God only knows if anyone on this board cares, but it's worth mentioning. Firefly was a (very short lived) television Sci-Fi series aired on Fox in 2002. Only 14 episodes were filmed, and only 11 of those made it to TV. I honestly feel that it was one of the strongest shows to be released in the last five years.
Joss Whedon was the guy behind it (better known for both Buffy and Angel). After the show was cancelled, Joss contacted a number of studios in hope of launching a motion picture, and it is now official - "Serenity" is greenlighted by Universal, for release in late 2005.
Those of you who know Firefly, join me in cheering. The rest of you, go buy the DVD box set.
Throwing in my cheer
Mentioned it back in September, but this is the first I've heard of the title and release date. This was a fantastic show, and I'm glad its getting another chance.
*Cheers*
Me too.
I hope they can get all of the original cast members back. Thanks for the information.
No trouble.
From what I've read, the entire cast is back. The last person announced was Ron Glass (Rev. Book).
Watching the DVD, I just noticed that the producer of Firefly is Ben Edlund of "The Tick" fame.
Oh, quick request. Can we get boards for the others episodes up? Thanks.
What a great series! I just hope that the movie is not just another re-write of the series. If any of you haven't seen the TV series, go buy or rent it from Netflix.
After you are done, you may start your own letter writing campaign to bring the show back. (Actually, if the movie does well, I could totally see the TV series coming back.)
To see some on-the-set pix and part of a message from a lucky fan cast as an extra on the new "Serenity" set you can visit the Adrenaline Vault Forums. It's got some messages from Adam Baldwin and Nathan Fillion and the links to the Prospero forums that those all came from.
I caught the series on DVD a few months back and I was hooked. I can't wait for the movie in the spring. Woohoo!!
The release date for "Serenity" has been moved from April 22 to September 30, 2005. Darn.

Josh, you brat! I just now found out about this on another forums and was gonna mention it here! That's it! No cookie for you!
D at MN...
I was a bit miffed at first hearing that (especially considering that April 22 is my birthday), but then that date is a bit too close to the release date of Revenge of the Sith.
Awwwwwwwww. But I want it.
*pouts*
The delay of the theatrical release just means that the DVD release will be delayed as well! Stupid studio heads! I just hope that Josh makes it at least a 2-disc set with tons and tons of extras, not just one or two audio commentaries and a minute-long blooper reel or a piddly little making-of featurette. I'm tired of some director's or whomever being so lazy about that kinda thing.
Read the article. It's improtant that Serenity do well, and it won't if it has Revenge of the Sith following it shortly. This was not a purely arbitrary decision.
I just hope that Josh
Joss.

Feel the love.
Looks awesome.
Beauty. Pure beauty.
Firefly has been picked up by the SciFi Channel.
Or more to the point, SciFi will air reruns of Firefly. "Picked up" has a connotation implying that there will be new episodes, which is not the case.
This isn't meant to be a pick at you, ScottN, as I've been reading all over the internet how Firefly has been "picked up", when it really hasn't in the normal sense of the terminology.
Perhaps after the film comes out someone will come out with new eps.
I dunno how long it's been up already but I just found out tonight about Summer Glau's new website. Has anyone else seen it?

Unlikely. Joss closed his TV production company, Mutant Enemy. If anything, Serenity doing well at the box office would likely lead to theatrical sequels, not a return of the TV series.
I was at Dragon*Con here in Atlanta this year and the Firefly/Serenity panal was the biggest one I sat in on, must have been 2,000 people in the audience.
My sister-in-law just thrust the DVD box set at me and insisted I watch it. Is this the one that the recent movie was based on? Didn't see that either. And why do I keep confusing this one with Farscape (of which I only saw one ep)?
So... is it worth watching?
Yes Serenity is based on Firefly. However, I'd advise you to avoid it, as IMO it is to Firefly what Legend of the Rangers is to Babylon 5.
The only resemblance between Firefly and Farscape I can see is that the protagonists are generally on the wrong side of the law. Farscape has wild, crazy technology, lots and lots of aliens, and is star spanning in scope. Firefly is comparatively low tech, has no aliens, and is confined to one star system.
I, on the other hand, recommend Serenity. I thought it was great.
To each their own.
Another series that is similar in theme to Firefly is Cowboy Bebop. It follows the misadventures of a trio of bounty hunters and a hacker on the ship Bebop. They struggle to keep their finances in the black as they regularly fail to catch their targets. Though the series is anime, you should try it even if you dislike anime. The character designs are fairly atypical of anime (i.e., most of them have normal-sized eyes) and cartoony distortion is quite rare. There was also a theater release movie for Cowboy Bebop. IMO everything that Serenity did wrong, Knockin' on Heaven's Door did right.
Can someone kindly execute board spammers?
Re:Last Comment
I now have a ridiclous mental image of a tied up spammer, River Tam & a large screen T.V about to play the "Fruity, Oaty" Bar ad....
Sounds like a good idea to me, Mark!
If anyone can think of a new topic thread here that's appropriate, feel free to add one!
For those who missed it: On the recent Halloween episode of Nathan Fillion's show "Castle", his character dressed (briefly) as Mal!
Yeah, that was funny. I mentioned it on Nathan Fillion's page.
MERAT!!! Where've you been?! I've not seen you for ages! You OK?
A 7-foot, 135 pound Serenity made up of 70,000 Legos!
It includes the shuttles, detailed cockpit, and the kitchen!
Ooh, want! *grabby hands*
