Season One

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: The Lone Gunmen: Season One

By Adam Bomb on Saturday, March 24, 2001 - 1:12 pm:

Will this show go for a second season? I heard the future of "X-Files" depends on how Fox handles this show. I think that Roseanne (Barr Pentland Arnold Thomas) tried to blackmail ABC once with holding back her show if her husband at the time (Tom Arnold's) "Jackie Thomas Show" wasn't renewed. ABC did not cave, "Roseanne" continued through '97, and "Jackie Thomas" bit the dust.

By Adam Bomb on Saturday, March 31, 2001 - 10:59 am:

Was this series delayed a year? I first heard about a "Lone Gunmen" spinoff around Jan. or Feb. 2000.

By Brian Fitzgerald on Saturday, March 31, 2001 - 11:44 pm:

No that's probably when they started talking about it. Shows that premire Jan/Feb are given the greenlight in summer/fall of the previous year. Meaning:
Jan 2000: The X-files guys start talking about the posibility of doing a Lone Gunmen show and some outsiders get word of it and tell the fans about it.

Summer 2000: Fox gives them the greenlight

Feb 2001: the first ep airs.

March 2001: Moves to the famous friday night death slot, the begining of the end....

By Moleculo, The Molecular Man on Sunday, April 01, 2001 - 12:37 pm:

Re: The Death Slot

I wonder about the death slot. It seems that the only show that ever made it there is The X-Files. But the question is how? Did it's quality just over come the suckiness of the time slot? Has there been some kind of fundamental change just snapped and killed the slot?

The only thing worse than the Friday Death spot is in my opinion the 7pm Sunday slot which Futurama is rotting away in, well at least when it isn't preempted. But that's a discussion for another board.

By Lee Jamilkowski (Ljamilkowski) on Sunday, April 01, 2001 - 2:03 pm:

According to the offical Lone Gunmen website, the April episodes and airdates are:

April 6: "Planet of the Frohikes (or, a Short History of My Demeaning Captivity)"

April 13: "Maximum Byers"

April 20: (still untitled)

April 27: "Tango de Los Pistoleros"

By Brian Fitzgerald on Monday, April 02, 2001 - 12:22 am:

If Fox had the ratings expectations that they have today The X-Files would have been cancled during season 1. But because fox's ratings were so low in general the show's ratings did not seem so bad. In late season 2 and early season 3 was when word of mouth started getting around about the show, but even than the ratings did not really start getting into "Hit" terratory until it was moved to Sunday.
The reason is because many young folks are not home on Friday night. The only shows that ever do well on Friday are shows for older people (Nash Bridges, CSI) or kids (the old TGIF lineup)

By Moleculo, The Molecular Man on Monday, April 02, 2001 - 1:09 pm:

True Brian.

I know that on Friday nights TV in the next to last thing on my mind. But I do hold fond memories of the fun/pain of TGIF (oh Urkiel) and watching The X-Files back then.

By Lee Jamilkowski (Ljamilkowski) on Friday, April 06, 2001 - 10:29 pm:

The April 20th episode, according to TV Guide Online, is titled "Diagnosis: Jimmy". In it, the Gunmen track a poacher through a snowy forest, only to have Jimmy become injured and delirious. He starts to believe the poacher is someone from America's Most Wanted.

By Mike on Saturday, April 07, 2001 - 4:16 pm:

Think they will spoof Diagnosis: Murder?

By MikeC on Saturday, April 07, 2001 - 6:00 pm:

Well, the show IS doing better than Mr. Carter's last effort...not too hard that.

BTW: I was reading an article about Chris Carter, and it said that "his last two shows were bombs." How soon we forget that while "Millennium" was nowhere near as popular as "The X-Files," it ran a respectable three or four years...without making much sense, mind you, but still...

By Maagic on Saturday, April 07, 2001 - 9:13 pm:

Maybe "Diagnosis: Mulder"? :)

By Lee Jamilkowski (Ljamilkowski) on Sunday, April 08, 2001 - 8:56 pm:

Oops. My dad. I should have said, more accuartely, that "He [Jimmy] starts to believe his doctor is a killer who was profiled on America's Most Wanted.

By Lee Jamilkowski (Ljamilkowski) on Monday, April 09, 2001 - 8:46 am:

I should actually double-check before posting. I meant, "Oops. My bad," not "Oops. My dad." I just got a call from my parents... there's a reason I typed that. :)

By ScottN on Monday, April 09, 2001 - 1:14 pm:

Well, Lee, your dad *could* believe that...

By Lee Jamilkowski (Ljamilkowski) on Tuesday, April 10, 2001 - 1:13 am:

I just read an interview with the stars of The Lone Gunmen at http://www.eonline.com/Celebs/Star/LoneGunmen/ask1.html. They say that the ninth episode features Mitch Pileggi as FBI AD Walter Skinner. They also say a special guest star appears in the twelth episode but the ydon't say who. Both answers come from the question "Will any cast members from The X-Files be guest starring on your show?"

They also say not to look for Suzanne Modeski anyime soon because they feel her chracter was finished with in Three of a Kind.

By Maagic on Friday, April 13, 2001 - 6:57 am:

Well *I* read on Dark Horizons (http://www.darkhorizons.com" that David Duchovny just finished filming a Lone Gunmen episode... which may end up being a series finale since "chances are grim that it'll be renewed"

By MikeC on Friday, April 13, 2001 - 3:12 pm:

Y'know, Fox could at the very least keep producing new episodes, and just show them during the summer or to plug up Friday schedules with something better than "ANIMALS WITH BIG TEETH!"

By Brian Webber on Saturday, April 14, 2001 - 1:15 am:

I'm waiting for Det. Munch to show up. :)

By Det. Munch on Saturday, April 14, 2001 - 1:57 am:

I will if they ask me.

Ohh! Is McKean going to play Morris Fletcher again (hope hope hope hope hope)

By Lee Jamilkowski (Ljamilkowski) on Friday, April 27, 2001 - 5:24 pm:

From the rumors I've heard, McKean WILL be Morris Fletcher again. I just love that guy. What is it with him always running into the Gunmen?

By Josh M on Friday, April 27, 2001 - 11:49 pm:

Yeah, he's only been on three times and the Gunmen have run in with him twice. That's as much as Scully has, and we all know what he thought of her.

By Brian Webber on Sunday, May 06, 2001 - 4:12 pm:

I like watching this on Firdays. It rmeinds me of those two or three years where I'd watch the X-File on Ch. 13, then switch over to channel 9 for Homicide. Now, I watch Lone Gunmen on 13, and siwtch to 9 for law & Order SVU. Ah, memeories.

By Maagic on Thursday, May 17, 2001 - 8:12 pm:

Well c-r-a-p... according to FOX they will not be
renewing "The Lone Gunmen" for a second season.

By Anonymous on Friday, May 18, 2001 - 8:39 am:

Come on! Isn't anybody get start a campaign to at least get it picked up by FX? Get to it, people!

By Chris Booton (Cbooton) on Friday, May 18, 2001 - 10:18 am:

I know, what a bloddy crock. They keep shows like Temptation Island and Malcom in the middle but dump the lone gunmen. Really makes me wonder whats going on in the Fox exec's Brains (or is that a contradiction of terms?)

By SomeDude on Friday, June 01, 2001 - 8:53 pm:

*Quoting A Simpsons Ep*
*Marge* "Thank God We Didn't Become Mindless Zombies..."
*TV* "You Are Watching Fox..."
*Simpson Family, Zombie-Like And In Unison* "We Are Watching Fox..."

By Xena, WP on Friday, August 03, 2001 - 12:13 pm:

They CANCELLED it!!! Shtoopid Fox people!!! I enjoyed it!! But I kinda figured it wouldn't last when they put it at 9:00 on Fridays. (sighs)

By Lee Jamilkowski (Ljamilkowski) on Sunday, February 17, 2002 - 9:37 am:

The following information can be found at http://www.thexfiles.com/news/index.htm

Quote:

Wondering what happened after the final episode of The Lone Gunmen series? Answers are coming in 9X15. When Morris Fletcher returns to haunt the Gunmen, the three amigos go searching for Yves Harlow's hidden background -- with a little help from their old pal, Jimmy.

Vince Gilligan, John Shiban and Frank Spotnitz join forces on the script for "Jump the Shark," directed by Cliff Bole. Michael McKean, Zuleikha Robinson and Stephen Snedden all guest star in the show that airs in April.

By Josh M on Thursday, July 03, 2003 - 2:47 pm:

I wish Sci-Fi would rerun the 13 eps of this series. Or someone would release the episodes on DVD or something. Maybe they will. Since they're realeasing all nine seasons of the X-Files on DVD, the Lone Gunmen eps would help explain the Jump the Shark episode from Season 9.
