High Code

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: ReBoot: Season Two: High Code

Mainframe is visited by a "stranger"--a Codemaster who seeks a creature named Talon. Bob attempts to nullify the Codemaster by tricking him into a Wild West game and deliberately letting the user win, but Enzo appears in the game and Bob must win to save Enzo's life. When they emerge, Talon appears to confront the stranger, and Bob is amazed to see it is an old friend who must do battle with the stranger.

No one's posted any messages here yet. Apparently this isn't a popular episode. The Codemaster lacks any real charm or appeal as a character.

"High Code" begins with Western-style music. A take on "High Noon"?

The Codemaster generates some kind of "portable holes" to enter and move about Mainframe. They're not portals as we've come to know them.

The Mainframers make their first mention of the Web--with apprehension. They fear the Web, apparently.

The Wild West game puts the User in the unlikely role of dastardly villan, and the objective is to race to the last station of the railroad? Maybe it's just one part of a much longer game, and "train fight" is just one chapter.

Phong is in Baudway in the last act, at the showdown outside Dot's Diner, instead of tending to the Principal Office, a rare departure for him.

When Phong is examining Glitch, Bob is lying on a biobed from Star Trek: TOS. Also, my copy of this episode is missing the credits, but Lens' voice sounds very much like either Alec Willows (Tarantulas from Beast Wars) or Doug Parker (voice of Terrorsaur from Beast Wars). This wouldn't be surprising as many ReBoot actors also did the voices of Beast Wars characters.
