TNT is running all of the B5 movies this week at 11am M-F, starting with The Gathering on Monday.

By Newt on Thursday, July 13, 2000 - 10:03 pm:

Not sure this belongs here but it was an open message board so oh well.

I read today that the Sci-Fi Channel is going to air Babylon 5 in the Letterbox format it was filmed. Anyone know much about this? I'm surprised they would continue to film in a widescreen format while airing for 5 years in 4:3. Anyone know the aspect it was filmed in? 2:35:1? 1.85:1?

By Newt on Friday, July 14, 2000 - 7:09 pm:

As an answer to my own question. I found out B5 was filmed in a 16:9 HDTV master, but the FX weren't so I'm curious as to how Sc-Fi will handle this issue.

By Peter Clayborne on Wednesday, September 06, 2000 - 10:46 pm:

Rumor has it that when B5 moves to sci-fi channel there will be a new B5 TV movie.

By Newt on Thursday, September 07, 2000 - 6:37 pm:

Wow, I haven't heard that one.

If they do, I'll be mad though. I don't get sci-fi.

At the rec.arts.sf.tv.babylon5.moderated newsgroup, JMS has confirmed that "one very large deal has now been set and closed, another is in heavy negotiations (with money now on the table from those involved), and a surprise third project is also coming up fast and furious". Sounds like good news to me!

By Anonymous on Tuesday, March 20, 2001 - 4:27 pm:

YES! YES YES YES YES! YES YES YES! YES YES!

And now confirmed by Joe himself!

Subject: from jms re: new series

"To those who've heard the news already, and those just now finding out...the SciFi Channel today announced that we have a new Babylon 5 TV movie going into production that will also serve as a pilot for a likely new series.

"The movie (and the series) is under the heading of BABYLON 5: THE LEGEND OF THE RANGERS. The specific title for the 2-hour movie's story is "To Live and Die in Starlight."

"There isn't much I can tell you about the story because we're kinda keeping the details under wraps as much as possible for the time being. What little I can say....

"It's set in the B5 universe just under 3 years after the events of "Objects at Rest." At this point there's one major character from the B5 universe in the script (a fan favorite). Where B5 was a heavy drama with some adventure/action elements, this one is a little more skewed toward adventure with underlying drama (which is about what you'd expect from the Anla-Shok).

"We've been sitting on this information for a while now...such that we're already well into pre-production. We'll be shooting this movie around mid-May, well in advance of any potential actor's strike (the script is done and so far everybody likes it a LOT).

"We've already got designs coming in on a new ship, and a new *kind* of ship...and we're going to be getting more into Minbari aesthetics, technologies and philosophy.

"It's got some great characters, and it's a lot of fun."

Hmmm ... A "fan favourite". It can't be Lochley, then ... ;-)

By Lee Jamilkowski (Ljamilkowski) on Wednesday, March 21, 2001 - 4:44 pm:

What happened to the A Call to Arms/Crusade board? They seem to have disappeared; new ones might need to be put up so that people can nitpick Crusade when it airs on Sci Fi next month.

By Sarah Perkins on Wednesday, March 21, 2001 - 5:27 pm:

A fan favorite? Probably somehow connected with the Anla'shok? LENNIER! It has to be, it just has to! [please, please, please....]

By Callie Sullivan on Thursday, March 22, 2001 - 2:24 am:

But would Lennier have stayed with the Rangers after trying to kill Ranger 1's husband?! I imagine he pretty much became persona non grata after that little escapade and so had to leave the Rangers.

A friend and I were talking about this and we think it must/ought to be Delenn. And it'd be interesting to see whether she'd be lugging 18-month-old (ish) David Sheridan around with her, cos I'd like to know whether this one-quarter (ish!) Minbari has any external bone structure on his head.

The only problem with Delenn being in this series would be the explanation of why John was never with her (assuming that Bruce wasn't in the show too - but Joe did say just one regular from the old series). Constantly making the excuse that he was busy with ISA business could get a bit wearing after a while. I wonder if Bruce would consider making the occasional guest appearance? Now that would make the series even more worth watching!

By Callie on Thursday, March 22, 2001 - 6:04 am:

GULP ... Not sure how to break this to you, guys ...

Brits who attended the Starfury convention recently discovered that Peter Woodward was the only person who'd heard even rumours about the new series. The conclusion drawn from this is that the "fan favourite" will be Galen!!

By Sarah Perkins on Thursday, March 22, 2001 - 3:05 pm:

"One major character"? Galen?! Well, if you watched Crusade...I didn't.... would that apply? Fan favorite? Besides, how the heck are the technomages associated with the Anla'shok? Seriously, I want some theories if anyone accepts this Galen idea.

[*sob* i want lenneir or delenn--well i really want marcus but that's out of the question.... *sigh*]

By Callie Sullivan on Friday, March 23, 2001 - 2:46 am:

I bet Jason Carter is spitting nails at the fact that Marcus was still dead in SiL - cos otherwise they might have found some way to revive him from stasis and send him on his merry way just in time for this new series to start!

I can't find anyone who's happy at the thought that it might be Galen. Do remember, though, that it's all rumour and conjecture at the moment - we might be in for a more pleasant surprise (oh, pleeeease let it be a more pleasant surprise!!).

By Lee Jamilkowski (Ljamilkowski) on Saturday, March 24, 2001 - 6:06 pm:

Callie, have you read the B5 short story in Amazing Stories titled "Space, Time and the Incurable Romantic"?

By Sarah Perkins on Sunday, March 25, 2001 - 1:29 am:

That sounds intriguing, can that story be found anywhere online?

By Brian Webber on Sunday, March 25, 2001 - 2:48 am:

I liked Galen! I mean he was the only likeable character on that •••• show, which hurts me because I like Gary Cole's work. He was a scream in Office Space. :)

By Lee Jamilkowski (Ljamilkowski) on Friday, March 30, 2001 - 9:03 am:

No, it can't be found. I can give you a synopsis though: 300 or so years after Marcus was placed into cryogenic suspension, the Rangers awaken him. Unfortunately, with everyone he knew and loved dead, Marcus feels his life has no real purpose anymore. But he ends up doing something that the morality of which is questionable, all in the name of love.

Wizards of the Coast - Amazing Stories

Check out the URL for info. You can still order the magazine.

By Callie Sullivan on Sunday, April 22, 2001 - 7:12 am:

For the latest news on the new Rangers series, click here:

B5LR.com

While it is stressed that this isn't an official site and not all the information can be confirmed, it does seem official that the "fan favourite" will be G'Kar rather than Galen. Sounds a much option to me!

By stephen on Saturday, May 18, 2002 - 6:23 pm:

I wonder if anybody comes here any more?
How many of you saw Crusade and Legends of the Rangers? I didn't see either one. Crusade got some really bad reviews, didn't it?

By Brian Webber on Saturday, May 18, 2002 - 10:01 pm:

Crusade wasn't THAT bad (the worst part was the music. talk about nauseating). But Legend of the Rangers was out and out pitiful.

By Callie Sullivan on Sunday, May 19, 2002 - 8:45 am:

Crusade had some promise - and if you watch the episodes in the order that Joe wanted them to be, they're actually a lot better than the order that TPTB showed them in. I agree with Brian that the music was dire, but it seems to be a matter of preference as I know that some people liked the music a lot. My problem with it was that, having spent five years with Christopher Franke's music, I couldn't get used to the new style. If Crusade had been very different from Babylon 5, I think I might have been able to make the adjustment to the music better.

Richie - didn't there used to be a Crusade section on this board? I'm sure I remember posting comments on some episodes.
