This sounds like the same problem I have with so-called "Greatest Hits" collections. (See the "Music" board for more on that.)

By ScottN on Tuesday, February 18, 2003 - 1:15 pm:

Speaking of Mw/C.... Did anyone else watch the reunion? It was kind of fun.

By Adam Bomb on Tuesday, February 18, 2003 - 2:16 pm:

Yes, it was fun. David Garrison got a bit older looking, and his hair is quite gray now.
I wish they had 90 minutes or even two hours to discuss the series. There must have been more behind-the scenes tidbits they could have discussed. After all, MwC ran 11 seasons. They also never brought up the so-called "lost episode," "I'll See You In Court," which was never shown in the U.S. until FX ran it in June, 2002 (which is on the DVD I mentioned above, and is also in the current syndication package.)

By CR on Tuesday, April 01, 2003 - 7:25 am:

Is The Night Stalker on dvd yet? I think that would be a cool one. (It spooked me out as a kid, anyway.)

Family Guy. I could shoot the Fox execs for cancelling this series. Put it out on disc, so I can at least enjoy what did get aired.- Benn

Fortunately I tend to tape things like this when I sense that things aren't going to go well. I've got three tapes of the later stuff, though DVD's would be nice. Glad to know there's a FG fan on the boards...

What's with FOX, anyway? They actually develop a lot of shows with an interesting premise (Andy Richter, Greg the Bunny, Lone Gunmen, Firefly...) but then axe them or sabotage them before they can build a following. Keep your VCR's handy, folks.

One of my regrets is that I didn't tape Eek the Cat or Tripods (there was a season 2?) when I had the chance...

By CR on Wednesday, April 02, 2003 - 10:20 am:

There was supposed to be a third season of The Tripods, adapting the third novel in the trilogy... alas, it was not to be.

By Nawdle on Wednesday, April 02, 2003 - 1:08 pm:

John A. Lang,

Knight Rider is on DVD here in the US, but only from Columbia House.

Benn and Miko Iko,

If you (or anyone else) haven't heard, Family Guy is coming out as two DVD sets here in the US shortly. The Volume 1 set due on April 15th has 4 DVDs with the first and second season episodes on them.

Amazon and Barnes & Noble are both taking Pre-orders on it. I'm sure you can find it listed at many other sites as well.

And some (not all) of the episodes are supposed to have commentary on them.

By Miko Iko on Wednesday, April 02, 2003 - 2:09 pm:

Sweet!

By Benn on Friday, April 04, 2003 - 1:10 pm:

Coolio! I'm glad to hear it! I'll be looking forward to them. Thanks for the information Nawdle.

By Adam Bomb on Monday, April 14, 2003 - 9:11 am:

My friend Pete informed me that the first season of Lost In Space is due to be released on DVD in January, 2004. I'm looking forward to this (sorry, John) as the first season was the best of its run, and I had a big crush on Marta Kristen.
I'd like to know when Seasons 2 and 3 of Once And Again will hit DVD. So far, no word from Buena Vista.

The West Wing
ER
Scrubs
Law & Order SVU
Gilmore Girls (no, I'm not kidding)

By John A. Lang on Tuesday, July 08, 2003 - 10:11 am:

Vol. 1 of "The Best of Rowan & Martin's Laugh In" is now out on DVD.

Richard Nixon appears in disc 1.

Other notable appearances: Lorne Greene, John Wayne, Jack Benny, Sammy Davis Jr. (Here Comes Da Judge), Don Rickles.

Lily Tomlin also appears as Ernestine Beasley

By Adam Bomb on Monday, July 21, 2003 - 1:07 pm:

Nixon: "Sock it to me???"
I remember when Laugh-In was in its first run in the spring of '68. I was almost on the floor laughing when Sammy Davis Jr. did "Here Come Da Judge." Pontiac climbed on the bandwagon and named a souped-up Tempest "The Judge."
Wasn't Ernestine also known as "Ernestine Tomlin?"

The first season of ER is due on DVD on August 26, 2003 (this according to Amazon.) Included in the first season is one of the series' best episodes, "Love's Labor Lost," where Dr. Greene's routine delivery of a baby goes horribly wrong.
Season Two of 24 is due out on or about the same date.

I read recently that Battlestar Galactica is due for a US DVD release late in 2003. This is to coincide with the Sci-Fi Channel's Galactica miniseries.

By mike ram on Monday, July 21, 2003 - 9:57 pm:

The Maxx

Viper (season 2 was decent)

Mission Impossible (60's)

Melrose Place, one of TV's all time guilty pleasures. Seven seasons of pure trash. I loved every minute of it.
thirtysomething, classic '80's series of yuppie angst. Superb writing and acting abound.

By T.K. on Tuesday, July 22, 2003 - 10:27 am:

Why hasn't anyone said Mystery Science Theater 3000, the years on Comedy Central? Last time I checked you could only get a few of those episodes (like "Manos") on VHS.

By Sparrow47 on Tuesday, July 22, 2003 - 11:45 am:

Actually, they've got some MST3K on DVD already. I've seen them at my local Borders and Barnes and Noble.

By ScottN on Tuesday, July 22, 2003 - 12:02 pm:

Because we don't want our DVD players to explode when "Manos" comes on? :)

By Merat on Tuesday, July 22, 2003 - 5:08 pm:

"Manos" is available on DVD. The DVD includes "Poopie", the MST3K bloopers.

By Adam Bomb on Tuesday, July 22, 2003 - 8:28 pm:

Anyone remember Beany and Cecil, a cartoon from the mid-60's? Cecil was called "the seasick sea serpent." A lot of the humor was in the form of really bad puns. I haven't seen that in years. Is it on anywhere? I'd love to see it again, or to know if any episodes are on DVD.

By mike ram on Tuesday, July 22, 2003 - 9:20 pm:

The A-Team

And your obedient serpent in...
A Bob Clam-pett Car-too-OOON!

By CR on Wednesday, July 23, 2003 - 8:48 am:

Oh, wow! I have a stuffed Cecil toy! Actually, I think my parents have it at their place now, but it's one of my earliest childhood toys.

The Maxx. I recently saw a tape someone made of that series. Even seeing the whole thing through from start to finish, it's weird. But yeah, I'd buy a dvd of it!

As for MST3K, I'm waiting for the "Mr. Be Natural" short to come out. It was the first thing I ever saw on MST3K, and is still one of the funniest.

By Adam Bomb on Wednesday, July 23, 2003 - 9:18 pm:

I found out today-there is one volume of Beany and Cecil on DVD.
As Scott said, it was "a Bob Clam-Pett Cartoon." Bob Clampett worked with Chuck Jones on some classic Warner Bros cartoons (including one of the best, "Corny Concerto.")

By markvthomas on Thursday, July 24, 2003 - 7:20 pm:

As a British viewer, I would like the Original Max Headroom Video Show on DVD (Basically, It was Matt Frewer as Max, making sarcastic comments on various pop videos !)
For The U.S Lorimar series, I'd like to see the Original British Pilot included, as some of the characters were Very Different indeed (Bryce Lynch was a far nastier & oiler character in the U.K pilot as compared to the U.S Version !)
Yours, Mark
Wonder Woman & The Dukes of Hazzard have now started to come out on Region 2 DVD's in the U.K, But The Dukes Of Hazzard starts off on Season 2 for some reason ?

By Gordon Lawyer on Friday, July 25, 2003 - 6:00 am:

I'd like to see Dragnet (the one with Ed O'Neill and Ethan Embry). Hopefully, they'd include the promos from the Super Bowl as extras.

By John A. Lang on Friday, July 25, 2003 - 10:24 am:

I'd like to see the original Batman TV series on DVD (w/ Adam West & Burt Ward) Only the movie is out.

By John A. Lang on Wednesday, August 06, 2003 - 7:43 am:

I wish to correct myself.

Richard Nixon appears on disc 2 of "The Best of Rowan & Martin's Laugh In"

The set includes interviews with Gary Owens, Ruth Buzzi & Arte Johnson

The shows all begin with the old NBC Peacock with the voiceover saying "This program is brought to you in living color...on NBC" Talk about notalgia!

"The Monkees" Season 1 is now out on DVD...if anyone is interested.

My friend Pete tells me that they're not releasing any more seasons of The Mary Tyler Moore Show on DVD, as Season One was a major sales disappointment.
"Bundyology" reports Season One of Married With Children is due October 28.

By Kail on Monday, August 25, 2003 - 4:26 am:

"My friend Pete tells me that they're not releasing any more seasons of The Mary Tyler Moore Show on DVD, as Season One was a major sales disappointment."

Thats to bad. Season one was not the best seaseon for that show, I was planning on getting some of the later ones. Also, they made a mistake by making the sets so expensive, much more so then other similar shows.

By Adam Bomb on Saturday, September 06, 2003 - 8:12 am:

Unfortunately, the first season of Three's Company is due to be released on DVD in early 2004. What a waste of polycarbonate, time, effort...

By Brian Webber on Saturday, September 06, 2003 - 9:33 am:

Kail: Any news on Law & Order Year Two? According to the coupon to get $10 off the purchase of it that came in the year 1 set, it was supposed to be out this past Spring. Then on the the View Askew board a DVD fanatic told me that it was going to be July. Amazon.com isn't even offering it for pre-order yet, and their set-up has DVDs for pre-sale that aren't being released until late October!

anyone remember Robert lansing 12 0 clock high shows?
the tv stations cut the episodes to death in Ca...JohnA, think the Battlestar tv shows are in dvd now and in boxxed sets like Andromeda...

By Kail on Saturday, September 06, 2003 - 3:19 pm:

Brian, I have heard nothing about L&O season two. However, L&O: C.I. season one is coming out pretty soon. Which to me is strange, since it is such a new show. There are so many quailty shows of the past which are not on DVD. While I'm on the subject of DVD's, I think the people who are putting out the I Love Lucy DVD's are nuts. First, they try selling single discs with only a few eps on them, now I hear they are finally releasing a first season set.... for $100!!!! That is totally crazy! You can buy season sets of newer, color, hour long shows for half that. I really don't understand the corporate mindset.

Battlestar Galatica on DVD---Oct 21. The entire series. ($89.99 - Amazon. com)
The box will look like a Cylon's head...complete with a red eye that moves!

John A. Lang... COOL! Even if the show wasn't the greatest, it's about time it became available, and with nifty packaging to boot!

And when you pay for it, the laser scanner machine at the checkout counter will say, "By your command!"

By norman on Sunday, September 07, 2003 - 1:31 pm:

Want:

Animated series: Daria (complete series), Dr. Katz, T.V. Funhouse, the Critic, Bob and Margaret (glad "Family Guy" made it, though as well as that other family-- one season, one year at at time :) ), Pepper Ann, Wait 'Till Your Father Gets Home (the animated Norman Lear-like comedy), Liquid Television (complete series with ALL Winter Steeles, Dog Boys, the two original Beavis and Butthead, etc.)

Dramas and Comedies: Northern Exposure (•••• Hallmark), Days and Nights of Molly Dodd, Picket Fences, Trying Times, Soap (though Soap is about to be released).

Don't Want: Coach, All "Fair Haven" episodes from the Voyager DVD set (they should just not be included as if they never happened), unnecessary Vic Fontaine scenes from DS9 (i.e. most of them).

By Brian Webber on Sunday, September 07, 2003 - 2:00 pm:

Dr. Katz would be sweet to have on DVD. Remember that epsiode with Carrie Fisher as the ex-wife? I hurt myself laughing! :)

By Adam Bomb on Monday, October 13, 2003 - 10:40 pm:

WPIX just replaced its Sunday midnight run of Dharma and Greg with much more respectable sitcoms-The Odd Couple and The Honeymooners. HOORAY!
Actually, with all the twaddle that's coming out on DVD (they're releasing My Big Fat Greek Life on DVD, for crying out loud!) they should release The Odd Couple sooner than later. I think the movie version was funnier, but both Tony Randall and Jack Klugman were excellent. I heard recently heard from my friend Pete that all classic 39 Honeymooners episodes are coming out soon.
I was watching two episodes of Melrose Place this morning, and it was even trashier and more over-the-top than I remembered it. Bring On The MP DVD's

By Todd Pence on Tuesday, October 14, 2003 - 6:23 pm:

The complete series of the new Outer Limits (there's only been twelve episodes released so far).

It's cool though. that all 48 of the original Outer Limits have now all been released on DVD.

What or who is Clutch Cargo? (clueless here)

By John A. Lang on Wednesday, October 15, 2003 - 7:46 am:

Clutch Cargo is a 1950's-1960's cartoon created by Clark Haas. It was the first cartoon to feature "the living lips" in their cels. (A cartoon drawing with real human lips mouthing the words) This type of animation is patented too!

By Richard Davies on Wednesday, October 15, 2003 - 1:15 pm:

With other Gerry Anderson shows coming out on DVD I hope it's not too long before Dick Spanner is available. Hopefully with all the 6 minute episodes seperate, rather than 25 minute compilations, which all the repeats & original video releases came as.

By Brian Webber on Wednesday, October 15, 2003 - 2:38 pm:

Of my list made in April, The West Wing, ER, and Law & Order SVU are either availble, or going to be availble on DVD in the next month.

By Adam Bomb on Wednesday, October 22, 2003 - 11:50 pm:

WPIX Channel 11 (our former Trek home) is running a 10 hour marathon of The Addams Family this Saturday (Oct. 25.) I'm surprised that this is on a local broadcast station, as I thought cable channels Nick At Nite and TV Land had these old shows all to themselves.
Anyway, I'd like to see this series on DVD. Edgy humor, cool theme music, hilarious perfs from all, and Ted Cassidy as Lurch. How can you go wrong? BTW, I read that Vic Mizzy, who composed the theme, never took a dime for it, as he loved the Chas. Addams cartoons so much.

By Adam Bomb on Wednesday, October 22, 2003 - 11:57 pm:

It's cool though. that all 48 of the original Outer Limits have now all been released on DVD.

Yeah, Todd, but it's priced a bit inconsistently. J&R here in New York wants only $5 less for the short (17 episode) second season, than it does for the 32-episode first season.

By Todd Pence on Friday, October 24, 2003 - 4:03 pm:

Yeah, that is a definite gyp.
